Multi-platform games that were unique or notable on Xbox?

I've been casually collecting OG Xbox games as I see them, but I have not picked up anything that isn't exclusive (or PC/Xbox exclusive) to the console. I'm enjoying the abudance of Xbox games and the more reasonable prices (compared to older consoles), though honestly I'm doing a lot more collecting than playing.

What I'm wondering is, are there any games that were also on Gamecube or PS2, or both, that are especailly unique or notable on the Xbox that I should look into picking up?

  • I remember the Grand Theft Auto Collection with III, Vice City & San Andreas looking better on Xbox. There was nifty water splash affects on the screen and erything!
  • Most of the time, Xbox games look/run better afaik compared to ps2. But I've noticed a lot of multiplayer games that are local for ps2 were online only for Xbox. Burnout 3 and Darkwatch for example
  • Tony Hawk 2x, Metal Gear Solid 2 Subsistence, Soul Calibur 2
  • There is a small list of XBox multi-platform games that could run at 720p or 1080i on the XBox.

    Some examples:

    Soul Calibur 2

    Scarface

    Atari Anthology

    Namco Museum

    Crash Nitro Racing
  • Silent hill 2, fatal frame, yakuza missions all have additional stuff and/or better than ps2 conterpart. At end of day ps2 has a ton of games with extras its competitors.
  • Capcom Vs SNK 2 has online play exclusive to Xbox, pretty notable for the time as a pioneer console fighter to do so.

Greatest hits PS2 Silent Hill 2 has all the same stuff.

  • NFL 2K5 (and many others I'd suspect) made use of music on your hard drive, you could import music for your touchdown dance and such. I remember my guy used to celebrate to the end part of "Eminem - My Name Is"
  • Genma Onimusha has a bunch of extras, improved graphics, and 5.1 sound. Too bad the sequels didn't get the same treatment.

Also, BMX XXX is uncensored on xbox unlike PS2 (and maybe gamecube?) if you want some polygon bewbs.

BMX XXX is also uncensored on the GameCube oddly enough.

  • One thing I thought was interesting, Tony Hawk's Underground has a mission in the Manhattan level with a missing ramp. It made the mission incredibly easier. Not to mention, it looks incredible compared to it's counterparts.
  • The tony hawk xbox games have custom soundtracks. same with the GTA games. That makes them unique. But you can only rip music cd's, not mp3 cd's or usb drives.
  • The most notable thing about XBOX multi-plats is that they had the tendency to look better and often times run smoother (better framerates). Some games supported higher resolutions than their counterparts, like Enter the Matrix that supports 720p and 1080i. Sometimes you also had faster load times. As someone else mentioned, custom soundtracks were an option in some games as well (the Tony Hawks and GTA for instance).

There are some that were ironically worse on the original XBOX (XGRA is one), but those tend to be the exception to the rule.

I can't think of any special additions asides from those to XBOX versions of multi-platform games. I think Burnout 2 might have extra tracks or cars or something (It's labeled "The Director's Cut"), but I'm not sure.

Yeah, and IIRC the graphics were improved for that version alone. Probably the definitive example of a GH version outshining the prior black label releases.
