We are always talking about game prices spiking or jumping. Are there any that spiked and then took a dump and is much less now? I don't know any off the top of my head. But I dont follow that closely.
I can think of one. Battlefront 2 for Xbox. It was around 40 CIB last year, spiked at around 60 or 70 CIB when the Star Wars movie and the new Battlefront released in fall of 2015, and now I think its down to 30 CIB.
I picked this game up recently. I noticed the price was not as high as I once remeber it, and I had been seeing more of them. But I sure it will slowly creep back up, so now is a good time to buy if its something you (anyone) might be after.
I remember when Splatterhouse 2 and 3 dropped as the new title came out a few years back. Look at them now tough, splatterhouse 2 is pushing damn near 200.
As far as non-remake drops, Battle zone on N64 has fallen pretty harshly from peak.
Xenoblade Chronicles for the wii is a perfect example of this. It was up over $100 at one point, and then once the 3DS version got released and Xenoblade Chronicles X for the Wii U came out, it crashed and burned to the ~$40 it goes for now. That's a pretty big hit if you ask me. Pikmin 3 also experienced this. It was around $70 or slightly higher at one point, then when the Nintendo selects version came out, it plummeted to the ~$20 it's going for now.
Not that these are games, but the Marth and Villager amiibos dropped dramatically in value once they were reprinted. Marth was going for over $100, and Villager was going for $150. Now you can get them each for pretty much retail value. Well, the original Villager is still around $40, but that's still a big hit from it's heyday.
Tank! Tank! Tank! dropped from $60-$100 to much less due to false rarity/reprint. Ocarina of Time 3DS was selling quite high for a while until the Canadian version re-flooded the market. Pikmin 3 has dropped since selects version came out. Devil's Third for false rarity/hype. Cubic Ninja due to it being able to hack a 3DS or whatever.
Regarding Xenoblade: the thing that really did a number on its value was the influx of "Asian Edition" copies that work on NTSC consoles. This is also the reason why Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Kid Icarus Uprising fell down to earth, among others.
Another game that fell from its former heights is Solitaire FunPak for the Game Boy. It went from being one of the pricier titles on the system (easily $30+ for just the cart, back in the late 2000s) to being readily available for $5 or less shipped.
I remember when Splatterhouse 2 and 3 dropped as the new title came out a few years back. Look at them now tough, splatterhouse 2 is pushing damn near 200.
Anyone want to sell me a copy for $100??? You probably bought it for $5 and make 20x your money back. It's a great deal! You're going to get twice as much as what they will be worth in a week or so.... better do it now before it's too late. PM me.
duck dodgers is due for a big crash. same with super bowling.
on an unrelated note i have a copy of super bowling for sale/trade. lol
not really crashes tho, just corrections. you tube makes things spike occasionally.
Duck Dodgers I can see coming down some, however I don't think Super Bowling will drop. Flatten for sure, it went up in price fast, however this title was long overdue to rise in price in comparison to other uncommon rare titles. Cart only was floating at $25-$30 for a long time before it spiked.

?? tank tank tank was 30-35 on ebay before the reprint. Found 1 at the peak of its demand for 25 at gamestop a month or so before the reprint.
I don't know about prices but Chase The Chuck Wagon is a perfect example of a game that was the "holy grail" and now you get get them for $60. I remember thinking Quadrun was one of "the" games to have back in the day too, and apparently it's down to $60 too. Wasn't Quadrun close to $1000? I bet there are a lot of Atari examples.
Little Samson and Flintstones 2 owners take note You know those games aren't holy grail rare either!

There were a couple on ebay.ca that sold around $80 CAD

no xenoblade chronicles fell because gamestop reprinted it and its in every store still. It was 40 long before the wii u game came out. and was already sub 50-60 when the 3ds game came out.

how much USD was 80 CAD at the time? I never saw it that demanded here. It was 30-40 US online. I was hesitant to buy it for 25 even then but did because I didnt think they would reprint it.

Difference is , atari games arent fun and nintendo games are more desired. No one said they are holy grail rare. They are highly desired. If there were tons out there to over supply demand then they would drop in price. Dont see any drastic fall like the atari examples. Its just different.
Daikatana a couple years ago when everyone thought it was rarer that in was, and before they realized the game is awful.
A few games that have gotten their jumps from YouTube reviews have dropped back down a bit after the hype subsides. Sky Kid, Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu and Krazy Kreatures for example.
Not quite so severe as most but I feel like the original Legend of Zelda was at or above the $30 mark just a couple of years ago, whereas Pricecharting shows a lot of copies selling for just slightly over $20. Makes sense that this one couldn't stay high for too long given how common it is.

I remember when 3 was announced they jacked up in price, and I think they've cooled off a bit.

holy shit when did that happen?
I think... it'll drop to.... $50.

Both of those were in the $70+ range (I sold MvC2 for $90 back in 2008)
Granted, MvC 2 isn't really cheap now either. FF VII is what, like $20 now?
The original Sniper Elite on the OG XBox was highly desired and is not crap.
Marko on the Genesis was a bump and a tank in price.
