Small music glitch I found in Super Mario Bros 2

I don't know if this is known or not, but it's the first time I see it. Details in the description.

"I couldn't record the moment it happened, because I was just playing. I'll try to capture it later. I just grabbed a starman and entered a door to the Sub-space, and got out of the door just before the starman effects were fading. The music from the Sub-space kept going and didn´t stop in the normal world."

  • Yes, this is the exact bug I entered the thread to post. I triggered it as a child in the 80s. Have you seen 2 Mousers?

Is this the same as the respawning boss glitch?

    Yes, Mouser is a boss.

  • Yeah I know. Is this when you defeat a boss but it glitches and the door doesn't show, then you wander around and the boss is back. Or are you implying you fought two Mousers at once?
  • Yes, there can be 2 Mousers at once.
  • There are a couple other glitches in the shadow world. You can get a coin to spin on your head if you pull it out at the right moment as your time is about to expire. Can also get an item stuck on your head in the same manor.
  • I've totally done this once by accident as well. I tried my best to recreate it last summer during my playthrough of SMB2, but no luck.
  • I've done that music glitch too but I'm not sure exactly how it's done. Playing the remixed subspace music on the pause screen rocks
  • Definitely going to post the Mario 2-themed rap song 8BitGuerilla and I did in this thread once he's done messing with the dials and knobs.

Nice to see you're still around! Well, I could replicate it consistently, you just have to get out from the sub-space (I had to look for that term in the instruction manual, by the way), just before the starman effects are dissappearing... almost to the very end of it, if you just get out when it starts to fade it doesn't work.
  • We used to accidentally get this to happen and never really knew why it would.

Looking back, they really should have swapped the 1-1 & sub-space music, I think that was a mistake on their part not to open up the game from the get go with the familiar SMB1 music and then lead off into new pieces.
