I loved the first two gens of Pokemon, and then took a hiatus in gen III and IV. I've come back to the series at gen V and have been back ever since.
That is pretty much the "exact" thing that happened to me as well man however I did get Pearl and played it bit but wasn't really glued to it like I feel I should have been.
Ha! Same! I bought Pearl but never finished it for similar reasons. I never stopped playing the spin-off games, like Conquest and whatnot, but what really got me back into it was I re-playing Red and Blue with a friend.
