I'd lump another Sony-Imagesoft game into that category with Equinox as there's literally no other 16 bit game quite like it and it's always been a favorite of mine no one talks about.
Have you played LandStalker at least? Not exactly the same but if you like the isometric based platforming and puzzles they had much in common.
I am the proud winner of the cart+manual auction. Now if only a box could pop up =D Looking to finish up my Titus collection this fall, I only need Brainies, Prehistorik Man, Lamborghini American Challenge and Blues Brothers now.
Hah, nice man. I was really close to putting in a 120 bid. What was your max?

Almost put a bid on it myself. My max was gonna be $133.

Did Tim Folin do Landstalkers music?
Equinox being a puzzle heavy isometric platformer makes it such a unique game, and the etheral soundtrack (to me) just bumps it up to that next level. I remember getting it as a teenager and not liking it at first but taking the time to get into the game and being hooked and wanting to progress further to see the damn devilish traps the developers came up with for each sucessive room + dungeon, all the while digging the fade-in-and-out music.
It's a complete hidden gem for me as it's not an rpg, nor a puzzler, nor an platformer... but some weird hybrid of the 3.
What's amusing to kind of reflect on is that we are only talking carts here... if you get into paperwork (manuals/boxes/posters especially)... then there's a WHOLE bunch of SNES stuff that is simply impossible to find unless you get a sealed copy or buy one from another collector at a premium. 3 Ninjas, Aero Fighters and Buckaroo$ posters are such rarities that I've long ago given up on acquiring them. What's funny is I'm starting to see that there are a handful of other posters that are right there with those (fairly well known) ones that you simply never see pop up anywhere for sale. If you're cart only be glad you never went down the rabbit hole that is SNES paper.
So very true. On the plus side for the most part, newer "paper" collectors like myself never have to worry about what to do once we finish..as it will probably never happen lol.
God if you're just starting now the odds of ever getting an Aero Fighters, 3 Ninjas or Fun N'Games box + manual for anything remotely reasonable price-wise is next to zilch. I'd recommend anyone not in love with their $ to go cart only and actually finish instead of waxing romantic on ultra expensive pieces of cardboard that now predominantly reside in collectors' hands and will cost a fortune to pry loose.
And like I alluded to there are some under the radar posters that simply NEVER show up. Period. It's a real pain in the ass having a game cart/instructions/box and just missing the never-sold poster for some of these things.
The term hidden gem is grossly overused in my opinion. Most of these games were 'hidden' because they are not gems. Just because a game is playable doesn't make it a gem.
I also don't think it takes set collectors to drive prices up of these rare games. People are naturally drawn towards rarity. Set collector or not, a lot of people want what others can't have. Look at amiibos... When they were scarce the demand was through the roof and now that they're not people can't give the things away. I also think there are a good number of collectors/profiteers that simply snatch up these games to cash in down the road.

I feel the same way about Solstice. I swear it's the best soundtrack on the NES. So haunting.
Still reccommend LandStalker if you haven't played it.
And to add pegboy you are going against your own beliefs youve talked about in this thread. The numbers of competition carts to be released were 2000 for starfox and 2500 for dkc.
So how can dkc be a 9 and starfox an 8. That makes no sense based on what youve said already in this thread on how sheer sold numbers are the only thing we should go by if we have them.
And what are those numbers based on? I'm basing it on what is available online and from my personal experience of trying to acquire them. DK Comp is much harder, go talk to anyone that actually owns it.
Im basing it on production numbers which are known. DKC 2500 is listed on teh back of the box. Starfox comp was in 1500-2000 stores and its a concensus around teh web that it was produced at around the 2000 mark. So we pretty much know the production numbers and your just going to ignore them but in the case of like mario kart. You were about to rip up the whole database because it was the 4th highest selling game in the US on the system and it just had to be a 1. Seems pretty hypocritical.
You know why more starfox comps are on ebay. ITs because DKC is more desired. People hesitate to spend the 700 dollars on starfox.
and you are telling me all your 8s you listed are just as rare as a game that only had 2000 made?!?!?!
Your 8s
war 2410
shiens revenge,
super noahs ark 3d,
super copa
sink or swim
International Superstar soccer
metal marines
hurricanes
final fight guy
firestriker
casper
cannondale
Those above are just as rare as Starfox Super Weekened???
LMAO. wow. Dude cmon. If those games shot up to 500+ dollars youd see them online more too.
Number produced for the contest does not equate to number sold (and we have no idea how many were really produced for Star Fox, that's all just estimates). How do you know a bunch of the comp carts weren't destroyed after the contest?
You can believe whatever you want but I own all 3 carts and Star Fox was by far the easiest to acquire. DK Comp and MBR/SR were much harder to find and are sold far less often.
If you want to rate them all at a 9 thats fine, I don't have a big problem with that, but they certainly aren't a 10. MBR/SR is harder to get than either comp cart. And MACS and Moving Target Sim are on a whole different level than the comp carts.
I've seen a bunch of copies of the Star Fox Competition still direct from Nintendo that were dumped by the Seattle Goodwill on ebay or their website that were never sold to the public and also former employees with multiple copies. My Star Fox Competition cart came from a former employee with at least 3 copies that I saw. lol
I've never seen any Donkey Kong Competition carts sold like that
Not all crazy price spikes are permanent either. Sink or Swim had a few sales $150+ recently, but there were two auctions that ended Sunday well below that. (cart only $67, cart + manual $113) It remains to be seen which price level wins out, but at least when prices go up we generally get to see more of it become available on the market.
I almost sniped on the $113 one. Then cooler heads prevailed.
That $67 cart was poorly listed though and had an engraving on the front plastic. I remember a 6+ months ago some guy bought a CIB from snesfinder for $75 and then got buyer's remorse and auctioned it starting at 99 cents. I won it for the price I paid a few times for just for the manual. My max bid was $38 I think? lol

I think S.O.S. is the last remaining Titus game for me
Awesome. I don't mind to help update the database since I have access and can do it manually - but if there is another way to import the data in batch, that would obviously save a lot of time!
It's not been easy picking numbers on many titles because of the disparity between copies online vs. copies I've seen/owned in the past couple years.
There's quite a few titles I keep going back and forth on because of this. For instance I see Jimmy Houston regularly around here which makes me hesitant to put it in the upper echelon of rarity (7+).

It's at three 6s and three 7s. I don't think anyone is gaming the numbers by trying to use their votes to sway the final result, so unless someone else comes in with a vote it will be a 7
