  • that's actually an insane list of included games. All 3 marios, both zeldas, mega man 2 and more. If it's $50-$60, I might pick one up for the novelty of it!
  • Does it have a real cart slot? And I wonder how they pulled off the rights issues.

probably the bigger news out of this for current gen Wii/Wii U owners is that you can buy the controllers (for the low price of $10) and they work like a classic controller

  • This is.. I really haven't checked for April 1st this hard in ages. What a way to dip into the retro market! The list of games is really really solid too, and did you notice you can plug the controller straight into Wii/U remote and use it for the virtual console?

Too bad I, as most people here probably, have no real use for this.
  • what's odd is how they got Super C, but not the original Contra, other than that it's really a solid game lineup for $60 bucks! Take out....Gradius, Startropics and possibly PacMan and put in Contra, Castlevania 3 and my personal pick RC Pro AM (but a broader pick/favorite for others probably would be another black box title like Kung Fu) and it would be a near flawless lineup.

I didn't mention Tetris since, even though that's an auto include the rights being more expensive now probably keeps it from being added and keeping the system cost down.

    Still looking forward to it
  • This looks bad ass. I think it is going to work perfect for the office. I definitely will be getting one and an extra controller.
  • Pretty cool, I will have no choice but to buy it. Bummer it doesn't look to play carts as well, even if it did a rom dump, but I understand why they didn't do it. Having an official NES controller for the Wii/Wii U is pretty rad.

EDIT: Now that they're releasing a NES mini, is the NX going to be finally called "The NEW Nintendo Entertainment System?" A limited edition NES styled new console for lauch would make people lose their minds.
  • The game lineup is especially impressive. Castlevania, Mega Man 2, Ninja Gaiden, Super C - those are some of the very best third-party games around. Add those to some of Nintendo's own very best games and it's much more impressive than similar Sega/Atari machines. I'm very surprised not that they are putting one of these out, but that they went to the trouble and expense of getting those third-party rights. I would have expected Nintendo to put out just the black box games at first, then a couple other ones with later NES games. I think this will be a very hot item for Christmas this year!
  • holy fucking shit.
  • This looks pretty neat. I can think of several people I know who are interested in old NES stuff, but ditched their CRT's and have no interested in investing in old systems and upgrades. This would work great for them. Hell of a game lineup, too!

That, and woohoo for Nintendo acknowledging interest in the NES beyond VC games! If this does well, maybe we can see more retro stuff come out in the future.
  • Hopefully they do a snes one as well, love to have both in this mini format for the collection.
  • How long before someone hacks it?
  • This is actually kind of cool. I'll never use it because I have the original NES and plan on getting an AVS, but this is still pretty neat and I think I'll pick one up for my collection.
  • This is so cool. I'll take two. One to keep on display in that badass box and one to hook up and try out. Nintendo does the coolest things sometimes.
  • Too bad that it doesn't include Contra in addition to Super C. Still a great set of games for the price.
  • I know this will be good for a few friends. They want to play games on their TV but have no interest in retrons, etc. The controllers will be a nice touch for me as well.

At this point these small PCs are getting pretty powerful. Maybe we can get all the way through N64 with these little consoles.
  • So does this crash the price on these games? None are rare but have decent value due to playability.
  • We've come a long way baby, now were finally getting an official Polystation release.

  • Whoa man this is neat. While I don't really need it, I still want one. It's cute!
  • Hopefully it uses a better nes emulator than what the vc uses. I never liked how that played nes games.

Still pretty awesome of nintendo too release this.

That one was developed by Rare and appeared on Rare Replay. Probably couldn't get the rights.

  • I wonder if they'll release more mini consoles and retro stuff if this becomes successful. I can't wait to own one.
  • Yeah ill buy one, still prefer the regular one though.
  • SEGA is finally going to have competition in the "last minute Christmas gifts from Rite-Aid" market.
  • I have many carts and real systems but might still grab this because that game list is killer! I would buy it just to kirby's adventure and balloon fight again and again!
  • Some of the licensing for the included games is really surprising.

I'm also a bit surprised they didn't simply offer the console with 2 controllers and make that the only way to get them.

I'm sure lots of people want Wii compatible NES-style controllers, and would have bought the set just for them.
  • I just saw this on Facebook and couldn't tell if it was a joke.

I'm glad it's not! This is an insane list of games! I'm really excited to see how well they look and function.
  • Would be a great back up turnkey system to have in an office or maybe in the master bedroom, where the wife or girlfriend doesn't allow any consoles or stacks of games!
  • I patiently await for someone to crack this thing open and see what we can really do with it.
