Replacement Batteries for Pokemon G/S Carts

Hey guys! Forgive me if this is dumb/in the wrong area; looking to replace some batteries in Pokemon Gold and Silver carts. I can't seem to find anything but Ebay listings, which I'd like to avoid if possible. Is there anywhere else reliable to procure said batteries? Thanks!

  • You should be able to get those at electronics shops or a hobby store. They aren't an uncommon battery.
  • Or automotive stores

Is there a rating/size spec? I didn't realize they weren't a special battery. Thanks man!

  • CR2025 is what you want.
  • Thank you sir!
  • If you need any help let me know man I have replaced a lot of them in my day.

I will, sir! I've got the tools etc. A friend has several copies of each version with bad batteries, and I want to help him out. I get access to a copy for hooking him up

  • Usually the electronic stores in my area that have these batteries will also have versions with the same metal connectors as in gameboy games. Not sure about stores in other states, but definitely looks more professional than electrical tape, especially if you end up replacing the battery for a Pokemon Crystal where you'll see the tape through the case.
  • You should always solder them back in place if you aren't using the ones the tabs. Tape is a pretty half ass way to do it.

Exactly what I think, but everyone who's sold me a game they said they replaced the battery has ALWAYS just used electrical tape to attatch a new one. Really anoying to have to buy the new battery, but I can't stand thinking the save could be lost because someone didn't want to do it properly.

    So yeah, always use solder.

100% planned on soldering, dudes! I dug out my iron last night. My background and experience in electronics wouldn't allow me to "tape" or "wedge" anything in there. Do it right!
  • People tape it? hahahahaha!

That is one way to lose your saves.

Dude, it's way more common than you think lol. Soldering is easy and more secure. Tape is a joke.

I've seen tutorials online telling you to tape it too. It's ridiculous

Doesn't even make any sense hahahahaha!

You can get a nice little soldering iron and solder for under $20.... doesn't take much to learn how to solder either I learned when I was in public school because I had to fix my guitar.....

The jack kept twisting and breaking the damn wires off that go to the pickups.

  • I always tape mine. I don't like seeing the tape through clear cartridges, but I've never had any problems.
  • Soldering to a battery is a bad idea. Buy a proper replacement and do it right.
