You might get a dollar for it.
Haha no...I bought a CIB with poster. Still not too desireable but worth a bit. I'll still lose money though but unless I get into this I just can't see myself wanting to play again after this week.
If you want to sell it,I'll buy it. I like this game.
Maybe this is one of those games that starts rough and improves as you get more upgrades.
The level difficulties are off. The water level should be first as it is WAY easier than the air level. Actually I think the air stage may be the hardest of the elemental stages due to the damn eagles that are hard to avoid and the tornadoes that push you around. The yellow cloud guys suck too.
The worst are the tiny demons. They more often than not will instantly kill you. If they touch your head, you can pretty much kiss that life goodbye.
The graphics and music are pretty decent. Unfortunately the combat and platforming aspects are garbage. Oh well, you can't win them all.
RARE would go on to better things.
The air stage should definitely not have been the first one. The good news is once you get past it,no more bouncing platform cloud thingies. The platforming becomes a lot better. The combat aspect of it does get better as well but not as much as it should. Getting the diamond sword in the forest stage helps out tremendously.

The game really needed a more satisfying and effective main attack. Jumping at enemies hoping to kill them or standing there shaking your sword is kind of lame. It also doesn't help that the game begins with a frustrating climbing section while you're being pelted with a bunch of cheap hits.
So, don your furry bikini underwear, ditch the shirt, slather on lots of body grease, grab your big sword, and let your long, majestic hair flow in the wind. Damn, you guys would be making Fabio proud of you right now. Or maybe even jealous.

The air stage definitely shouldn't have been first as it can definitely give many players a bad first impression. Probably should've gone water, fire, earth, wind although the earth stage has more hard hitting enemies.
(with helmet, right before the Wind Power weapon chest (though without key...))
When we played the first one last time around, my main thought was "wow, 700+ games in the library... why this one?". That thought came rushing back immediately. The thing about these games is that you can tell there's something great here, it's just a matter of the steep learning curve and learning to accept the flawed attack mechanisms.
The special wind attack really helps, and hopefully getting the sword later on will help as well (at least at the surface, it feels like Frankenstein: The Monster Returns, whereas until you get that sword, the game feels unfair...)
After a quick sample run I know I can get to the clouds easily enough, so at least I can count on participation Beyond that, though, not incredibly optimistic.
I don't even know what to do, this game makes no sense, swinging your sword does nothing, and birds
To get your participation points, you have to get the giant egg that is on a platform on the far right. You have to drop down to it from above. And then go to the far left and keep climbing up platforms until you reach the bird who flies you to the cloud area. Then pause during the death animation when you lose your last life and take a picture.
For everyone not too familiar with this game,I recommend the following: Learn the key places you need to go to and avoid rather than kill enemies. Even before it was low score,I still avoided killing most enemies. It's easier to just avoid them. (usually)
This game reminds me a lot of Simon's Quest in the fact that once you figure out where you need to go the game is actually really short.

You can also use the Familiar spell and it will grab the egg and return it to you.

Cool. I had no idea what that spell does.
I don't get that spell as it gives the eagles more time to assault you. When you get to the cloud section, don't forget about the 1up that is near the top left of that area. The "hole in the cloud" above it is also where the windbane spell is that you will need to defeat the wind boss.
Pretty much everything important is at the top of the playfield in the cloud area. The far left cloud hole is where the windbane spell is,the middle two holes lead to the same area that has a chest with a helmet in it and there is food there too. The far right hole is where the boss is.
I was too "busy" (EVO 2016!!!) yesterday to give this game a try.
I am not even sure I actually have it in cart form. I should because Fabio *swoon* cover, but still, it has been a while since I last did inventory on my games.
I will check it tonight, but I will probably not post an score till Wednesday. I have to get Paperboy 2 out of the way first.
Just took this game down! I didn't go all out point shaving as I wanted the diamond sword and have extra money just in case I needed a key or something else useful so this score is definitely beatable.
Honestly I thought this game would get a better reception than it has. I figured I wouldn't be the only one who likes this game. I played this a ton back in the day and it still has one of the coolest final boss battles!
I got to admit I'm in the same boat as you guts, have always loved this game since childhood, and still play it almost every year and still love it just as much. I get that the controls are a bit strange at first and that you expect a knight to be more handy with his sword, but once you get the hang out of it the feeling of the gameplay is great. I also agree about the final battle, very cool, and quite challenging too, especially the first few times you get there. I bet anybody that reach the end for the first time will get their ass whooped by those elements heads, lol.

I played this a lot as a kid, even beat it at some point. I like to think I'll do decent this week, but I remember dying a LOT before, so who knows.

The combat in this game isn't very good. I discovered that you can kill things with your sword by jumping at them.

I'm just going to get my usual bitching out of the way:
This game is hard, I suck at it, and I don't get it
It's late Monday afternoon and two people have posted scores.
This game is making me wonder if I've sorely underrated NES Ghosts n Goblins. It doesn't seem so bad anymore.

I don't have a copy of Wizards & Warriors II with the Fabio cover!
Time to start hunting for a CIB copy!
