  • Haha, that's not unplayable, I beat that game when I was not even 10 years old, IIRC (I might not remember correctly though). Also, it took you weeks to beat Battletoads, and I'm pretty sure that if you spend equal amount of time on W&W2 you would beat it as well, probably quicker than Battletoads.
  • Well, you two aren't alone in liking this. Youtuber Austin whose opinion I respect has it among his top 10 favorite NES games.

    He streamed some gameplay.

Yeah, but Battletoads is fun, haha. I still play it almost every day because it's so much fun.

Playing Ironsword is like getting root canal work done.

  • Very interesting, I might check that out.

It is really strange to me cause I always loved W&W 1-2 since childhood (a little later W&W 3 as well) and always thought that they were generally appreciated games. I found out it wasn't the case when I joined this site and realized that the games weren't mentioned much and more often than not it was an ignored trilogy, which is kind of odd when you have 2 sequels on the same console.

No joking, I'm sure that if you give in enough efforts to get ahold of the game you will love it at some point. The music will help in the process as well.

  • I played this quite a bit as a kid as well, beat it even...after continuing several times I believe, but playing it now just makes me want to not play it anymore. I didn't get much play on the 3rd, but did play the gameboy game quite a bit too. I think I just don't have the patience anymore.
  • Stage 1 - Boss

  • Tuesday morning and three score submissions. Yikes.

This may have overtaken Baseball as least popular contest game.
  • I'll try to submit a participation pic today at least. I think it's safe to say Guts has this one in the bag, unless someone else is hiding out and waiting til the last minute.
  • Just like Bert I have played this lots growing up and even beat it as a kid, but now I have really no idea how to effectively play Ironsword.

I'm going to guess I'll make it to Level 2 this week.
  • Fapio has the ironsword for sure, he can take me for a plane ride AANNNYYY time.

Well you never know, there are a lot of great players who compete. I've always loved the Wizards & Warriors games.

As far as this game, you have to play it a little different. My advice is to play it pacifist and semi-speed run style. Just avoid everything you can,get what you need and go. The level layouts are not super difficult, but can be tough to traverse at first.

I could probably write a guide for this pretty quick.

I've beaten it a few times as a kid, and just playing the first level I could sort of feel a lot of it coming back to me. That said, even when I did beat it, I died a buttload of times. So, just good enough to complete the game, but not enough to really compete.

I only tried it once and died in the clouds.  More interested in finishing Lufia 2 right now

I looked up speed running videos and the game can be beaten in under 15 minutes.
  • Rdrunner's 13 minute run.

In junior high,I was over at my best friend's house playing this game. I had gotten to the final battle and was going to show off to his brother by beating the game. (I had beaten it before.) I played and played it and couldnot freaking beat it. Eventually his brother just got tired of waiting and walked off. T_T
  • That is one sad story.

I still can't believe I don't have the physical copy of this game, because Fabio cover...

Still, I will give it a nice try tonight and post a score.

My run was a touch over 30. I did take a bathroom break and got a snack,so it was a little under 30. The game is definitely short if you know where to go.

You forgot "I've never played this game before".

its no battletoads. I predict quite a few "game completed".

Oh, and for the record, I've never played this game before

    kobra kai!!!

Richard head, step up your game! Canuck is in striking distance!

  • Using the glitch to allow yourself to keep your magic power after each level is forbidden

Is this something you could easily do by mistake?

This game is not hard. It's not like super easy, but for anyone who beat (or got far into) Battletoads and Ghosts N Goblins this game should be a cakewalk once you get over the learning curve.

The game combines difficult platforming sections with unavoidable hits from respawning enemies and a useless attack. The first level cloud area is pure aggravation. I can't say that I understand this game's appeal at all.

And here I am, wondering when the two of you will stop bickering at each other like an old couple and kiss already.
