What do you think of the Nintendo 64DD?
What are your thoughts?
I still have the reviews from a stack of all magazines back in 1999, and remember watching a few a vids on Youtube a couple of months ago which covered a span of games. The games that stuck out to me were SimCity 64, the F-zero expansion, and Doshin the Giant and DTG 2. Doshin seems interesting but I'm not sure how different it is from the Gamecube game. I'm also not very sure if the expansion offered anything new to the GC version either, and in any case you would need a transation app or some kind of english reference text to actually play, which doesn't seem practical.
I just love all things on magnetic disk, wish there would more games for it. I'll always find it cool, it seems hard to justify getting one though at any point.
Not sure if it works directly on US NTSC unit, and I'm sure prices are quite high, even though some of games from time to time can be found a reasonable price if you are really lucky. I'm sure you've heard that a U.S prototype was found recently.
How many of you find it interesting and why? Would your ever add it to your collection?

Like of all the obscure stuff out there that'd be the one I'd want. Just a steep price and I'd probably only try the fzero expansion and doshin for playing. I dunno maybe one day
There are 10 disks.
Doshin the Giant
Doshin the Giant 2 (requires Doshin 1)
F-Zero X Expansion Kit (requires F-Zero X JPN cartridge)
Japan Pro Tour 64
Mario Artist: Paint Studio
Mario Artist: Talent Studio
Mario Artist: Polygon Studio
Mario Artist: Communication Kit (used with the studio titles)
Sim City 64
Randnet disk (not a game)
In fact, my most wanted N64 related item is the Randnet modem used to get the DD on the internet.
If I found one I would sell it to someone on here.
It's something I always wanted to own, just because I found it so interesting. I do use a Japanese N64, though I do have an American one somewhere that I've never tried with it.
The only games I don't have are Doshin 2 and Japan Pro Golf Tour, because they're absurdly expensive. Last time I looked (which was admittedly probably a year or so ago), they were like $450 each. The Mario Artist set is a pretty cool novelty in the vein of Mario Paint, while Sim City 64 and the F-Zero Expansion Kit are genuinely good games. I have also played Japan Pro Golf Tour (even though I don't own it) and that's also a very enjoyable golf game that I've put quite a few hours into.
Although I'm from the UK and therefore have easy access to the GC Doshin, I've never actually played it. I have tried it a little on the 64DD and it is rather difficult to get to grips with due to the language barrier, so I haven't really put any time into it.
I'm happy to answer any questions, though I'm not really sure how many there could be.

The Japanese and American N64 consoles are the same thing, they share identical motherboards.
The wait for my disks to arrive has been grueling, made worse by the fact I have my 64DD system here already... Kinda wish there was more to do with the IPL ROM built into the console.
