NARC - Your thoughts on the game?

While the arcade version seems cool, I'm just not that sure about the nes one . I'm trying to like the nes version, but the limited lives and ammo, drab colors and graphics, and having to find keys from different random enemies, seems to be making it a little hard to stay motivated when playing the game, at least right now. Still there is something appealing about it, the fact that it's still a port of great arcade game with all the violence, the 80's cheesiness makes it somewhat cool. I'm not crazy about the gameplay itself, but maybe its something I may personally come to enjoy with a little more practice, maybe not.

What do you think of NARC?

  • Stick with the arcade. I've played all the way through the NES version and it's awful.
  • I used to love the arcade games as a kid. Funny as kids playing a game about shooting drug dealers and picking up drugs lol.

I remember being pretty disappointed in the nes version but I have not played that version in a long time.

I usually get used to irritating games of this sort, at a much faster pace, and I'm finding this a bit annoying at least for now. I just think they should have added more lives at least. It just seems a bit silly. Oh well.

  • I'm not a big fan of NARC period but I've played both versions and I'm kinda meh on both.
  • I played this a lot when I was a kid. I thought it was awesome that you could blow up the background. I also liked that it was 2 player and had good GG codes.
  • I actually picked this up as an adult - as soon as I turned it on I went back to flashback mode of playing it at the arcade! I had no idea it was the same game.

Sadly like others have said - it's not nearly as good as the arcade version.
  • That's one of those games where the arcade version blows the NES version so far out of the water it's not even funny.
  • It was one of my earliest NES games and I enjoyed it for what it was. I always remember noticing as a kid that the instruction manual contained a pic of the beta title screen where the license plate reads "SAY NO OR DIE" like the arcade version.
  • The NES port came out in 1990. It should have been ported to the Sega Genesis.

Rare was backed by an unlimited budget from Nintendo at that time.

Well you did have a 16 bit amiga version that seems similar to the arcade, from that time not sure if the gameplay is the greatest. I was considering putting the nes version aside, just for the amiga version. Keep in mind the emulation takes away from the graphics check it out below :

When I was 10 or so me and my buddy played the shit out of it at his house and I never quite 2 and 2 together until you said that.  Nobody even cared either, if you did that today everyone in the country would have pitchforks out

  • The arcade I thought was kind of cool, but after the novelty of the violence and theme wore off,you realize it's just a clunky side scroller.

The nes game is terrible. They probably were on drugs when they made it.
  • Never played the arcade game. Picked up the NES cart at the suggestion of a buddy. Yeah, it's god awful. Nothing more to add.

    This.
  • I'm putting this game aside for now, will probably return later to finish it.
  • I don't remember ever playing the arcade game. NARC is another game I had as a kid, and played it quite a bit until I beat it. Never really thought of it as a bad game. I really enjoyed the bridge or highway or whatever where you can get in the car and run over the bad guys.
