New Retro City Rampage PS4 Retail Edition /3000

Hey everyone,

I'm launching pre-orders for a new Retro City Rampage PS4 retail edition on Friday at 10am PT. It's got brand new cover and new disc art, so collectors who own the original 2014 release can rest easy, knowing theirs still retains its holy grail status   It also now comes with a manual this time.

The first 3000 copies are also individually numbered and include a PSP retail display set + manual, a gold cover variant and digital copies. I was hoping to release a UMD version but the factory shut down before I could, so this PSP retail display set's the next best thing. I've released the PSP version now for free digitally, if you own the game on PS4/PS3/VITA (4X Cross Buy). This also makes it the last PSP release!

Thanks, everyone!

  • Killer artwork, man. Nice package there.
  • On my calendar! I was fortunate enough to get a Vita copy but can't pass this bad boy up
  • Glad to see it will be available to more people. That said, personally I don't like that the original release was touted as the "rarest PlayStation®4 game ever printed! Only 2,000 available, so pre-order yours before it's too late." if there was ever a chance you would release more. At least I can pick a copy up now though (I don't own it atm).
  • Thanks everyone. As far as the first release in 2014, there was no precedent. I was the first indie to self-fund and self-publish a console retail game, and manufacturing was all out of pocket. I wasn't sure how many would sell, or how quickly it would sell, and no one else did either. Some recommended printing half as many to make sure I didn't lose money. That sounds crazy to the hardcore collector community in hindsight, I'm sure, but it was a big unknown at the time. 2,000 were sold because that's all I hoped to sell at the time. It wasn't until scalpers went out of control and fans rallied for a reprint that I decided to make a compromise, with an alternate cover. More info at the link above.

I appreciate the explanation. To be fair, I get it and I'm glad that A.) it's available to more people B.) the money made on sales will go to you for new projects (assumingly) C.) and that you did change the artwork on the re-release. I'm not sure there was much else you could do and I'll likely be picking it up to go with my Vita copy

  • I was able to get a copy during your original sales run, but I'm happy that more people are going to have the opportunity to own and play the game. Thanks again for publishing RCR, and good luck with the upcoming sale!
  • Awesome, i might have to pick up this bad boy.

Super happy I bought 2 copies of the original release as well *evil reseller laugh* MUAHAHAHAHAHA
  • I know Nintendo has a higher threshold for what it requires for Physical print runs, but would absolutely love to see this released physically on 3DS. Not sure about the cost and logistics, but I'd think you could sell the minimum print run. Any thought ever given to a physical 3DS release?
  • Thanks everyone for understanding, even if you own the original PS4 release!

You're correct that Nintendo has a higher minimum quantity for print runs, but I'm eyeing a 3DS retail release for the upcoming Shakedown: Hawaii

That would be awesome.  Im sure youde get enough interest to justify the required numbers for both Ninty and yourself!

That would be nice! Would love a dual pack (even at a bit of premium)!

  • Would totally buy this for Wii U...

Quick question, is the manual inside the PS4 case or does this package come with a seperate free PSP manual? The wording on the website is a little confusing.

  • The PS4 manual's inside the factory sealed PS4 case, but the PSP manual is separate. Two manuals

Yea, I'd take one of those as well

  • I'm curious what the price point will be and also cheers!
  • I'm curious, are you only producing 3000, or is it the first 3000 that comes with the extras?

I ask because I'd love to pre-order but I'll be at work when it opens.
  • @Soma: The price point's $30

@SnowSauce: The gold variant with the bonus items will be limited to only 3000, but I'll leave the door open to produce more of the standard edition for the time being. I'm trying to figure out the optimal method of producing my own self-published print runs viably, while keeping as many fans as possible happy, so let's see how this works out
  • Nice, hopefully I can snag one in time this round.

    Awesome!

I'm going to assemble a PS4 collection, and I wanted to add this game for quite some time, so I'm pretty stoked to finally have an opportunity to add it.
  • Still can't get the original.

    Plenty on eBay

  • Awesome new art and what a killer package! I have the PS4 and Vita original releases, a copy each opened and sealed, and I will gladly be buying a couple of these guys too! Congrats on the new edition!
  • Def interested, so in an hour?
  • Just checked out! Yay for finally having a physical ps4 copy! Hazaa!
  • I went ahead and got 1, not being greedy with 2. I already played thru the game on PS3 digitally and wanted to support a physical release, thanks for doing this!
