Exclusive Famicom games that really need to be translated and re-released in English?

Recently picked up a bunch of famicom stuff, and was avoiding some of the games I was told are in Japanese. It made me wonder, what are some games that really need be released and translated somehow in english.  While i already know a bunch that have been, I'm sure there are tons out that really need to be.

I don't have any games in mind but was thinking, what games do you think really need to be re-released in english? Either digitally or cart.

Avoid mentioning ones that have been translated.

  • Looking at the list of translation requests over at romhacking.net, it looks like 100 games have not been translated to English yet. I have no idea if any of them are good. It looks like many of them had an English version, but the text was changed (or censored) in the US release.
  • Metal Slader Glory has one in progress, not finished yet.

It's actually over 300, probably close to 400:

There are a few errors and I find the formatting/field naming a bit confusing, but overall this is a good overview of what's out there.
  • I'm hoping the NES Mini will prompt Nintendo to make a Famicom follow-up full of exclusives like Devil World, Earthbound Beginnings, 3D Hot Rally, Super Mario Bros Lost Levels/For Super Players, and licensed stuff like Holy Diver, Mr. Gimmick, and Sweet Home. They released the Famicom-edition Game Boy Micro here, so I don't think it's too much of a stretch. Market it as "Nintendo classics you never got to play!"

Thanks for the link! Is this something you manage?

They also oddly released the ROB Famicom Colors Amiibo.

You're welcome! The list is managed by Spinner 8 over at ROMHacking.net. He also did up a list for the Super Famicom, which has a huuuuuge number of unlocalized games:

  • The Magical Taruruuto-Kun games are a lot of fun, and I'd like to see Wagyan Land 3 translated. Also, all the Gashapon Gundam games.

That being said, most of the really neat ones have been translated. I'd like to see more SFC games translated than FC games.

Maybe it's because I'm on mobile and maybe not getting the optimal view, but this just looks like a list of every game. I mean, Battletoads is listed.

Every Famicom game is included -- to make use of the list, you have to sort it by one of the categories. The easiest way is to sort by column H, "Untranslated?", and look at all the entries that say "Yes".

(However, the person who made the list chose to label games released in English on other platforms as translated games, which I don't agree with.)
  • I have this app called pixter that i think can translate bits and pieces of japanese text. It would be tiring to use for games though.
