Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness

Basically I've had this game for a few years now and oddly its never caught my eye until recently. I was almost looking into selling it until I watched a few videos on it and decided to give it a try. I havent made it far yet, but my first impressions are that it is a very strange concept. Capturing by means of stealing from trainers to release them from a seemingly evil hold. The battley systems not bad as it mocks the handhelds, but I still find it a bit strange.

Anyone else played this one yet? And if so what were your opinions?

Also, is there any capability to trade from this game to a handheld version or vise versa?

  • Pokemon Coliseum and Pokemon XD are both pretty good in my opinion. I think they're more of a standard RPG than the handheld are, and that's a good thing. Think of it less like stealing and more like recruiting party members from an opposing faction in another game. You CAN trade over Pokemon with a GC ->GBA link cable it was the only way to get Ho oh, Lugia, and Celebi in third gen I believe .
  • I need to give it a shot. I've heard it's pretty cool for what it is, and it's actually in pretty high demand around here.

It does have more of a standard RPG feel to it than the handhelds, makes me wonder why console versions didn't catch on earlier. And I thought Coliseum wad a mini-game and battling type game?

colosseum is pretty much the same type of thing, gale of darkness is a sequel. You're thinking of stadium and stadium 2 on n64

I thought the same thing. To be fair Colosseum and Stadium are synonyms. Assumed they were the same spin-off series.

yeah it's fair to assume. I rented it as a kid and was surprised to see it wasn't like stadium. But for someone who like RPGs and not Pokémon I think colosseum and gale of darkness would be a better place to start. There's some goofy characters and a better story, and it's not quite as long. It also deviates from the "beat 8 gym leaders, then beat the elite 4, and catch em all" formula that the entire series has done since forever. They're no Chrono Trigger but they may be worth at least looking into

That was my first assumption, I'll definitely have to look into them! Always been a fan of the Pokeman since as long as I can remember (not so much Pokemon Go though) but never knew about the RPG console versions. Seems pretty dope! I'm enjoying the characters artwork though, some people look wild haha!
