No, I'm talking about both, as was Estil. If you're not strictly going for the "licensed set" or "full set" or whathaveyou, you can collect repros as well. Plenty do. It's almost impossible to pin down a "full set" for them since they're constantly getting made, but it can still be fun to collect them and add them to your personal curated collection as games that "might have been."

In other words, buying repros is like buying PS4 games. There is no full set because "new" games are still being made. Nobody buys repros or PS4 games to own them all or work towards some sort of goal, people buy them to enjoy them. You don't have to be a collector to buy physical things if you just want to use them for their intended purpose.

Not that I disagree with what you said.

As I said, he does have a point. Financially speaking, it makes more sense to buy a flash cart. People can still do whatever they want though.

In this thread, I notice a whole lot more people complaining about pegboy than pegboy complaining about repros. He posted once, everyone could have just ignored him. Instead, everyone other than pegboy derailed this thread.

Yeah, in 'this thread', cause most of the peep that 'derailed' the thread are actually good at just glancing over his negative posts in 99 % of the threads he post in. It is normal and fair that once in a while, those thread take a turn about his attitude. You know, it is fun to have him around (no joke really) and it is just an informal check and balance procedure to keep him here.

And he didn't posted just once by the way.

I only posted more because people starting bitching and whining.

Well, I think that just because those currently lack a "full set" doesn't mean there can't be collectors. Sure, the majority probably obtain them to enjoy, and there's nothing wrong with that, but that doesn't preclude those who collect them for the sake of collecting. They just don't have an end goal (yet, for the case of a PS4 collector.)

You obviously haven't seen the other threads he's posted in. He posts the same opinion over and over, with the same abrasive tone. In this thread Arch correctly predicted his response. And now the mods have warned him, and they've been surprisingly patient with him. That tells you how often we've seen it from pegboy.

When he's called on his obnoxiousness, he gets defensive, saying people are attacking his opinion, when it has little or nothing to do with that.

Actually, you're wrong there. Period bootlegs and modern repros share one commonality, there is no end or consistency to them. Nobody collects period boots with the obsessiveness commonly seen around here.

In fact, I know lots of Famicom collectors who will buy anything bootleg, back in the day or modern repro. They don't seem to care, they just want the games. Apparently cartridge ports of FDS originals made by pirates (or repro people) are very popular.

He posted once, people started complaining again, he defended his opinion. He posted his actual opinion once.

He defended his opinion on repros, but that's not what people were complaining about.

  • He raises a good point that has resulted in bans in the past. NintendoAge has a collective habit of suffocating unpopular opinions. Sure, the staff are free to do so, doesn't mean it isn't shady.
  • I think it is pretty clear that nobody were actually against his opinion, and if you think that this was the problem raised than you're clearly missing the point.

I'm pretty sure all of you would be disappointed if I didn't post in a repro thread.

  • Why would we be disappointed? We know what you're going to post every time.
  • Then why is there so much interest in my posts? If no one gave a shit they would just ignore it.
  • Because you're told time and again why. This time by the mods. It's clear you have no intention of listening.
  • I got mine from OCDProductions, as you might have seen in my topic on here me annoucing my purchase.  They're doing a neat sale where you can get ten SNES games for $300 (provided they're the $45 ones, if you include any of the more expensive ones you gotta pay a few pennies more difference) and he's doing a 10% sale all summer.  So with both deals together I was able to get these for an even $300:

BS Zelda, Dragon Quest 1+2, Dragon Quest 3, Dragon Quest 5, Dragon Quest 6, Final Fantasy 5, MegaMan & Bass, Secret of Mana 2, Snoopy Concert (I was waiting for years for someone to offer this), Tales of Phantasa

And a little later I got a la carte (but still with 10% sale) Final Fantasy 2 and 3 for NES (the real FF2 and FF3, not the mislabeled SNES games that are really FF4 and FF6 respectively).

So yeah, I can't think of anyone better qualified

Plus he takes trade in donors so you can do what I did and grind some pawn shops and flea markets for cheap sport games and trade into it and other repros

Where in the world on their site does it mention their trade-in policy?

yeah I couldn't find it on there now either.

here's the link to his NintendoAge page (he's ocdgamer on here). Has trade in values listed at the top.

    Thanks!
  • I wish the mods would just delete everything that isn't relevant to the OP's original question. I forgot Chester Field and Dark Lord, great games.
  • I've already said Energy Breaker, but I'll add these that I've personally played and enjoyed:

    Treasure of the Rudras

Seiken Densetsu 3/Secret of Mana 2

    Tales of Phantasia

    Star Ocean

    Treasure Hunter G

    Terranigma

    (Yes, I love RPGs.)
  • Oh look, more anti-pegboy. At least this time it's about what he said. Hang in there peg, they like to gang up on me when they misread my shit too

Collecting repros is dumb, and a waste of money.

Dumb wastes of money can sometimes be fun.

I have translations of Ys gsmes on repros. Sometimes I regret getting them. But oh well. I've wasted money on worse things.

We're all in a video game collecting forum, so we're all doing stupid things unless you run it as a business, and even then, since games have such low profit vs other collecting items, we're all doing stupid things. It's just different degrees of stupid.

Now if you excuse me, I'm going to go back to cataloging my stuff. Gotta finish adding my new Hello Kitty Online game to game collector.

Then we'll be accused of censorship, along with smothering opinions, being pro VGA, being anti VGA, hating kittens, etc. etc.

Let's all get back on topic now.   (Oh, I forgot lock-happy too!)

  • Zombie Hunter is another one I forgot.

As Hank Williams Jr would say with a slight modification, if they don't like kitties, they can kiss our ass!

  • Here's an unboxing for the Firemen, a very good action game:

not sure if it was said but, ufouria is a great game! i just played it for the first time all the way through. its one of my new favorites!

its like metroid meets little sampson. four characters with certain rolls to make your way throught the platform map, with items you have to discover in order  to advance through the game and power up your players.

    "cute" animation but real fun!!!!

If you collected used tissues, I would just be happy you're doing what you enjoy. Would not "lol". But as said before, I'm a pretty positive person.

    happy tissues or sad tissues?

  • Do I want to know what those tissues were used for???
  • If you're going to collect a bunch of repros, it would make a few of us quite happy if you got them from someone who used all new parts, or at least kept the chips.

Edit: Also, check out the Ys IV and V translations
  • thanks for the tips so far guys...please suggest more! so far i picked up some from some n.a. guys...
