Found My First NOT FOR RESALE Game Today!!

I was browsing around a used bookstore today and came across some N64 carts for sale. I'm not really a N64 collector of any sorts, but I always look for good or rare games for trade bait, and I came across this little beauty:

I didn't really know about or look for Not For Resale carts until recently, and I thank NFS collectors here at NintendoAGE for giving me a heads up on these.

I'm not sure of it's value, as I haven't been able to find much on it, but feel free to put your two cents in on this if you have an opinion.

  • I'd guess $30? But I too am pretty unknowledgable about NFR carts.

I do know that aaronshea accidentally sold a NFR Mario 64 in a huge lot to someone who then complained because the Mario didn't work. Lol poor Aaron!
  • nice find and a laughed hard when I read the title of this thread
  • Dude...

Wow, that's a pretty solid find! How many of these are confirmed now? 2-3? i'd say you wouldn't have any problem getting $125+ for it. Amazing find dude!
  • WOW! Nice find! That is one of the hardest N64 NFR carts to find. It's worth about $100-$150.

Edit: I'd say there are at least 10 of these out there that are confirmed now.  There are 2 or 3 people on here who have or had one.  Plus I've seen at least 4 or 5 more on ebay at different times over the past couple years
  • I would say in the $100 range. Only a small handful have ever been found (about 5) though I'm sure many more are out there. I paid $200 for the one I used to have but I overpaid image
  • Amazing find dude. Congrats
  • And that shows how unknowledgable I am, lol. I'd defer to Burnambill on this as he had the complete set of N64 NFRs until he sold them all off right after Myriad image

Still jealous about him selling that DK Gray w/ the Letter image Could be a long time until I ever see one of those.
  • Thanks for the input everyone. It's been quite a while since I had a good find.

Anyone have any info on this game as compared the the normal version of Yoshi's Story?
  • As far as I know it's just a Japanese copy of the game with a NFR label stuck on the front. In fact you can probably see the original yellow Japanese label under the NFR sticker if you look closely.
  • I did happen to notice that; I was a little suspect at first.

Is the game text in Japanese (sorry, but I don't have an N64 to play it)?

Did you find that at McKay's on Charlotte?
  • Wow, great pickup there especially as your first NFR cart! I really hope to get that one one day, it's worth about 125 like some already said. If you don't mind, what bookstore did you get it at?
  • Paul, I did in fact find it at McKays on Charlotte Pike. Do you go there often?
  • not often enough apparently... actually it's quite a drive for me to get there, like 45 minutes to an hour... I live on the opposite side of town... whenever I'm near there I stop by... but i've only been 2 or 3 times in the last year.. Sorry I just had to ask, you said used bookstore and I immediately thought McKay's... it's a nice store... I love looking for games they've marked down..

    Excellent find..
  • A friend just recently turned me on to McKays and I go there almost every weekend now. They don't have much in the way of older games, but I really like their DVD and book selection.

Next time you will be in town, let me know, and maybe we can meet up.
  • WOW that one insane find, especially in the wild! I used to own this, but ended up selling it for $125 about 6 months ago.
  • How much do NFS carts generally go for? I saw some N64 NFS carts at a thrift store a couple days ago. I didn't pick them up, since I don't collect N64 stuff. I probably should have guessed that they might be worth something. I don't remember what games they were, unfortunately. Maybe one of them was Donkey Kong?

Retrogamer72 will know values better than me, but I've bought most of mine for between $5 and $25, but there are a few that are worth significantly more. If you happen to go by that thrift store again and they still have them, you should pick them up (well, as long as they're not priced something stupid).

All depends on what game it is.  If the DK was the gray cart it is probably worth about $75.  Other games range from $15-$20, games like Pokemon Stadium and Mario Party 3, all the way up to $200-$300 which are the 2 gray N64 Zelda NFR carts
  • Retrogamer, do you know if there are NFR copies of LoZ: A Link to the Past out there?
  • Really nice find congrats! image
  • Maybe the most wanted NFR N64 title, congrats on the find!

Ya i don't know much about NFR either, but the one i accedentilly sold was a PAL version and not a NFR.
  • Finally made it back to that thrift store...and boy do I have a bad memory! I had gone to several thrift stores that day, and the details had started to blur. The two N64 carts I saw were NOT NFR carts. The NFR cart I saw was actually an SNES Street Fighter 2. I just picked it up for $8 (kind of expensive for a thrift store, but some of them around here have started selling NES and SNES games as "vintage collectibles"). Any idea how much it's worth? I didn't find any completed listings on Ebay, but it looks like there's one up as a BIN for $48 or so. I'm assuming that's a little inflated. Also, my cart isn't in the best shape. It's got a smudge on the top that looks like sharpie, the label is a little bit discolored/stained in one corner, and it's pretty dusty. Also, I don't know if it works since I don't currently have an SNES to test it on. I don't really collect SNES stuff, so I'd like to sell it. Would it be worth it to put it up on Ebay? I'd be happy if I could get 20-30 bucks for it.

One other thing I just noticed: it looks like there's a number stamp on the back. It's stamped "09." I could probably post some pictures if anybody's interested.
  • Oh, sorry dude, I misunderstood!
