PowerPak Game Listings...

So, I'm very OCD when it comes to games being in order. When I found out that only 26 characters of the games show up on the PowerPak, I went through and trimmed all of the 1k files so that they fit on the screen. But that didn't solve my other problem. I alphabetized all of the games in their respective folders on the CF card by hand, but when I throw them in the PowerkPak on my NES, the games go all out of order. I put it back on the computer, and they are back in order.  For example, on the CF card on the computer the games go Bases Loaded, Bases Loaded 2, Bases Loaded 3, and Bases Loaded 4. But on the system it goes Bases Loaded 4, Bases Loaded 3, Bases Loaded 2 and then waaaaay down the list at the end is Bases Loaded.

Any way to get around this or anyone know what's going on? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Robbie

read about 3/4 of the way down the page under Current known bugs that aren't bugs
  • Okay, I'm well aware of that.

But, if the games are arranged alphabetically on the CF card, shouldn't they also be on the PowerPak?
  • no ... sorting alphabetically would take a lot longer to load ... i'd set up various folders to keep them organized
  • Guess I read something wrong then before, because I thought I read that games could be arranged how you liked, but the PowerPak doesn't sort them alphabetically. So I assumed you could alphabetize them or sort them how you liked and the PowerPak would just have them listed the same way (wouldn't alphabetize itself, but would load them in the same order as on the card). That's a bummer... Alright, well thanks though. Guess I didn't quite understand it.
  • I believe they are listed in the order they are copied onto the card?
  • They are in the logical order the file names appear in the FAT tables on the card. However if you are starting with a card that already has files then the operating system will be filling in empty spots in the tables, screwing up your order. If you start with a freshly formatted card then usually the OS will copy files in alphabetical order.
  • So, I started with a clean card, but then I moved some files around to alphabetize them more than the system did and it sounds like this may have led to some empty spots. If I remove everything from the CF card and repaste all of the games, should that solve the problem? Or will I have to reformat it? And if so, how would I go about doing that?

    Thanks.
