I can't really give much input regarding the difficulty of Legendary Wings and this one. I tend to prefer my shooters on the Genesis, where slow downs are less of a factor.
But I guess playing LW for low score is certainly more difficult than beating this game.
On a random note, nothing like sea food and some wine in a Sunday night with some good company. I might be too inebriate to give Roller Games a try today.

Getting a very high score of over 200k in Isolated Warrior is difficult too though. Hitting all those big boss bonuses is hard, as well as killing enemies instead of avoiding them in the later stages. Maybe not as difficult as getting under 80k in Legendary Wings.
I'd actually say playing Legendary Wings for low score is probably harder than this too
Just beating Isolated Warrior isn't too difficult, but still way harder than Legendary Wings, IMO.
Beating the game for high score (without point racking) involves killing a lot of the enemies during later stages rather than trying to avoid them, getting to every boss with full health as well as fully upgraded weapons and bombs, and defeating each boss without taking any damage. Managing all of that to get a very high score is not easy.
Try getting under 80K in LW
Under 80k in LW is harder because that game sucks and low score is a pain in the ass.

Legendary Wings is the best, easy shooter, on the NES! You think it sucks because you suck!
See, now, it's extremely difficult to get a score like this without point racking. Skinny must have played a near perfect game. Did you even avoid using any level 5 bombs in order to get the higher bomb bonus?
The only stages I didn't get a perfect end stage bonus on this run was stage 2 (because you guys started talking about insta destroy the rocks) and stage 7
Yeah, it definitely didn't occur to me to burn lives to point hack.
I pretty much did a few runs Wednesday to learn the game, three or so yesterday to get that score and just one today, trying to no-death it because of the lives bonus at the end of the stage.
I couldn't even get participation, but I wanted to let everyone know that I tried, and that I'm absolutely terrible with shooters of any kind (not that I'm exactly at the top of the rankings, hah)
The burning lives technique worked well for me in Wrecking Crew.
Where did you burn lives to increase your score? It must have been in a spot where you can still refill your health and weapons or you miss out on the boss bonus. The final level has tons of enemies but you don't want to lose any lives before the boss, unless there are refill locations that I couldn't find.
Yeah, as I said G&G is a game where I got some experience to be half decent at, so I knew a thing or two of point racking there.
This was a brand new game for me, so I tried to approach it the same way I do with the games on the "Can NA Beat Every NES Game In A Year" thread and just beat it.
It was fun. I wouldn't have enough time to figure out the best spots to die in order to point rack and recover all your power ups right after dying, anyway.

Yeah, soon after asking that, I noticed that you have level 4 bombs in your screenshot. D'oh.
I never found those secret weapon cache places either, in no stage. I should take a look at a guide to figure out them if I am ever revisiting this game.

The only weapon refill spot that is very useful is the one in the first stage. You bomb the red brick building on the left in an alley right after the mini-boss. It makes the game that much easier if you start out with full weapons upgrades.

And I am looking forward for Santa's update.

What you got fruit cake?!?! Show your hand.
I never timed it. Did it really take that long?
Ya, I beat this game at least 10 times this week. Ayyyeeee!!

A technique you use in g&g.
Thank you. Tips hat*

Yeah, I'm curious where you'd burn lives too.
Stage number 1 big killer
hit the secret area until I had 0 lives
I'm guessing that skinny burned lives in stage 6. There is a weapons refill early in the stage and a health refill later in the stage.
I never found the weapons refill except stage 1 and 2.
Supposedly there is one in every stage.

How many points did that add to your score? I wish I had thought to do that. Nice strategizing.
