Have you progressed much further since you last posted a score?

That's for Brock to know and skinny to speculate!

Now I know what it's like to have a high score and be worrying about what others will post. I'm wondering whether I should make an effort to beat the game this weekend or start practicing Roller Games.

  • I always think of it this way; if I play a game for another 10 hours, how many points in the standings to I actually stand to gain? Its its 1, then its not worth it

    Using the bombs I'm assuming?

I always post early. I don't worry about what others will post. If they beat my score then so be it.

I think it's a bigger accomplishment to post early and have no one be able to beat your score than to sneak in a winning score at the last second. Nothing wrong with either approach, but in my opinion the latter choice is often fear driven...the fear of having your score beaten.

I also think posting early is good for competition. To see a score and try to surpass it is fun and I think it fuels competition and leads to better scores overall. My opinion of course.

And Rollergames. Ugh. It makes me sad that Konami/Ultra produced this abomination.

  • I flip flop. Sometimes its fun to hold the cards tightly to your chest. Especially since skinny wants this shooter icon BADLY

...or maybe these are just mind games and he has nothing to worry about

Oh I get it. There is definitely gamesmanship in holding your scores, but that's not my style at all.

I definitely have a Gutsman type mentality when it comes to the contests.

I have fond memories of renting it as a kid. I'll see how it holds up.

    Gameplay-wise, or aesthetics-wise?

    Radical!

  • Gameplay, haha. It was one of my favorite rentals as a kid. I remember it being a good time. We'll see if it still holds up or if childhood nostalgia gets crushed.
  • Seriously, gameplay-wise, Rollergames is close to the TMNT 2-3 games, not as good but enough to make it an interesting beat em up with a twist.

Yeah, I pretty much agree. Beat it earlier this year, probably won't revisit it for a while. The controls can make it really annoying at times.

    Scared?! Scared?! I ain't scared a nobody!!....

Sept Bert (I think he's the only one who's beat me when I'm talking smack Kobra style). And I'm not going to give him a target to shoot for, that's for sure.

All you other jabronies can turn it sideway... And you know the rest

The gameplay is less than stellar. I didn't grow up with it. Never played it in my life until last week. I don't typically play the contest games early anymore, but I was intrigued and wanted to see how it was.

    Woof...

I can say the music and sound effects are classic Konami goodness.
  • Hey skinny, I've been playing black box Golf for the Survivor thing, Contra III and Joe and Mac for my other contest, and Harvest Moon and Ultima for my SNES thread.

And I'm hosting a NES competition with friends tonight.

And I'm STILL going to beat you

...or am I bluffing about one thing or another. Guess you better grind this bitch just to be sure.

This is how the people here felt about Ironsword who didn't grow up with it. Although Ironsword grew on me enough to order the cart. Maybe Roller Games will grow on you.

We'll see. I like to give every game (even the universally hated ones) a fair shot and I try to find the good in those games as well. Some have more than others.
  • I agree posting early ftw is more impressive, no doubt.

But, rules is rules. There is no rule that says you have to post early. And. Kobra Kai always play by the rules

I'm fairly confident that even if I beat Isolated Warrior, my score will still be topped by you and Bert because you two excel at shooters. I also refuse to play dirty and sweeten my score with any intentional point racking. I'd rather have an honest score that is lower.

Level 6 is a real bitch if you die, eh?  Good thing Brock don't die.

Man, that's two references to myself in the 3rd-person.  Kobra Kai just brings it out of me!

Btw,as far as the boss of level 2 and it's rocks, one bomb drop when you approach it will stop that instantly.

My strat for that stage is to quickly switch to spread before dying and just do my best to survive to the next checkpoint during the tough sections. The important thing is keeping the fully powered straight shot. Stage 6 is brutal.

This is why I keep coming back to the contests....the camaraderie, the competition, and the fight to try to top each others' scores.

That's why I love early score posts so much,it gives you something to shoot for,a goal to beat. And even if you can't it's fun to see if others can top a particular high score.

Yeah, I always immediately drop a level 5 bomb on that boss to stop the rocks. Then it's short work to beat him. He's probably the easiest boss in the game... although the stage 5 boss is also extremely easy as long as your weapon is fully upgraded.

  • I had a pretty good game yesterday, and improved my score a bit.

I really wanted that 2 million, but I died on the final boss, so my level 7 bonus was cut way down.
