I really wanted that 2 million, but I died on the final boss, so my level 7 bonus was cut way down.

*Posts 1 billion point score tomorrow*

We know you are saving it,may as well post it.
  • I predict that bert, skinny, erizisto and possibly brock will all be over the 2 million mark by Sunday. My score might be good enough for 5th or 6th place, lol.

skinnygrinny is the one keeping secrets.  If anyone posts that, it'll be him.

True. Haha. The picture I really want to see is Skinny in full Cobra Kai regalia, preferrably breaking boards with kicks and smashing cinder blocks with punches.

Holy shit. This is a decent Kobra Kai move. "I died on the final boss" (in order to post a weaker score than I really have). Touche'

it it could have been better but I like it.

    Btw "it has begun!!!"

  • Alas, I am home earlier than I expected today, but I don't think I will manage to improve my score today.

The night will be spent in sweet company of female persuasion while watching either the Olympics opening or Suicide Squad at the theatres.

I will try to improve my score a bit tomorrow or Sunday so I might make cut past just participation.

    PS. Another great score Erizisto.
  • Skinny, just accept that bert will pass you on Sunday, and that you'll have to spend 80 hours playing Roadblasters in an attempt to earn that title

Lol. Dear god no! I'll fucking rage retire if Bert beats me by one point for the shooter icon (again).

I'm winning this week to earn enough cushion that I can cruise during road blasters. Grinding that game is going to make me stupider than I already am.

  • Is Roadblasters that bad? I haven't played it yet.

Lol. Nice. I guess I set myself up for that one

  • So I just made to stage 7, no deaths yet, and I'm kicking off the stage with 8 lives and 1,526,600 points. If I don't screw this up, I can get first place this week.

    I'm scared to even try.

EDIT: And I choked and stupidly lost my fully powered straight shot right before the boss, effectively ending my run. God dammit. Now I'll have to try again.

  • This is the worst Gradius effect ever. Losing your straight shot before the final boss will make you want to break something. Unless there's a hidden refill spot before the boss that I couldn't find, but I doubt it.

Pretty much. The Gradius effect absolutely annihilates the fun factor of this game and is completely revolting.

It forces you to no death it which blows because it makes the game more of a chore than anything.

Hell, after stage 2 you can't even practice the level you died at because you are weak as shit with your limp dick gun and very limited opportunities to power up. And of course you still have your goddamn half a life bar!

The programmers really dropped the ball on this whole situation. Isolated Warrior really had a chance to be a true "hidden gem",but the Gradius effect combined with the half a health bar they start you with downgraded that to "average find". 6/10.

I finally got past stage 4 thanks to a tip from mbd39. I had 910k going into stage 5 with 7 lives, but died and couldn't scratch out a million. What the hell?! Piss on this game.

You don't have to no-death the game as long as you can switch to spread in time to save the straight shot. The game is forgiving in that regard. At least you only lose the weapon that you're using.

If you downgrade this game for Gradius effect then you'd have to do the same for many other classic shooters. It comes with the territory.

  • I had a no-death run earlier this evening, and got the 2 million I wanted.

I wouldn't classify this as a full Gradius effect game.  For one thing, your default speed on this is not NEARLY as crippling as it is on Gradius.  Also, your jump is so effective, you can dodge just about anything in the game.  Combine that with the ability to always have at least one powered up gun if you swap before you die, and I think it's pretty fair.
  • I made it to the final boss _again_ and failed. I need to somehow be at level 5 bombs at the boss and have plenty of bombs left, but I tend to use them up during the stage so I won't die.

Oh I do....I definitely do. All of my favorite shooters do not have it for sure.

It looks like you'll get that billion after all.

It's true that you are not as slow and that you do only lose one weapon per death, but it still cripples you significantly and even more so when you do not manage to which your weapon in time. You can dodge a good amount of things, but the enemies often have a knack for finding you.

I know I keep harping on it,but the half a health bar is completely idiotic. I'd actually be more okay with the Gradius effect if you started out with a full bar since you'd have a little more leeway, but no.
  • Darn... the 2 million barrier was broken already!

Impressive. I will really have to put some time and effort on the game today so my score doesn't look so pathetic any more.
  • Minor score update.

Screwed up badly at the last boss and my run pretty much ended there.

    I will try again tomorrow.
  • I'm done here. F this game.

It's okay. The score requirement for top five placement is getting ridiculous. It's going to necessitate beating the game to make the top five.
  • I can't say I am overly fond of how death is handled in this game either.

If you die in the later stages and lose the concentrated blaster, your run is pretty much done.

One run I had a bunch of lives and accidentally lost my concentrated blaster before the final boss.

That was infuriating to say the least.

Ya, I'm pretty sure this week is going to come down to highest score for the win.

    ....and it's gonna be close.

I've never played this one, but it sounds interesting. Maybe I need to pull a Brett Favre comeback again.

By all means, do this!     You'll beat me at least!

I've been helping a friend move all week so it doesn't look like I'll get a chance to post anything. Pinball is coming up, so I might have to make a guest appearance then.

I don't even care about placing. It's just not fun to play anymore and when it gets to that point it's definitely time to move on

On a side note,I hope Rollergames has a low participation score requirement, otherwise I think we may have a record low number of participants that week.

Yeah, that is almost what happened to me on my run today. Screwed up and died with the concentrated blast selected at the final boss on my second life.

I pretty much just waited him to kill me again and again to snap the picture because there was absolutely nothing I could do there.

With continues I made it to stage 3-2 in Rollergames and then I was done. The checkpoints in that game are horrible. Miss a difficult jump and you have to go all the way back to the beginning of the stage. I might be able to get to 3-1 or 3-2 for the contest and hopefully that will be good enough for top 8. It will probably be another situation like Ironsword where the bar for top 8 placement will be low.

  • Isolated Warrior is exhausting me too. But man, I _so_ want to beat the game by Sunday night because I've already come so close. But if I can't then I can't.
