mine is constantly turned on. my wife is a Splatoon addict, I have actually considered getting a 2nd Wii U just so i can play a different game while she's splatooning.
I would say it is the 2nd con sole for the house, and it has probably gotten tied with the NES for hours as far as me playing games on it this past year.
lol while she's Splatooning sounds dirty. But yeah with Splatoon, Mario Maker, Mario Kart and Smash, Nintendo has a pretty solid online presence. I just worry about when servers get shut down
This is all subjective, but I'd say at minimum, 10 games warrants a purchases of a console. The biggest issue I have for myself is there's always going to be one console you favor more over the others, so it really comes down to console exclusives.
For me, the Wii U (and the Wii) is an add-on console. You'll get a few great games, but 90% of the major titles that come out aren't available on the Wii or Wii U, or have a much better experience on the other consoles, so it won't typically be your go-to console when you want to game.
For the PS4 and Xbone, I have at least 30 games for each. For the Wii U? 5, I think (Kirby, Mario 3D World, Mario Kart, Smash Bros., and Nintendoland). 2 of the games came bundled with it, Smash Bros. was a gift (even though I stated I didn't like Smash Bros. and asked him to save his money, but he insisted I gave it a shot). Mario Kart was great, and while it featured 16 brand new courses, I'm kind of tired of playing rehashed retro courses, and half of the DLC is rehashed tracks (making nearly half of all playable tracks are tracks from previous games). Still a great game, though.
That said, I don't regret purchasing the Wii U, but if I had to do it over again, I'd just not pick one up.

again, all subjective. But my main gaming is Nintendo first party and indie stuff. I have an xbone and the only games I really care to play are dark souls 3, doom, sunset overdrive and possibly battlefield when that's out. Other then that I haven't been excited for much this gen
I don't regret getting a launch wii u at all. I don't personally play it all that much but the rest of my family does. Mario Kart 8 has been played so much by my wife and kids. We have also played tons of Super Mario Wii and Wii U on it.
It has honestly been played more than my ps4 and xbox one. I personally have been playing more retro games than anything.
In 2013 my brother and I played so much Monster Hunter 3 on the wii u that right there that warranated the purchase lol. That 200 hours we spent on that game
Just not enough games to justify me buying one. And now that it is on it's way out and the list of games is still pretty small, i am glad i passed. At least until i can pick one up for dirt cheap.
If you love EVERY first party franchise then maybe. But there are a lot of titles on it's "worth buying a wii u list" that i just don't like or would get bored with in a day. Like DK.
And even then a lot of the games are just rehashed versions of old franchises IMO. Another mario kart, another kirby side scroller, re-release of gamecube zelda, smash bros, etc...........
I get XBONE and PS4 have a lot of the same as well, but at least there are multiple new franchises being released with new characters and settings to at least liven up the genres and make you feel like you are playing something new, even if it is just another adventure game, FPS, etc......
Every time i mention my opinion on this though or see others with the same, people get super sensitive and defensive arguing that it's MY/OUR fault we don't like the WII U. Or we are not putting the effort in.
When it is very possible not EVERYONE likes the WII U or is meant to own one
For the people who would like to get one when they are cheap, it may be a looooong time, or get one at a yard sale or CL second hand. The thing is, the tablet controller is required to use the system and not sold separately. It's not going to be like a Wii or GameCube or some console that sells for 20 where you just add controllers. Since you need to get it with tablet I could see it holding the 125 to 150 range for quite awhile.

IF you can ever pick one for dirt cheap; unlike the Wii which sold millions and millions, and to a lot of casual gamers, and thus has little value, this console will not be as easy to find in the future.
It will probably be much cheaper in 2-3 years, once the NX is well established, but I don't see this being available for $20-40 like an old PS2 or Wii.
i got a wii U 8gb white a few years ago brand new. was really excited to get it, but from the get go it has been underwhelming. seems like there is just not that many quality games for it. only ones that come to mind are mario kart 8, super smash bros, mario 3d land. and they are expensive at $59.99 each, why the $10 price hike especially if you remove the game booklets from the cases and put it all online. also seems like the wii u controller with the screen drains its battery fast. probably only played the thing 20 times or so about 30 minutes a pop each time, over the course of owning it for 2 years. feels like the original Wii was a stronger console, the wii U was just riding the tailwinds of the Wii's success and was a lazy move by nintendo to pump out something just different enough to justify being bought.
I think I would have regrets if I bought the 8GB version.

I think maybe we have different values for dirt cheap in this instance. I never said $20-40, that is even low for PS2's NOW and would be basically giving it away. Heck a GBA SP goes for that.
I was thinking more like $100-130, which is definitely pheasible in a year or two for one and still dirt cheap to me, considering the initial price and the technology you are getting that definitely falls under the cheap bracket to me.
But maybe dirt cheap was a little bit of a stretch. Regular cheap might be better lol
Yes, unless the Nintendo collectors keep its value inflated, I see this console being $80-100 in a few years; as gamepads break or get lost, they will be the valuable piece, the console without a gamepad may be dirt cheap (my definition!) though.
It's not without flaws, but I've really enjoyed mine. Got the Windwaker version and kept the box for display. The Windwaker HD with the gamepad has been great to play, along with NES Remix, Ducktales Remastered, etc. I'm looking forward to Twilight Princess HD someday.
This is a nintendo forum, so not many people are going to regret buying nintendo products, and I would wager that multiple people in this thread own more than 1 Wii U, simply to collect various SKUs.
I personally believe that the system is garbage, and there is a reason they're pushing back the release of the real Zelda game, so that they can release it for the NX, instead of wasting it on the Wii U.
I do think the console has some good games, but not enough for me to care about it, or want to play it. I mean, I can only play Splatoon for so long, and if I want to play Mario then I'm going to play Super Mario World.
At this time, I find myself almost exclusively playing PC games. No consoles, in my opinion, are releasing games that I care about.
Sorry man, just know that it went to a good home! We play or use it daily. With Splatoon, Mario Kart, Mario Maker, DKC, Star Fox (son loves it), Smash Bros. it is by far the most used console in our home. My kids absolutely love it, and it is one of my favorite consoles. No regrets at all here.

I'm glad that you're getting good use out of it! I will probably buy another one down the line so I can play some of these games I've acquired in the past few weeks.

It will definitely have to wait until the AVS LLE stuff happens. I'm hoping there will be a killer bundle around Christmas time and I'll snag one at that time.
Nah, it has plenty of great Nintendo games, which is what I expected going in. I wasn't expecting 3rd party stuff on it. I play it far more than my PS4(though that's mainly because I primarily game on PC).
