  • I didn't have high expectations for this one but I'm pleasantly surprised. This is the closest thing to the Battletoads experience I've played so far (platforming mixed with beat em up, the feeling of being able to continue indefinitely to make slow but steady progress for practice, tricky moves that require precision).

I still haven't beat 3-2 but that shouldn't be too long. Hopefully I can make it to 6-4 and then actually start working on lowering my score.

Well good luck.  5-1, 5-2,and 6-2 are all significantly harder than 3-2.  Stupid platforming.

I'm on 5-2 now (continue practice run - not a real run). It's not too bad, but I can't figure out how to beat the boss without running out of time. It's like I'm not getting enough hits in. The platforming is challenging and sometimes straight up cheap (latter part of 5-1 especially) so I'm sure it will be frustrating once I'm actually putting in a real run.

I'm going to have to make up a lot of ground to get a score like that with me barely playing like I have been most of the time.  I would have 119 with participation scores the rest of the way.  I'd be happy with Top 5 overall!

Some of the remaining games just seem like arnpoly games

  • Since bert is gone I'd happily help with scoreboard duties this weekend
  • Score:13200

    stage 2

this game is really fun, have no time these days
  • 3D World Runner should be part of the contest next year for sure..........
  • Stage 2 13,800

2016 WEEK 26 SANTA WEEKLY NEWS UPDATE!!! - ROLLERGAMES

    ***********************************************************************************************

Rollergames this week pleasantly surprised many contestants who had low expectations before popping in their carts (or firing up their emulators).

This marks the second-to-last Beat 'em up for the year and barring a small miracle it's a 2 man race for the title in that genre.

Lunar Pool is next week - followed by a bye week. Then it's into the final stretch of the regular season.

With a few of the stronger players going MIA, some contestants on the bubble are making a run on getting into the final 18.

Take a look at the update this week to gain some insight on final playoff pushes as well as get caught up on some of this weeks shenanigans.

    ********************************************************************************************

JANDREM IN THE MIX FOR HIS FIRST MEDAL OF THE SEASON

Brock Landers currently sits in 1st place with Jandrem close behind in 2nd

Although current 2016 Beat em' up king Brock Landers is leading the pack at the time of this writing, Jandrem is making a strong case for his first medal of the season.

Jandrem and Brock are the only two to submit a score this week with Rollergames completed.

Jandrem has come close a few times to medaling a game...

    Week 5   [1943]... he placed 5th

    Week 10 [Ghosts N' Goblins]...he placed 6th

    Week 23 [Ironsword]...he placed 5th again

In a field of 71, Jandrem is currently ranked 23rd which would land him just outside the field of 18 entering the playoffs.

But a strong showing this week would bump him up the standings a spot or two and put him in good position to make the playoffs going into the final stretch of the season.

As with many contestants, Jandrem seems to have a busy schedule and has not been able to post a score every week.

Should Jandrem make the playoffs, other players better keep an eye on him as he has the potential to post some big scores when given time.

Good Luck the rest of the way Jandrem.

NA CONTEST MODS AND PLAYERS COME TOGETHER TO FINALIZE RULES ON THE FLY FOR ROLLERGAMES

Cooperation saves the day to keep the contests running smoothly this week

Two days into contest this week Brock Landers discovered a way to break the scoring and an immidiate rule change was discussed.

mbd39 and guillavoie were quick to chime in.

At first a 1 life run was discussed, but that was deemed too difficult to snap a qualifying score.

Then it was switched to a farthest progression/low score contest which seemed to be the best choice.

The rules were modified one final time on Day 2 when point pressing was outlawed to prevent life farming.

Everyone seemed to agree on the new rules and bimmy_lee updated the original post with the new rules in place.

Should Rollergames be used in future contests, this might be a good reference.

Excellent job by all involved to make this week as fair and balanced as it could be.

BERTSAMPSON BREAKS NES TV - RIDES OFF INTO CANADIAN SUNSET WITH WIFE EARLY IN THE WEEK

Season points leader gets some R & R away from NA

On Monday Overall points leader bertsampson posted a score after attempting to put a powerpak into his NES TV (breaking the door in the process).

Unfazed, he then posted up a score making it to Stage 3-2.

This (according to the human cyborg himself) will be his score for the week as he is taking Mrs. bertsampson up across the border to the Great White North to celebrate 15 years of marriage.

We here at the Update would like to send warm wishes the Sampsons way and hope the juggernaut will return next week well rested for Lunar Pool.

Hopefully that NES TV can be repaired as well.

    ***********************************************************************************************

BEAT 'EM UP TITLE COMES DOWN TO TWO SEASON LONG RIVALS

It's The Prodigy vs. Kobra Kai in Kick Master the last week of the regular season!

    Sandafloor! (again!)

The Grindtacular skinnygrinny finds himself in yet another race for genre supremacy.

This time he is nipping at the heels of his season long rival Brock Landers for the 2016 Beat 'Em Up crown.

We've all seen Karate Kid references up our asses all season long between these two fierce competitors.

It makes it all the more entertaining that the fight to be the best NES fighter will seemingly come down to these two.

With bertsampson already tapping out this week, skinny will have to find a way to keep it close to Brock for an exciting finish!

Here are the current standings in the Beat 'Em Up Genre...

    1st: Brock Landers  26pts.

    2nd: skinnygrinny   25pts.

    3rd: bertsampson   19pts.

    T-4th: ToxieRules   17pts.

    T-4th: arnpoly       17pts.

Unless Toxie or arnpoly come out of nowhere with a monster score, skinny would just need to overtake bert's score this week to set up a massive pay-per-view showdown with his arch rival for Kick Master.

Does skinny have it in him?

Will Toxie or arnpoly bomb the party?

Can Jandrem's current score keep skinny too far away to catch Brock?

We'll know more in about 22 hours!

    ***********************************************************************************************

CAPTMORGANDRINKER SHOWCASES ROLLERGAMES PINBALL MACHINE IN THE CONTESTS THIS WEEK!

    ...and it's magnificent!

Smack dab in the middle of a trip down memory lane between Jandrem and TWarwick07 (who were discussing the aewsomeness of the amazing Rollergames themed TV show form yore) captmorgandrinker showed up

to showcase his newly aquired Rollergames themed pinball machine!

The machine's marquee is highlighted by two guys in a red shirt punching a poor guy in a white shirt in his balls.

There is also some very nice cartoon ass in the bottom right corner.

That's a fine looking machine Capt.

Thanks for sharing it with the contests!

BOLD PREDICITONS - THE BOLDEST YET FROM BROCK LANDERS!

    It's the Contests' Horoscope!

Brock was apparently feeling "extra" bold this week.

Instead of posting his usual weekly predictions, he went ahead and predicted how the top 6 would finish 7 weeks from now.

Take a look and see who Brock thinks the best 6 players from this year are below.

    1st: bertsampson      275pts.

    2nd: Brock Landers    219pts.

    3rd: skinnygrinny       218pts.

    4th: arnpoly              145pts.

    5th: ToxieRules          133pts.

    6th: gutsman004       123pts.

As usual, Brock has predicted beating his rival by the most satisfying of margins.

Missing this week though was the typical posting of Richardhead on a milk carton.

If Nostradumbass's predictions ring true - these 6 would be the best of the best this year and would battle it out for the Ultimate Championship - Tier 1!

    *********************************************************************************************

    T-4th:  TWarwick07      16pts.

Some intersting races left for sure.

As the top performers batle for genere supremacy, the rest of the field will be fighting for a playoff berth.

Stay tuned next issue for another medal/place count for the top performers!

    **********************************************************************************************

    That's it for another Update!

    - Will Jandrem win his first medal of the season?

    - Can someone break into Richardhead's house again just to see if he is OK?

    - How will Kobra Kai handle the pressure of being so close to so many genre championships?

Keep tuning in to the contests to find out!

Come and get it skinny.  I want you to torture yourself all weekend with this game for my beat em up award because I AM going to perfect this

That's going to be tough to beat sandafloor I played for about 4 hours today. I got to stage 6.

  • Sweet update Santa!

I'm currently trying to beat this game to keep it close for the beat em up icon
  • Ok, no-deathed the game

Skinny if you can (somehow) beat this last score I'll be posting... well my hat will be off to you

I'm getting close to what you have up now. I can't see it gets a whole lot less than 40k. Unless throwing people in water is less points or time on those highway stages?

  • Congrats on the no death. Some of theese jumps are, well, not so fair
  • Stage 2 (15,200)

Just participation this week.  This was the first time I made it farther than the first jump in 1-1.  That's particular jump is a pretty cruel way to introduce the platforming aspects.

  • Sweet write up Santa! Gonna give it another go tonight, but I might have to settle for the score u submitted simply due to time constraints.

Congrats on the no death runs! 6-2 slaughters me every time.
  • Stage 3-1 Score 15,400

  • At the Retro World Series this weekend in Houston.

    11400 - Stage 2

  • That was an awesome writeup Santa!

The strange thing about the backglass is that it has two "face" teams (The T-Birds and Rockers) beating each other up. Figured they'd have a face and heel team going at it.
  • 3-2 is giving me some trouble here today.
  • I updated the scoreboard

I may or may not forget to see skinny's score.  Joking!...mostly.

    I think I believe you

There's no point bluffing me though.  I'm at work all day and packed the game up last night.  Plus I wouldn't be able to improve my forthcoming score anyways, and would be very, very, very surprised if anyone else did

  • Score updated. I can get to stage 3-2 pretty consistently now, but that waterfall platforming will likely take more practice than I want to/can do in the little time remaining.

I got to 6-4 with continues and by my math it was around 39k and I destroyed 3-5 enemies (unforced). So idk how much each enemy is worth but I didn't kill but a handful. I'm thinking maybe MAYBE 36k more like 37. But I can't get through without continue yet so....

    Close.

  • How many hours are you into it today skinny?

Grinding away at this game all weekend?  Just like I had hoped

  • 40,000

This game is an awesome time. One of my favorites of what's been introduced to me through these contests.
  • It's a solid game, but it's my least favorite of the beat em ups we've played this year (with Battletoads being my favorite, and one of my favorite NES games period). I didn't find the gameplay addictive enough to grind beyond the score I posted days ago.
