Songs that sound like a video game

For all you closet musicians, as I am, you have a particular interest in songs that sound like video game music.  Whether it be the synthesizer, guitar, or anything else, it sounds like a game.  For me, Rush - Tom Sawyer (the guitar solo) is very obvious.  And then, I think that many Genesis songs from their 80s albums sound very similar to video games.   I'm not talking about soundtracks from GTA.  I mean sound effects in songs that actually sound like retro games.  What do you think?  What songs do you think sound or remind you of a video game?

  • I always wondered about the sound effects used in this song -

Totally sounds like Perfect Dark to me and the song came out before the game.
  • Do samples count? This is 10000% from eternal champions

  • Rammstein - Sehnsucht

    (Spelling?)

Lol yes, sounds like a scene from Zelda or an rpg of some sort.  Nice.

The background melody DEFINITELY sounds like Perfect Dark, and even a bit like Goldeneye but just a few seconds of it.

...pretty deliberate tho. Plus I happen to like SoaD so nuuh!
  • There's 20 seconds to this song that I feel would be awesome in a videogame . Starting at 2:46

  • The intro to Through the Fire and the Flames by DragonForce always reminded me of something you might hear in a game like Castlevania: SotN.

  • Baba O'Riley by The Who.
  • Are you into something a little heavier? I would say this track would fit nicely in a Mega Man 3 level.

You may need to say "teenage wasteland". Everyone I know looks at me like I'm speaking a foreign language when I say the actual song name
  • Der Kommisar intro and synth line...I feel like a lot of 16-bit game music took inspiration from that track
  • As a kid, I always thought that the Brain salad surgery album sounded almost like it could have been the soundtrack to Tron
  • The synth lead (0:00 - 0:55) sounds like a game and the chorus always reminds me of Lambchops' "song that never ends" (0:55-1:15):

The synth lead here (0:23-0:35) also sounds like a game:

  • at around the 40 second mark
  • Pretty much any of the weather channel music reminds me of videogames. A lot could have been in Donkey Kong Country games or Hal's Hole in One golf on SNES (I played that golf game a lot as a kid). At around 1hr 15min mark there are some syth guitars that have that Goldeneye from N64 sound.

That song and PT.2 are fantastic. Thanks for the link!
  • The music of Milli Vanilli "Baby Don't Forget My Number" has always reminded me of Donkey Kong Country, or Rare music in general, for some reason.
  • Pluck any random Casiopea song and it'll probably sound like it belongs in a Sonic game.
  • I've often heard people say that The Beatles "Flying" sounds like it would be in Pokemon

...then you should probably know that this isn't SoaD.   They are called "The Rabbit Joint" and this particular misattribution has been going on since the days of Napster.

  • The beginning sounds like something from the Mega Man X series.
  • There's a lot of songs I could pull from Nine Inch Nails vast arsenal of music. I'm a huge fan but this one came to mind first, particularly the start and around the 1:45 mark...

I seriously did not know this, lol of course I didn't get into SoaD till Toxicity and I've seen this diddle under their name and it sounded like them so I went with it. Learn something new every day.

I'm pretty sure they were deliberately trying to sound like SoaD.   The people who renamed the file and uploaded it to Napster that way we're obviously trying to share it with SoaD fans, so I'd say that it worked! Similarly, half the stuff out there that says "Weird Al" on it is just a Weird Al-style parody that got exposure by getting Weird Al fans to download it. C
