    -double dragon vs battletoads

    -metal storm

    Aren't these SNES games?

Just Battle Toads vs Double Dragon.

Power Pak would go great with your new AVS

Ahh good eye. I looked quick and saw battle toads vs double dragon and then metal storm which i misread as Metal Warriors.

But make sure to get BT/DD for NES, too.

It's better that the SNES version. I think so anyways. SNES seems too loose and not as tight as the NES. Plus I prefer the original graphics.

Also, lots of good games mentioned already.

    Some cheaper ones:

    Gun.Smoke

    Dragon Spirit

I ave nothing against flash carts, and have been toying with the idea of getting a few. Just curious what your reasoning is in this situation to avoid getting actual NES carts.

  • ^^^^Oh yeah, Gun Smoke is a must!

Because if you don't collect the way pegboy collects (full set), he doesn't want you collecting at all.

  • OP simply asked for games to play, but I chose to thread crap instead.

    Shame. Shame. Shame.
  • I'm suprised no one has mentioned The Three Stooges

No, because it's a waste of money to buy physical carts for any other purpose than collecting. You can try and justify it any way you want, but it's all a bunch of mind games bullshit you are playing on yourself.  If you like wasting money then go ahead and do it, but I'm certainly not going to tell people to make idiotic decisions.  They can do that all on their own if they don't want to listen to me.

All of the stuff he listed probably costs at least double if not triple of what a flash cart would cost.  Or maybe more, I have no fucking clue what NES prices are these days because I finished years ago.

But i DO like collecting, by NES adventure i don't just mean to play. I am on NA after all right?

I have collected most of what i want for the other systems so i can turn my attention to NES now. So the question becomes a personal one of if they are worth the money to me to own.

Still have to decide on that one, not really sure. Might go with a combo of both. Collect some carts i really want to have and flash cart the rest.

  • If you put a gun to my head and say "Pick your top 3 NES games!"

I'd be like..."That's a weird thing to demand at gunpoint... but ok...

    Legacy of the Wizard

    Battletoads

    StarTropics

    I like those choices

  • Maniac Mansion dude
  • If you liked the Advance Wars series, play the NES edition that started it, Famicom Wars. It's JP-only though, so you need some way to play the translation (repro or a flashcart).
  • A few I could recommend.

-Dragon Spirit (cheap, top down shooter with dragons)

-Legend of Kage (also cheap, side scrolling samurai game with flying ninjas)

-Werewolf (play as a werewolf that for some strange reason has blades for hands, incredibly fun)

    Hahaha.

    Douche.

  • Thanks for the recommendations everyone.

Seems i have quite the list to sort through!

I cannot wait to pop some of these games into the AVS and give them a go.

Many of them for the first time! Since i was just young enough to miss out on most of the best games and preoccupied with my SNES.

What else would one expect from that user(name)?
  • Monster in my pocket! One of the best games on the nes IMO. Seems to always fly under the radar but is worth owning.

    Especially with two players!
  • RBI baseball is a great baseball game too. It must have a bit of a cult following as they released a revival game on PS3. I prefer the first RBI baseball tho. I love the fat cute sprites.

I love how he tore you apart for wanting physical carts when he has a full licensed set himself? Maybe he should take his own advice and sell the carts and buy a power pak or everdrive? People piss me off sometimes!

Good luck on your new adventure bud! Deals can still be had and there is definitely a lot of very cheap games that are good!
  • Baseball Stars is the best baseball game on the NES, but that doesn't mean folks should write off Base Wars.

In fact, I might like Base Wars better! Where else can you play baseball with freaking laser swords? That's awesome you grew up with it, so you probably understand the awesomeness that is this game.

  • Starting an NES collection now is of course more expensive than it would've been say 6-7 years ago, but the commons are still available on the cheap. So long as you're not chasing the heavy hitters and stick to the games you like, it shouldn't be too bank-breaking. Not like the SNES, where it seems like every game costs at least $30 these days.

There is nothing inconsistent about what I said.  If you don't understand it that's on you.  And I never "tore him apart".  I'm giving him advice, as he mentioned perhaps buying a flash cart (I guess you don;'t know what an N8 is?).  Maybe you should actually read the OP isntead of jumping to conclusions.  Same goes for the cowardly mod who tried (and failed) to censor my post.

If he wants to buy physical carts for a 30 year old system fine, but it's not neccessary if he just want to play NES games.  The only reason to buy old carts is to collect them.

  • "cowardly mod"

Yeah, that will go over well.
  • Instead of providing any sort of argument against what I said he just erases my post anonymously? I'd call that cowardly.  Is that what the mods are supposed to be doing, erasing any opinions they don't agree with?  Did this mod forget that the OP himself asked for my opinion?
  • I believe it was meant to be a friendly jab, considering you chimed in with your usual buy a flashcart bit. Which is fine, you are entitled to your opinion, and I am all for just that if only for gaming, but Joe is looking to collect and play the games, hence the altering of your post. I guess what I'm saying is don't worry about it dude, I'm sure it's all in good taste.
  • The guy says right in the OP he wants the physical carts to own a few of the classics. I'm pretty sure he was looking for opinions on good games, not opinions on whether or not his decision to collect is idiotic or not. This is a collector's website, the fact that people here want to collect physical games instead of emulators should not seem like a shockingly stupid decision.
