  • Chase H.Q. finished!

A nice little cops and robbers game. Basically ramming the criminal's car with your own car. Only five stages which is pretty damn short. You get a limited number of continues as well (about four). Pretty good, but nothing really special about this one. I have to say, the control scheme is not that great either.

Not sure what game I'm going to tackle next. I'll have to check the list. ^>^

Thanks! I'll go through it in the next day or so. I'm obsessing over Kirby's Pinball Land right now.
  • Well I went Game Boy shopping today, and I'm very excited about this batch as I have some sort of attachment to most of them. I got the following games.

    Pac-man (Always a classic)

Side Pocket (Actually had this as a kid)

Burgertime Deluxe (Has a password feature which is a little odd. Might have an ending?)

The Little Mermaid (Ariel is hot. Everyone knows it.)

Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers (Had this as a kid. Zack is the best Ranger \o/ )

Double Dragon (mainly for the collection. Not a fan of the series)

Battletoads Never finished the NES game, but played enough to learn to like the series. Been anxious to play this)

Battletoads in Ragnarok's World (Port of the NES game that cuts out level 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10, but is incredible despite that. Been anxious to play this too.)

Chase H.Q (Mainly for the collection to build up Taito games)

Donkey Kong Land III (Was a big fan of Donkey Kong Country 3 as a kid, and I've been anxious to play this. It plays very smoothly so far)

I already finished Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, so I'll knock it off the thread's list. Really surprised nobody played it this entire year since it's really good, and highly overlooked.

Keep it up everyone! let's try and get over 200 by the end of the year!
  • I just got a bunch. Illl be working on Swamp Thing (already think I can beat this), Jetsons, Joe and Mac and Last Action Hero.

BTW Buster Bros seems fun but no continues or passwords? Looks like that one is gonna go unbeaten.
  • AAAAAND I beat Swamp Thing. Aside from the maze, its really easy of a game. I wrote out where to go in the pyramid maze, and then on the other level learned that you can stock up on lives when you repeat an area. Finished the game in like 20 mins. I looooove me some shitty games!
  • Add Jetsons now too. Game is like a tenth of the difficulty of the NES version. Game is super easy as long as you avoid the switch at the last level that fills the level up with water. Also only one boss in the whole game, the final boss. Very strange.

Double dragon on gb is way easyer than the nes one, and some of the levels they just made sidescrollers.

  • I've almost beaten Battletoads in Ragnarok's world. I just have to learn the last few parts of the final level, and then I get to fight the Dark Queen. Should be able to take this one out by the end of the year no problem.

I was also thinking that maybe we could do a trial run of the top score contest games in November and see how it goes. We could run it for a few select games in November, and if it goes over well that still gives me a whole month to put together a list of other similar games. For the trial run, I thought these would be good picks.

    Pac-Man (Arcade)

    Yoshi (Puzzle)

    Revenge of the Gator (Pinball)

If everyone's okay with it, we could give it a go. We're probably not going to finish everything by the end of the year, so we might as well do a little experimenting. November 1st for the contest?

I'll update the thread with new completions.
  • Battletoads in Ragnarok's World complete!

This is a very technically impressive Game Boy game! It's a port of the NES Battletoads game with a number of difficulty tweaks, and is only 7 levels instead of 12. It includes stages 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 11, and 12 from the NES game, all of which are toned down in subtle ways. The game is incredibly faithful, and plays absolutely perfectly. It's kind of a shame they couldn't fit all 12 levels in there, but the way it is right now is still really great. The game's price can be kind of random, but it's certainly worth picking up alongside the first GB Battletoads. I'll probably play it again next year.
  • I beat Joe and Mac and Last Action Hero... two both unnecessarily hard games ugh. Joe and Mac really needs a continue function. You basically have to not die to keep your upgrades until you get to the end but you also need to get lucky with extra health drops that you only get if you max out your health and dont get hit until the bird drops an egg. Last Action Hero requires SO much time to get used to the weird combat system. The first level is honestly the hardest. The enemies can sneak in a punch as you're hitting them. You basically have to run right up to them IMMEDIATELY and spin kick them 3 times. If you're close the game actually moves you further back just out of distance of their hits. If you whiff on the first kick cuz you were too far the first time, it doesnt seem to work. I dont get it at all. And the driving stage took a while to figure out, and limited continues... woohoo... found that on the 2nd to last stage. The first ones the hardest and so is the first driving stage. Everything afterwards was very short and easy. Its probably as long as the NES game. In that one tho you can just hop right over enemies and keep 2 on screen to despawn all the others haha.
  • Been running thru the GB stuff. I think I beat WCW Main Event. I went thru the tournament on 'world champ' but lost a match before the title shot. I did beat it on 'professional' and championship single event and you get the same ending. So im sure no matter what difficulty you play at, you get the same ending, even if a single match and not the tournament.

Looking into it, the tournament mode is clearly the meat and potatoes of the game, and you get end credits for completing it which you don't get in the single matches, so I'd say the completion requirements for this game are to finish the Elimination tournament mode on any difficulty. I'll add it to the completion requirements list.

If you only won single matches, I can't mark it off as completed. : (
  • I won the tourney but on 'easy', which is professional I believe.
  • I just beat In Your Face, which may be the saddest excuse for a basketball game I've played on any system. I won single games in both 1-on-1 and 2-on-2 modes, and that's literally all the game has to offer.
  • ...and now I've beaten Fist of the North Star, which I've beaten a couple times before for the GB project. Stupid game, but at least it can be taken out in under 20 minutes.
  • And for my next performance, Hatris is done. Beaten on the highest difficulty (Level 9, Shop 5, or something like that).
  • What's our win condition for Jordan vs. Bird: One On One? As Larry Bird, I beat the CPU on the highest difficulty (Level 4) in both the 11-point game and the full game (2-minute periods, score 20 to 15). Do I need to win the slam dunk contest and 3-point contest too?

EDIT: And -- sorry for the string of posts -- how about Super Scrabble? I just beat the CPU on the lowest difficulty, 290-273.
  • Those all sound fine to me. I'll also mark WCW Main Event off the list for Guitarzombie.

Don't forget that after Halloween, we'll be doing our test run of the top score challenges! I'll make it more obvious on the front page when it comes time for it. The three test games will be...

    Pac-Man

    Yoshi (Endless mode: Speed Low)

    Revenge of the Gator

Emulators are fine, but for crying out loud don't cheat with them. -__-

The top score contests are for fun, so don't feel like you HAVE to win them. Also if you play on an emulator, save states are not permitted at all, even for "continuing later". Any arcade junkie will tell you that part of the challenge of getting high scores is the endurance test of having to do it all at once, so just don't use save states at all. If you have the cartridges, you should probably just use them.

I've been going through the GB library lately to find which games would qualify for contests, and it's been more unpredictable than I thought it would be. Games that you'd think would fit perfectly like Elevator Action and Burgertime Deluxe are actually updated remakes that add new levels and an ending. : / I could always use help with this, so if you come across any games that have a top score function with no real ending, let me know.
  • I take pictures of all the games I beat, but if it wasnt so annoying to post pics i'd post them! I like emulators but now after playing on the original hardware the emulators feel so stiff!

I just upload mine to Tinypic. I'd have taken shots of some of the above (not Hatris and Fist of the North Star since I've beaten them before), but I can't find my camera battery charger and my cell phone camera stinks.

  • I've been slacking off about taking pictures. I really should have taken one for Quarth.   I may play it again next year just so I can take a picture, and record the ending credits theme which is really lovely.

Also, Guitarzombie is catching up to me in the rankings! : O You'll probably pull ahead, as a lot of the games I'm currently playing have already been finished for the thread. I'm more focused on my own goal at the moment, as I only need to finish 19 more GB games to have finished 100 different ones in total.   I keep a list of it here if anyone is curious. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZJCdnVhS2UrHUhTAtJBzG6kiKwjFhZOBOMJk2AoyPT0/edit?usp=sharing
  • Finished Dennis the Menace. It was a tricky game until I got the concept that its a search game where you have to find the 4 coins with the X on them. Then I got to the final boss and died. So frustrating... so I stocked up on lives and beat Switchblade Sam. I dont think theres any info or proof of anyone beating this game online haha.
  • Lock 'n' Chase complete!

At first glance one may dismiss this game as a Pac-Man clone, but it has enough level gimmicks and power-ups that it feels like its own thing. When you beat the game the first time, you get a credits roll with a "or is it?" style ending, and you unlock Extra Mode which has new levels, and must be finished to get a proper "The End" screen. I think we should include Extra Mode as part of the requirements for this game, since it's a whole new set of levels.

All around this was a really fun game, and I'd recommend it. Between this game and Burgertime Deluxe, Data East made a surprisingly good effort on Game Boy.
  • I finished Turrican! I've had it for a while and played it on and off. I really like the game because its so huge and its easy AND hard. I dunno, im weird but I really liked it. You need to really know where to go in the levels and do a lot of secret hunting for one ups. Hoping to find Universal Soldier soon!
  • I finished off Wario Blast: Featuring Bomberman earlier this year before I joined NintendoAge. I will provide photos from this point forward.

I know we've said beating the CPU in a regular game is enough, but just for the record, I went back and beat the slam dunk and 3-point contests too.

  • Here is my score for Yoshi: 7705, level 12, 56 Yoshi Eggs

    Yoshi GB 2
  • Completed WordZap on Challenge mode:

I don't remember whether I beat it on Level 1 or Level 2 difficulty (out of 3), but I think this should suffice to call the game done.
  • Holy cow guys! We're almost at 200! Let's keep it going and break past 200! I'm currently working on "Q*Bert For Game Boy" which is yet another game you'd think would be a fun top score contest, but actually has new levels and an ending. It's kind of interesting how a lot of these old arcade games got updated versions for the Game Boy. Donkey Kong, Lock 'n' Chase, Burgertime Deluxe, Q*Bert For Game Boy, and Elevator Action are all enhanced to the point of being entirely new games. If you're a fan of old arcade games, you'll probably want to check all of these out. I'm still working on this list, so who knows what I'll find next.

I also updated the games list to fix the title for the Q*Bert game. The title is literally "Q*bert for Game Boy".

Also would somebody take out those Rolan's Curse games for me if I deal with Boomer's Adventure in Asmik World? : P
  • Burgertime Deluxe Complete!!!

These enhanced arcade ports for Game Boy have all been pretty ruthless in terms of difficulty. Burgertime Deluxe has 24 levels, and you get a password after four levels. The first three sets of levels are pretty fun, and then the fourth set gets hard. The fifth set is really easy, and then the sixth set is also really hard. It's a really well made game though, so don't let the difficulty turn you away. It's worth owning in your GB collection if you're looking for games with some historical significance.
