Gamecube is my store's bread and butter, and some of the more rare titles are so impossible to get good deals on or pop up so rarely I've still never stocked a copy of them.
Off the top of my head, here are the more rare titles I can think of, regardless of price.
Cubivore
Gotcha Force
Digimon Rumble Arena 2
Pokemon Box
Top Angler
NCAA Basketball 2K3
Disney Sports Basketball
Disney Sports Football
Goblin Commander
Go! Go! Hypergrind (starting it's climb in price, get yours now!)
Phantasy Star Online: Episode I & II Plus
Spirits & Spells
Metroid Prime / Wind Waker Combo
Wind Waker / Ocarina of Time - Master Quest Combo
A few rarish ones that I don't think I'd actually call rare:
Skies of Arcadia
Ikaruga
Zoids: Battle Legends
Probably forgot a few, but those are the big ones I can think of off the top of my head.
I know there's tons more but that's what I have for now.
Definitely touch on some of the hardest to find though I don't think a few of those belong with the others personally. I think at the top is American Mensa Academy and some of the Maximum Racing games. Where does the rarest fall in terms of the number scale? For Wii it seems really hard to gauge currently, IMO. That said, if someone did try to put a number on it what would the rarest be number wise when compared to the NES/SNES/N64?
You heard the man! I've been looking for that for over a year and it better not jump in price or so help me I'll make a road trip to Silent Hill
my local store reduced the price of spirit and spells to 5.95 for no reason. I think it went back up though. This was a few months ago. Ive seen it a bunch of times though. That one isnt as rare as people think.

Same question applies to GC though.
I've always taken the number guide rarity to be relative only to that system. Meaning, a Wii game will be a 10 amongst Wii games, which has no bearing on stadium events being a 10 on NES. To see 10 as some objective figure seems far less helpful than having it be used relative to the console library it's examining.

That would make more sense to me, and make things easier, but I always thought it was all based on the same scale.

Pretty good list, although didn't they reprint super mario all stars 25th anniversary for the nintendo selects series? I'm also not sure about arc rise fantasia. You can buy that right now online from gamestop, and ebay has a fair amount of copies. The same is true for kirby's dream collectors special edition. F1 2009 and Fritz chess are definitely up there in rarity for wii games though.
Yes rarity is relative rarity. So the rarest Wii game will be an R10 for Wii, while an R10 on SNES will always be rarer. Rarity scale is mapped to that system exclusively.

Cool, that makes more sense. That said, why don't all systems have an R10? It would seem to reason that all systems would have an R10 for each a box, cart, manual but that doesn't seem to be the case?

I know there's a lot more but that's what I have for now.
I was at a Disc Replay in Indiana last weekend and I found 3 used copies of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 there. I was tempted to pick one up, but I wanted to verify the rarity and price first before I buy it. I thought maybe I could get it cheaper on the Bay. Even JJ Hendricks on Pricecharting said it was rare, but I found it odd that there were 3 copies available.

It's just valuable. I personally think it would be a stretch to call it uncommon. 35 copies on ebay atm.
Sakura Wars doesn't seem hard to find at all either (quick eBay search).
The rarest Wii game that I can think of is by far (correct me if I'm wrong) the Madden breast cancer variant that was only sold for a month. I've seen maybe 5ish copies on the internet since it was first discussed here on NA.
Honestly, Dokapon doesn't seem rare at all after the reprint, and I don't know why disc-only copies sell for $100 easily (but I'm happy with it!).

This is a pretty good list. I wouldn't consider some of those rare though, like One Piece, Dragon Ball 3, Fire Emblem, Dokapon Kingdom, Klonoa. I would say they all hold value really well and are good pick ups, but not rare. If we are just talking about production numbers there are a ton more that only have a few copies on ebay at any given time. I'm talking like 70 or so different games that have less then five copies on ebay. Example: Crazy Machines, it's not on anyones radar or on this rare games list, but theres only ever two or three copies on ebay, if that. I have a pretty good list going, but I want to pin it down more before I go public with it all. Once I do, I'll post it here.

Thank you, I would love to see that list.
And I agree with the mentioned titles being valuable instead of rare. I was going with my personal experience without taking the availability on ebay into account.

The problem here is that the reprint of Dokapon was disc-only copies, so that makes the CIB and New copies of the 1st print rare. That is my guess anyway.

You're totally right--I wasn't thinking of it in terms of the first print "variant"...just the game in general. Thanks for pointing that out.

Dokapon Kingdom had multiple reprints. The first reprint has the case, manual, and disc. The first reprinted disc is fully colored though where as the first print is the silverish color on white. The second reprint was disc only. Neither reprint was very large, but there was definitely more than one reprint.
Edit: Neither was particularly large reprints in comparison to titles like Xenoblade, but there were definitely more than one.

Interesting, ok thanks for the info as I am still learning about this. It just amazes me that the price continues to rise when in reality this should be the time where the price is rock bottom.

Yea, I agree. I think collecting is different than it used to be years ago. Systems that would typically bottom out after their normal lifecycle just don't seem to exist like they used to, at least not on the same level. Some collectors are trying to stay ahead of the curve and get what they before the prices go up. It's keeping some systems from hitting the extreme low prices we used to see. At least, that's my opinion on it.
So I've had one title that's been confusing me a bit. 100-in-1 sports party megamix for the wii. In some of the wii discussion/find/hunting threads, a good number of the most knowledgeable wii guys out there say it's pretty rare. But whenever I go on eBay I always see a ntsc copy or two that sold for $30 or less, usually around $15-20. And not just buy it nows, but auctions too. Is it a rarer game that just doesn't command a decent price yet? Or am I reading the auctions wrong? I'm not a big eBay user, so that could be the case.

Two things on this. All because its rare doesn't mean its valuable. Likely people haven't caught onto the rarity of that game, thus keeping prices low or people dont care about the title and the limit supply is keeping up with the limited demand. Second, this game is fairly rare in the U.S., but just uncommon in Canada.

Whats that Muscle Wrestling game for GameCube? Is that rare? I have never seen it in the wild.
I've only seen one of these in the wild and picked it up. I have seen more Cubivore's than this

Yeah I would say it's uncommon to rare. I heard its a fun game too. What's the name of it? Surely someone must know.

Ultimate Muscle right? I hope we were talking about the same one
Both of these could easily have their own threads. Seems like doing them together could be kind of messy.
Totally agree.

Same question applies to GC though.

I've always taken the number guide rarity to be relative only to that system. Meaning, a Wii game will be a 10 amongst Wii games, which has no bearing on stadium events being a 10 on NES. To see 10 as some objective figure seems far less helpful than having it be used relative to the console library it's examining.

For Wii :
- F1 2009
- Fritz Chess
- Sakura Wars: So Long my Love
- American Mensa Academy
- Jerry Rice & Nitus' Dog Football
- Let's Sing 2016
- Klonoa
- Dokapon Kingdom
- My Horse & Me: Riding for Gold
- Most Maximum Racing games
- Kirby's Dream Collection: Special Edition
- 101-in-1: Sports Party Megamix
- Lucha Libre AAA Heroes del Ring
- Atreveta A Sonar
- Ivy the Kiwi
- Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core Plus
- Cyberbike Cicling Sports
- Exerbeat
- Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
- One Piece: Unlimited Adventure
- Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3
I know there's a lot more but that's what I have for now.
I was at a Disc Replay in Indiana last weekend and I found 3 used copies of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 there. I was tempted to pick one up, but I wanted to verify the rarity and price first before I buy it. I thought maybe I could get it cheaper on the Bay. Even JJ Hendricks on Pricecharting said it was rare, but I found it odd that there were 3 copies available.

Thank you, I would love to see that list.
And I agree with the mentioned titles being valuable instead of rare. I was going with my personal experience without taking the availability on ebay into account.
