FA: Game Boy Bubble Gum + Trading Cards
in NA Auctions
For auction is a Game Boy Bubble Gum + Trading Cards collection. One opened, Game-Boy-designed plastic container with a flip-open top is included. Inside are 7 different cards (Super Mario Land x2, Super Mario Land 2, Yoshi's Cookie, Kirby's Dream Land, & Metroid II x2), which feature game artwork on the front and hints on the back. Intriguingly, there is a print error on one of the cards, so see if you can spot it in the photos.

HISTORY LESSON: For a brief period in 1993, these were sold like candy bars in local convenience stores, waiting to be pounced upon by the game-playing youths of the day whose parents yielded to their children's simultaneous demands for candy and video game paraphernalia.

I remember these. I got mine from Kroger, a grocery store. A few years later that's also where I got various Kellogg's cereals with the Game Boy Pocket sticker dispenser (Cocoa Krispies was one I recall with that promo).
I believe I got these from a local convenience store called Stahl's. I only kept one of the plastic containers and put all of the cards inside. In fact, the reason why my cart (pre-disc era) collection is loose is because I did the same thing with games. I'd keep one game box, put all the manuals inside, and discard the rest.
