BEST Packaging You've Ever Received on a Game?

So unfortunately we had another person discussing how NOT to ship a collectible today...

http://nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=5&threadid=166586

But what about the BEST packaging jobs you've ever received?  There's some people on the boards who may over package their items (nothing wrong with that), to the point where it can take forever to unwrap the item.  Anyone have good examples?

For me, I bought a roughly $400 CIB on Ebay a month ago with "Free Shipping".  I always message requesting a box with plenty of padding and generally it works out.  That's all I expected here, and I received much more.

Not only did they upgrade to Express Mail Next Day (~$25), the seller also worked in steel machining for a living.  So he specifically made a steel framed box to protect the game in shipping.  Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised and left him perfect feedback.  He should have gotten a 6 out of 5 stars!

I bought a game from a Japanese seller on eBay and I received a small wooden box in the mail. When I opened the box, my game was inside   .

Almost makes you want to send a thank you card!
  • NA member ThatSandersKid sent me a box with games and headphones, and he packaged it like a Tetris master with things perfectly wrapped and protected. i left feedback for the transaction that his packing skills were exquisite.
  • Just got a Strategy Guide Double boarded with currogated cardboard inside another cardboard box.

Several times I've gotten game(s) inside a very oversized box.

Got a game from a Seller in England inside a wooden box.
  • Wow that steel frame is awesome. The Star Keeper homebrew release stands out to me, was pleasantly surprised how nicely it was packaged.

I bought stuff from that guy before, and he is an absolute shipping master. Everything is packaged perfectly.
  • Wow, nothing that extreme.

I do remember earlier this year I had a nice sized PS2 lot come in the mail. I saw the box on my front porch and was saddened to see that it had been crushed on one side from being dropped. Not just "dinged" but someone had to like throw this off a roof to get the damage it had. Not only this, but it was also left on the edge of my porch which allowed it to get soaked from the rain all day.

I went ahead and did my usual ordeal by taking pictures of it and then opening it up expecting a return in the near future. However, the seller had like double bubble wrapped every single game individually (probably around 50 games total), the system, and all of the accessories. And then had packing peanuts every where else. Not a single item was damaged from the fall or rain. Couldn't believe it and repeatedly thanked the seller for doing such a fine job on it.
  • There was a member long ago who used to get a kick out of overpackaging the shit outta stuff. Anyone remember who? I think it took me ten minutes to get the game out of the packaging lol

    Chris (genesisdon't)

  • ding ding that was him. I miss that guy
  • Me too. He still stops by here a few times a year.
  • Lurchzilla packaged really well. But just typical building materials he didnt ship it in an armored tank or anything.
  • I sometimes receive very well packed double-boxed Xbox games for some reason. The game is bubble wrapped (sometimes with cardboard on each side), put inside a USPS priority box (in violation of federal law!), then put inside another box packed with newspaper. I've had this type of shipping for multiple Xbox games which average $5-10.

Meanwhile, when I buy a SCD or Saturn game, the sellers can't be bothered to shove something in the case to prevent the disc from popping out.
  • If by best you mean most overly protective, sometime earlier this year I bought an N64 game (forget which) but it was a fairly cheap title (under $20), cartridge only, no box or anything. I pick up my mail and I see a big box (roughly a medium flat rate box) and I'm like "what the hell did I order? I don't remember ordering anything this big". So I open the big box, and inside in a big bubble mailer envelope, and inside that is a priority cardboard mailing box, and inside that is packing peanuts and my game wrapped with extra thickness with bubble wrap. I mean I appreciated the care that went into making sure the game didn't get damaged, but damn, talk about excess!
  • Console5 absolutely blew me away with their packaging job. I ordered a ton of small/cheap stuff and ended up adding a bunch of games that were under $1 too, so I guess it counts.

Everything was packetized in bubble wrap and then packed in like cocaine bricks that you see in movies, then there was plenty of packing around all that too. Super impressed and not sure how it was even worth that much effort when almost everything there was worth so little (mostly components/parts).
  • I haven't opened it yet, but console5 may have already lost their crown to our own DxS:

He was sending a couple EEPROM adapter/EEPROMS and they arrived boxes and double-bagged with the outer one bein sealed air-tight.
  • Mine wasn't even a game, it was a game-related toy. Wrapped, padded, more padded, boxed, padded again, then boxed again. Also the way CGC sends books back is pretty nice too if you get a bunch--they come in these boxes suspended by a grid of cardboard, it's pretty neat!
  • I bought a Hot Wheels casting, not an expensive one, for a project I'm doing for someone else.

I was so scared that it was going to be shipped half-assed and I'd get it with the card bent up.

Nope, the guy shipped it in a carboard box with a lot of packing material.

Can't say I've had any bad experiences with games, those are usually shipped well.
  • I was impressed that my Vectrex came packed well. Wrapped, boxed, wrapped, boxed. But I consider anything that makes it unscathed to be well packed!

I'll second this was up there for best packaging.  I might still have the cardboard "halves".  Pretty sure I could stand on them without crushing.

On top of that the box has internal die cut styrofoam to fit the game perfectly.  No way that game was damaged getting shipped to anyone.

  • I got a stack up packaged in a large box stuffed with pillow stuffing.
  • I got a Galaga cart only that came in a mylar bag, cardboard brace around it, and in a strong bubble mailer. Galaga. $10 Galaga cart.

My Gun-Nac cart only came to me in a plastic case. Nice of them.
  • That steel box is killer, OP! Wouldn't be awesome if someone just MADE MORE OF THOSE to sell to collectors who ship in bulk?
  • I like when I get stuff double boxed that seems to be the safest way to get things.
  • Acidjaguar I remember had some pretty good packaging.........took everything into consideration really.

Putting the carts in sandwich bags was a nice touch.
  • This was one I received from Genesisdon't a few years back. I think my games were 3 cocoons deep:

Edit: Hmm, I guess I didn't know how to spell "cocoon" three years ago :S
  • I don't think I've truly had one bad pack job out of all the transactions on NA. The best was from an eBay user a while back though. Double boxed, custom styro, express shipped, and individually wrapped about 20 items... amazing.
  • My first NA transaction was with tuxedocivic. Minty CIB Contra Force. Came packed with loving care and the game was wrapped in Saran Wrap lol. My thoughts were "wow people on this forum are serious about video games". So awesome.
  • Surely, the strangest things I've ever seen used as packing material were blank VHS tapes. The guy who used crumpled up comic books was also interesting.

Quite possibly the worst was pretty recent. I bought a PVM on eBay, and the person shipped it in box just barely bigger than the TV. Of course it was ruined by the time it arrived.

Best is tough to say. Though I always appreciate when the items are individually wrapped in bubble wrap, and then put in a padded box with 2-3" of room on any side. That's my rule of thumb - package it well enough to survive a fall from a two story window and then getting kicked down the street to your house.
