Do NES manuals have seal variants?

I can see some cartridges and boxes have seal variants (round / oval), I have a few of them, but I've always thought the manuals did not. Now I look on the inside cover and realize there is a Nintendo seal there. Did the manuals also get the seal variants like the boxes and cartridges?

  • Yes. Look for a suffix in the item code of the manual to see variants.
  • I have two different Castlevania II Simon's Quest manual variants and that's one of the differences. I'm pretty sure one of my Zelda manuals was the same way. I have another from the Classic Series re-release that added a bunch of pages (mostly the "Notes" pages).
  • Cartidges, Boxes, Manuals...even posters have seal variants as well as other varaints.

Its best not to delve too deep into that realm because you'll probably wind up discovering that the inside of every NES cartridge has two different codes and they might be considered a variant to you...or the fact that there are board variants....or that some games have different codes stamped into the back sticker....or that the sticker has different varaints.....or that there are different textures to some nes dust sleeves....or that boxes have a code on the inner flap on the top that has variants.....or that boxes have another single digit code on the bottom that have variants.

I've had too many hot dogs on Sunday. I would have made Kobayashi proud.
  • Great, thanks. Is it possible for the manuals to have seal variants but have the same code?

I'm trying to match up my complete games with all the proper variants for each piece.

    Yes that's more than likely.

At least with PAL games. I think there are atleast 3 seal variants of Castlevania but the games all have the same code (code on the back of the cart can be different). Some manuals also have the letter "T" in a circle on them and some don't.

I'd love to see an example. In my experience they usually have a suffix, like -1 or -2. Some pages contain information copied from a legal statement that carries something like "Rev B" or some other indicator and I do wonder if those specific pages might get swapped without updating the main manual's document ID or revision control code or whatever they call it (doubt it).
  • Tonight I was able to confirm this. I have a Bubble Bobble manual which is NES-XX-USA and a circle seal on the inside. Tonight I found a NES-XX-USA-1 manual which is an oval seal on the inside. Looks like there are seal variants and they correspond to revisions.
