  • No one believes I'm a woman online...more so when I'm in games. So I just stopped bringing it up in games, don't use voice chat and let everyone think I have a dick lol. Technically speaking I want to be a man so...maybe they all knew before I did.

No one believes me when I type something that is blunt, that I'm not trying to be rude. They only believe me after I say I'm Autistic...it's like my get out of jail card ffs...why I put it in my siggy here...so people just know I'm not trying to be an asshole...honestly if I want to be an asshole, you'll freaking know when I'm trying to be an asshole. It's annoying to have to explain over and over again I'm not trying to be rude. I guess people love drawing conclusions on the internet.

And finally...this happened when I was younger mostly, but people didn't think I was as old as I said I was. I have a baby face...it's odd since I'm really tall for a woman and I'm pretty big. I also don't exactly look very hmm...nice? In the sense that you'd want to come up to me and talk to me...I have a frown on my face most of the time and just look standoffish...which is fine for me...makes people avoid talking to me. But I don't think I look young...others think I do...I just got carded earlier today while buying an R rated movie haha...

    Awesome!

I have a million band stories that I get funny looks about; things my bands have done, other bands we've hung out and been friends with, etc. The two biggest being that I used to own one of Dave Mustaine's King V's, possibly used on Rust In Piece. It's detailed better here:http://nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?StartRow=26&catid=7&threadid=164813 about halfway down the page.

The other, being that I was in a band with two(now one) of the guys from the band Skeletonwitch. Nate and Chance Garnette and I used to have a hardcore band called As I Burn back in 1999/2000, as they're from the Baltimore/Pickerginton(OH) area, and I was living in Pataskala, just north of that. I've known the bros. since 1995 or so through a mutual friend. I still have our demo CD somewhere in my garage. Nate formed Skeletonwitch after he started going to OU in Athens, OH, a few years after As I Burn split up. I admittedly don't get to hang out with either of them anymore, but when the band rolls though town I try to stop out and say hey to Nate at least(Chance is no longer in the band). We hung out a lot in the mid-90's when we were teenagers, but I became a domesticated, blue-collar family man, and they became rock stars.

Damn, that's awesome dude! Great story right there. Rust in Peace is my favorite Megadeth record by far.  That is NUTS about your band history. WOW.

My only real claim to fame is playing on ZEALOTRY's (death metal out of Boston) debut record The Charnal Expanse. I played bass. We had Shaune Kelley from Dim Mak and Ripping Corpse do a guest lead on the track "Apex Predator". I also got my picture in Terrorizor (with the band).

Thanks! Yeah man, it's so weird seeing the 'Witch blow up big over the years. Nate used to sleep over with me and my old high school garage band all the time when we were kids and have all-day jam sessions. Went to tons of concerts together, spent many nights passed out drunk at his parent's house when we were just old enough to drink. We're not super duper close anymore, but once in a blue moon we'll meet up at a show and kick it. I'm still super bummed that Chance isn't in the band anymore.

That's awesome that you got to play on a Zealotry record. That's a permanent thing, and not just a story!

It seems like such a small world through stories like this, lol. Thank you; it was a pain in the ass to get it done but it's a permanent work that's archived, reviewed, has a small following, etc. I'm not with the band anymore but it's still a highlight for me.

I miss the all day jam sessions with ALL the bands I used to play with! Time is a valuable resource these days, but I still keep up my bass chops on the daily. I'd love to jam with musicians again soon. Do you still play at all in your spare time?

Ain't that the truth. Time is more valuable than money, the older we get.

I took a break from music for a while back in 2013, but I've been playing with a new band recently. We don't have much online yet, but we've got some great new stuff we're working on. Kind of a mashup of melodic death/black metal, some thrash, and a few little Opeth-style proggy bits thrown in just to shake things up. We're looking to record a demo soon, still working on finishing the lineup.

  • I mentioned using an Action Replay cheat to bootstrap a GameCube software loader from the memory card in #Dextrose on EFNET. A short time later, Samson released Samson's AR Loader. I'm pretty sure he got the idea from me but I have no way to prove it.

I publicly tried to commission someone to build me an N64 USB adapter when the first stuff about how to do this was put on the Internet (I was a teenager and not comfortable doing it myself back then). A long time later I got emails seemingly out of the blue from David Stam of WishTech, asking what I wanted to see in a totally new N64 USB adapter. It seems that I was stupid and used my real email address in a public newsgroup, which is why that email address is full of Chinese spam even today.   Thankfully, most of my feedback was implemented. Not sure if he ever would have made WishTech and The Adaptoid otherwise but, again, no way to prove it.

Apple stopped signing some firmware update back in the iPhone 4 days. I didn't know when I attempted a downgrade. It worked, and I soon stumbled across something indicating that the signing window had closed days ago and that it shouldn't have worked. Thinking that it was important to let developers and users know that Apple had reopened it (momentarily or not), I tried to tell the good folks in #iPhone and #iPhonedev, but they kicked me and banned me for "trolling." Of course I had no way to prove I had just downgraded to get where I was. It was just an FYI, but they didn't take kindly to it.

OP: luckily, cops can't just fine you on the spot like they can in other countries. It'd be very easy to prove innocence so it would never make it that far. Their disbelief can still be annoying.

I remember when my twin brother and I were taking our younger friend camping at a place pretty close to home (~1.5mile walk + hike through the woods). We had just turned 18 so we didn't need permission ourselves and our friend's grandpa had given him permission. We had already set up the main tent and went back home for more stuff. On the way back to the campsite the police saw us walking down the road with backpacks and stopped us to make sure that we weren't runaways or something. They talked to our friend's grandpa who got scared of a negligence charge or something and so he said he knew nothing about it and hadn't given him permission. Of course, that put us in a bind with the cop insisting that we were lying. He just wouldn't believe us about what we were doing or where we were going. As an adult I didn't even have to tell him what we were doing or where we were going unless he had probable cause to believe we're were doing something illegal, and he didn't (walking with backpacks in broad daylight on a public street is not a crime).

The cop started threatening to take us to jail if we didn't go back home with our friend's grandpa. "You either go home with him or you go to jail with me." I told him that as an adult I could decide to get on a plane and never go "home" again if I wanted to and that there was absolutely no justification for telling an adult that he has to go in "custody" of some unrelated adult. I could legally do anything else an adult would do with their day. It was laughable to even suggest that I had to "go home" with this kid's grandpa. Even so, the grandpa finally came over to the squad car and begged me to comply so that he wouldn't get in any trouble for allowing the kid to go camping with us. It's not like he wasn't with adult supervision (us), but I don't think this kid's grandpa considered us adults yet just because he had known us as teenagers for years. Though invalid, his concern was genuine so I eventually relented and went back with him.

Of course, other kids went to the same swimming hole where we pitched our tent earlier and destroyed it while it was unattended for a full two days. Thanks a lot, police!

I swear that we had permission and the cop didn't believe me so I guess that story is also a "no one believes me!" story.
  • The most common misconception about me is that I'm older than I look. People often peg me as being between 18 and 25. I'm 33. I work at a grocery store part time in addition to my full time job, and customers often make comments like "so are you in high school? college?" I'm like.... I graduated high school 15 years ago. A lot of people tell me they'd kill me to look as young as me. But it often works against me. I'm often the only person that gets carded in my group of friends. And also I feel people that don't know me don't take me seriously which really sucks during job interviews. They see me and they see a young kid fresh out of high school with no experience, despite what's on my resume and despite my actual age being on the application. I feel like that's not what they see. But whatevs, I'll probably appreciate it when I'm much older.

I also saw a UFO once, pretty recently, driving home from work.
  • I was in a GWAR movie. (I played a bunch of costumed characters)

Also, Dave Brockie (Oderus Urungus) loaned me his police costume for a project I was making for school in exchange for a bag of dog food.

It's actually a lot more mundane if I put it in context, but perhaps it will help add to the mythology if I just leave it as is.

Highschool ID, haven't gotten an actual ID yet so.. whatever.

Under what circumstance is a cop going to look at, or be in possession of, your highschool ID?

FYI - in this country, there are relatively few circumstances where you are required to present ID to the police, even if they ask for it.

(i.e. operating a motor vehicle, buying alcohol/cigarettes, entering military bases, etc)

You are generally only required to tell them your name and where you live, were they to stop you somewhere in public.

(highschool ID isn't "real" ID anyway...  )

Bad example, didn't know that stuff though. I did try going for a job interview and having the guy reject me after thinking I was messing with him between the height and the "fake" birthday, but luckly I knew someone at the store who vouched for me.

Also the fakeness of it's why I mentioned it, since he mentioned scanning it

Seems bizarre that a person would think you were lying about being 16 to get a job

Though I could see somebody not wanting to hire a person that didn't have a real ID, since it would be a bit more of a hassle to do the hiring forms.

(lots of people get learner's permits at 15, which is a "real ID" just like a standard driver's license)

(and I don't think I've met anybody 6'5"+ that wasn't that height before age 16, anyway -- the main guys I remember being that tall were already >6' in 7th grade)

I'm 6'4" and that's the way I was in middle school/early high school.

I don't believe I was ever questioned about my age though.

Jumping in to add, I was 6'7" at 15.  Actually went from 6" to 6'7" over a very painful summer when I was 15 years old...  my everything hurt that summer.

Don't listen to Randy, he's like eight feet tall if memory serves.
  • I played street hockey with sydney crosby growing up in cole harbour, also I stole is textbook in grade 8 that he had signed and dated but my mom threw it out. I planned on selling it for big bucks.
  • I don't care what you are saying, I still don't believe you.
  • You know how in early RPGs if two characters attack the same enemy, the second character does nothing if the first character knocks out the enemy? Nobody ever believes I'm serious when I say that's a good thing.

Games like Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy Legend and Golden Sun have more strategy than stuff like Final Fantasy 6 because you have to plan out your attacks a little more carefully in order to be efficient. You don't want to waste a character's turn, so you have to think ahead if a specific character can knock out an enemy by himself. It makes those mindless battles that you can easily beat a little more interesting since you can make them go quicker with a bit of thought. In other rpgs you just mash the first enemy and let the computer target whatever is next.

Still, nobody ever takes that argument seriously, and I'm just defending Golden Sun's "outdated" (a.k.a more challenging) mechanics.

You can find it on youtube if you're curious. I played different audience member characters: a cop sitting in the front row, one of Cardinal Synn's synnite's, in other scenes as a mailman who gets strangled by Crankenstein, Monica Lewinski. I was also helping behind the scenes at the rock quary and at the park when they filmed the slaves get ground up. My biggest contribution was finding them one of the It's Sleazy girls, after the original girl flaked out.

And if they see my ID, a lot of people will think I'm messing with them. Wanna know why? My birthday is April 20th, 4/20. And it's not like this happens infrequently, this happens literally at least once every week or two and it's really beggining to bug me. I'm just hoping that a cop doesn't look at my ID and fine me thinking it's a fake one  .

Anyways, anything stupid about you guys no one believes?

Nobody is going to believe this but my birthday is 4/20 too!

It actually is, but like everyone else predicted I've never had anyone question if it was my real birthday, using any ID. Fang old people nowadays don't even know what 420 means. Also I've only ever been to school once in my birthday. Ever. By pure coincidence. And that day sucked big too, I was sick (as usual on my birthday) and didn't even do my homework. I tried to explain it to my teachers and most of them understood except this one teacher who I had a project due im her class, who wouldn't let me turn it in. At all. I almost failed that quarter but I got a 100 on my quarterly test so I showed her in the end  . Anyways a couple if times its been weekends on 4/20 but every other time I've always been sick... People of always think I'm getting lit on my birthday at home or something. I don't correct them either cuz I actually just don't care what other people think about me. Its kind of bad at times but that's a whole other story.

Ole' Sid spent his high school days down here in southern Minnesota. Not near me unfortunately.

Dude, that is freaking awesome. I would kill to meet him (huge Pens fan).

Anywho, I drilled a hole through my hand trying to make a water gun. Most people don't believe me until I show them the scar.
