You won't get fined by a cop. They'd have to confiscate it, and possibly put you under arrest, if it was actually fake. They will run it.

FYI - in this country, there are relatively few circumstances where you are required to present ID to the police, even if they ask for it.
(i.e. operating a motor vehicle, buying alcohol/cigarettes, entering military bases, etc)
You are generally only required to tell them your name and where you live, were they to stop you somewhere in public.
