These 18 Rare Nintendo Games Are Worth a Fortune

Thought this would be funny to discuss, here's the link.

For those who don't want to click through.  Titles and price mentioned:

1) NWC Gold ($27,000)

2) Little Samson ($2,900 CIB)

3) Stadium Events (Could be worth more than $1,000 to the right buyer - ha!)

4) Starfox Super Weekend ($1,000)

5) Donkey Kong Competition ($1,500 to $2,800)

6) Bonk's Adventure ($850 CIB)

7) Bubble Bobble Part 2 ($600 CIB)

8) Ducktales 2 ($350 CIB)

9) Flintstones 2 ($500 to $1,200)

10) Jetsons Cogswell's Caper (Carts sell up to $1,200 - ha!)

11) Power Blade 2 ($1,000 CIB)

12) Action 52 ($500)

13) TMNT Tournament Fighters ($125 to $200)

14) Chip N Dale 2 ($175 to $250)

15) Snow Brothers ($400 CIB)

16) Bomberman 2 ($125 to $150)

17) Dragon Fighter ($150 to $250)

18) Panic Restaurant ($300 to $600)

Obviously just a click bait article.  I guess it's an okay article written by an outsider, with the exception of SE and Jetsons pricing which is way off.  A few of the others aren't exactly spot on either but those were the two worst ones for sure.  Plenty of titles omitted of course, I would have brought Myriad or Panesians into the discussion before ever mentioning Action 52.

Thoughts?

  • Thanks for writing it up Jone. I HATE clicking on gamespot.
  • So odd throwing Super Star Fox Weekend and DKC-CC up there but leaving out other she's rarities.
  • My dad told me a long time ago that my Ken Griffey Jr Upper Deck RC that was booking at close to $150 at the time was only worth what someone is willing to pay. Needless to say I was a little dejected but he wasn't wrong. In my opinion there's a point where games like Action 52, Cheetahmen 2, and tons of these unlicensed stinkers won't bring in the cash like the much better and overall superior titles like Little Samson, Flintstones, etc. Sure completists will always seek them out but quality will always shine through and the cream of the crop will continue to bring a premium. I don't see the hobby slowing down anytime soon because when it comes down to it cartridges will always hold their value and collectability better than disc based games because of how sturdy they are, there are much fewer of them and the NES, SNES, SMS & Genesis are the golden age of gaming
  • tfw no myriad

Definitely should've brought some unlicensed to that list. But then maybe I'm just an unlicensed junkie lol

While I agree with you, there are dozens of unlicensed games that are just as great or greater than many of the licensed titles.  The only thing that makes a game licensed (or not) is the license, and the proof is in Videomation (licensed in the USA, unlicensed in Japan / Famicom regions).

I've personally always felt that a lot of the licensed games at the top of the value list (FS2, Samson, etc) only make it there due to hype.  The games are okay, but there are others that are much better, and at much lower costs.

True rarities like NWC, the Starfox / DK competition carts, I could see them holding their value for numerous reasons.

  • These games and many more use to only cost $50-$60...
  • I refuse to read articles like this. I can't help but think that the authors know that the article is bullshit, but they don't care because the more people who get fired up about the article, the more people are likely to read it.
  • Each time an article like this comes out, game prices start to soar. It's awesome for the ones I already have, but sucks for the one I don't. Power Blade 2, Little Samson, and Dino Peak are CIB titles I'll probably never be able to afford.
  • It's funny seeing anything in the low hundreds on a list like that when there are so many games in that price range nowadays, and certainly not restricted to rares.
  • Happy to see SE in the three hole, that game has too much hype! Little Samson is a GREAT game and deserves to be up there!
  • Your former child star doctor who aged terribly is a horrible person in real life who doesn't want you to know about these 18 weird old games owned by a single mother that are worth a fortune - number 7's shocking transformation will make you furious!
  • I've seen worse articles. A seal CIB mint condition graded NES system is worth $3000 lets say. So the article writer see that and writes... "Your dusty old NES is worth GOLD $$$, so rare!!!"
  • My thoughts are, well I got the games with good gameplay on the list, I'm not collecting expensive junk.
  • I find the lack of the top rare Super Famicom games... disturbing.
  • Wait, unlicensed games were included and Action 52 was the one that made the list? lol
  • I like how they glossed over the grey NWC.
  • Can someone buy the author a dictionary and tell him to look up the word "fortune"? Sure NWC carts are worth a lot, but $150-500 for the other half of the list? CLICK BAIT HYPE!

On the plus side, someone could find Stadium Events, read this, seek one of us out, and be like "I heard it's worth a grand, but you can have it for $800."

  • Thanks for making it easy Jone. Brutal lack of research. I'm guessing someone hit google for all of 20 minutes to come up with that.
  • so why do they use CIB only when they feel like it? its a given that CIB is worth more then loose.. maybe they want to avoid sounding dumb by saying theres CIB SSFW or NWCs?
  • brutal lack of research? or clever misinformation for someone seeking a se? (where is that guy with the conspiracy theory pictures when we need him)

Or just asked from their neighbours son. 20 minutes on google efficiently would give more correct answers on the topic...

  • I guess 'a fortune' is a relative term. Not to mention, as mrsaturn said, there are so many games (especially if you include SNES) that are $100-$300 now.

As for the journalism, this is pretty much on par for the course, if not actually a little better. You guys have to remember you're all pretty much experts on this subject and most of you know what the last number of sales went for just from general interest in the hobby. Most articles these days are terrible if you are actually knowledgeable in the subject matter. Either that or they're coupled with twitter screen shots or other shit like that.
  • In before all those games go up in price by $1000, and before all other NES games go up by $20.
  • Holy Cow! I'm rich!!!!! Party time

  • I'm glad the information was posted in here so people don't have to actually read what passes for articles these days.

Am I the only one who thinks all of that rubbish should be buried at sea or shot to the moon and completely forgotten?

Never visit that internet website "Youtube.com" if it disgusts you what fluff passes for content these days.

Oh, youtube is great for listening to music, especially if I'm not sure I want to purchase any given album just yet. But I no longer use it for anything beyond that and movie trailers, really.
