Famicom Mario Bros without barcode?

I recently bought a CIB Famicom copy of Super Mario Bros. and noticed that I don't have a bar code on the back. I figured prehaps it was an early printing on the game because I know some of the first releases had a very plain back with no barcode. I looked online and I can find are versions with the barcode.

Was my box faked or are these non-code ones uncommon?

Comments

  • They probably didn't want it to be traced. Sorta like how we file the serial numbers off all of our handguns.
  • The barcode on back of the box would be the same across every copy. Wouldn't removing it be more suspicious?

    I think he was kidding.

Where did you buy your copy of SMB? I'll check mine when I get home, although I bought mine off eBay so it probably won't be of much help.
  • Hit Japan on eBay.
  • Here are pictures of what I've got:
