Glad to be here! Just got introduced to "new" NES games!
Hello World!
Like many (some?) of you, I grew up with Nintendo. I remember the NES and SNES when I was a wee lad. I remember playing those games and I kept them all... until I began graduate school. I then sold them all! Am I now upset that I sold them? Honestly, no. It's nice to have less clutter in your life That said, I recently got introduced to homebrews and repros and with the fact that new NES systems (such as Analogue NT) work on modern televisions and even offer HD... well, I was sold! I'm especially excited to be able to soon play awesome games such as
Armed for Battle
Swords and Runes
Zelda Outlands
etc...
I feel these new games have really breathed life into an old system! So, it's exciting to see that there's a vibrant community of fans here at nintendoage. Looking forward to awesome new games. In the meantime, if anyone wants to send me a list of the "best" repros and homebrews, I would love to hear it. My favorite gengres are RPGs and adventure games. However, I enjoy all "good" games. Happy gaming all!

Welcome to NintendoAge. This thread is a good place to start with NA.

Go through the list and try to post in every thread you can. Have fun.
I will likely pick-up BK2 at some point as well. My "problem" -I typically go for games that are complete.
Definitely check out The Mad Wizard, which has a demo available. Then look up KHAN Games, he makes good stuff. Then just keep looking! More stuff coming out all the time.

I was just going through my records and thought that your username looked familiar. Welcome to the site! Be sure to check out the Legends of Owlia, in addition to what others have suggested. There's a list over in the Brewery too of what all is out there. Feel free to PM me too if you want any other suggestions .

Thanks. Yeah, I think we need more games like Swords and Runes
I do want to play Legends of Owlia as well. Would you by any chance know exactly where that list is? I noticed that there are quite a few Zelda repros (not that I'm complaining) as well as Castlevania repros. I've heard a number of those are absolutely phenomenal...
The list of currently available homebrews is here: http://vintage.nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=22&threadid=122946
I'm not real big into hacks, so I can't speak about most of those. I still need to give Outlands a try one of these days.

Thank you, that's very useful. It would be cool, if you ever had the chance, to note if an edition was available as a LE -for example, I know that your game and Legend of Owlia both include a LE and regular. Is there also such a thread for repros? There are a lot of repros out there, and I've heard many are simply amazing...
I think I'm going to play Battle Kid I before II. I do understand it has an easy mode

Sadly, the list assumes a certain amount of time spent looking things up on one's own, or at least perusing eBay and wondering what this or that is. I have notes drawn up for a real guide about homebrews, but have been bogged down with another writing project lately (and of course game development!). Eventually, though, I'll get it a little further along, to the point where it will be useful in terms of seeing what the community has done over the years. Until then, if you have any questions (rarity, editions, production numbers, etc.), feel free to pm me. A good way to at least gauge what is out there is to use Ferris' aftermarket list, though it mixes repros into it so it can be tough to distinuish what is what. It can be found here: http://vintage.nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=29&threadid=103693
There is no such thread on currently available repros, for several reasons. The biggest reason is that anybody and everybody can make them relatively easy these days. Most cost around $30, and some sites sell hundreds of different games, all made on demand. That is also why brews who's creators have given permission for anyone to make copies of their games are not on the list. Hard to track all of that. A true list of repros would not be about who made them, but about the quality of the hack or translation itself.
Unless you are collecting ones by certain makers, then it might be best to just stick to ones that you're interested in playing (?). It's a touchy subject, and you can find old threads about the debate in Collector Corner usually. Seems like we just had (another) one. The extremes of it are that some people think that they are gold, and other people see about as much point in it as collecting used gum.
Most of the "limited" repro runs pop up in the Seller's Forum and sell out pretty quickly. Check regularly if you're on the hunt. Otherwise, if you're just wanting to get some made, check out fsped's list here: http://vintage.nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=6&threadid=163721 That used to be how a lot of homebrews were sold too, which caused many of us to miss out, and led to the creation of the currently available list.
As for Battle Kid, easy mode won't help ! I've been replaying it for a project, and it is beyond aggravating. Good luck!
