Best place to buy NES dust sleeves?

They don't have to be official, just look like the real thing.

I am looking at Ebay listings, and these Repro NES dust covers at the moment, but wondering if there's a better buy somewhere else:

  • 25 black sleeves for ~$12 is a very good deal. You won't find many people willing to sell them for less than .50 a piece.

I have around 100 that are available. A good mix of Nintendo brand ones, third party (black ones like above), and several Funcoland ones. I can't beat the price as stated above for 25 black sleeves, but if you want some genuine one and/or a mix of first/third party sleeves, let me know and we could work something out.
  • I got around 30 of them, but shipping would be a lot.
  • I think you're right, 1337bcc1991. That seems to be the best value deal around.

Think I'll give them a go and see how they are.
  • I actually have 30+ plain jane black ones that I was going to sell here...but I did not think anybody would pay $0.25 each plus shipping...maybe I am wrong...
  • nah they're worth nothing... I buy them locally for 5.00 for 20 (Nintendo Brand) from a Brick and Mortor used game store. I suggest making a buy/sell post locally and or shopping retro stores. Like guys were saying the price of the sleeve is negligible its the shipping that makes it sting. I have 45 extra but ya shipping..
  • Got back to 1997 and go in any average-sized home's basement; you'll find endless stacks belonging to kids who are now obsessed with N64/PSX
  • Those ones I posted a link to in the OP that come flat might be the way to go because they take up less space in shipping.

There's a retro games shop locally here that has a bunch of the original kind but they are all used in crap condition. All squashed and bent up. I'd rather order some new repros that haven't been used.

I got something like 450 of those replicas and I've been slowly replacing them with real covers as I find them cheap.

Can you go more into detail about what you find cheap about them?

I just don't see what could be much different, they are just dust sleeves.  Is the material not as sturdy?

I read his comment as he was replacing the generic ones whenever he found the actual Nintendo brand ones at cheap prices.

Exactly.   This way I don't feel the need to over-pay for whatever bulk lots are available just because I have 500+ NES games to sleeve up.

  • Ahh, OK sorry I misread the post. Understood now!
  • I like the ones from jimpoleshuk here on NA... His website is videogameboxprotectors.com

If you buy in bulk, the cost goes down, and he even has a discount code for NintendoAge members.

Yeah man, that's the website I linked to in the OP.

What is the discount code for NA members?

Thanks a lot, bro.  I'll place an order probably first week of October.

  • Not a problem

I guess I should mention that six out of 450 were defective (one of the hooking flaps was cut short and had no "hook"). The vendor offered to include replacements with my next order but I haven't placed one yet. It can be tedious to assemble that many but I started timing myself and plotting it like I was speed running a videogame and got really fast at it!

I'm happy with the materials. It's a little thinner and deforms a bit more easily, but it's close enough and cheap, which is exactly what I was looking for. If you fold the flaps back and forth enough times before assembling and are mindful of how you do it they should hold their form like an original.

My personal strategy has been to use real original sleeves on any game that's even slightly more complete than loose, then use the extra originals on all the loose games alphabetically, replacing these as I obtain them.

I also bought a lot of this guy's inserts and box protectors.

  • Thanks CZroe for your feedback on this.

My main need for dust sleeves is simply to protect the plastic shell of the games from wear when sliding them off and back onto a wooden shelf. So basically any cheap sleeve solution will do, but I prefer something that at least looks like the real thing.
