A List Of Gem Sequels Unreleased In North America

I'm trying to find some versions or sequels of good games that I previously didn't know existed, I'm wondering if we can collectively build a good list here so I know what to look for when I'm shopping. I'll get it started with a couple that interested me:

Super Mario Bros 2 - Famicom

Forbidden Siren 2 - PlayStation 2 (sequel to Siren, not released in North America)

Mother - Famicom (Earthbound prequel)

Contra Rebirth - Wii Download

Mega Man 9 - Wii download (NES style)

Mega Man 10 - Wii download (NES style)

Burgertime - Wii download (unique and updated play style)

Spy Vs. Spy 2: The Island Caper - NES (unreleased prototype)

Solomon's Key 2 - NES (unreleased prototype)

Star Fox 2 - SNES (unreleased prototype)

Mortal Kombat - Sega Master System

Mortal Kombat II - Sega Master System

Mortal Kombat III - Sega Master System

Ninja Gaiden - Sega Master System (unique)

Ninja Gaiden - Sega Mega Drive (unfinished, unreleased ROM)

Silent Hill: Playable Trailer - PlayStation 3 download (quickly cancelled and removed from store)

Pleae post any fun games that have versions or sequels on other consoles that people may not be aware of. I know Famicom had a lot of Konami sequels unreleased in North America.

  • I'm not sure I understand the question. Does Rondo of Blood count? I guess it was released on the PSP but you have to beat Fugly mode to unlock it.

There's also Megaman and the Wily Wars, the first 3 Megamans, 16 bit with an extra level at the end where you can use whatever combinations of weapons from the 3 games you want.

Sweet Home on the Famicom was said to be an influence for resident evil, so a spiritual prequel I guess?
  • I'm looking for some Famicom experts to post some sequels to games we know and love but aren't aware the sequel exists. And not just Famicom but any system where the sequel is not well unknown.

It's fire & ice, just got changed a bit:

    I'd say Ys 4 & 5 but I'm biased
  • Maybe you're getting into gaming recently and have been unaware of a lot of those titles, but quite a number of them are pretty well known at this point. I don't think many people that come to these forums don't know about Star Fox 2, or even Mega Man 9 and 10. Speaking of which, both those Mega Man's were released over here in North America, which goes against the thread title.

If I had to give any recommendations for someone that is unaware of imports or any games in a series that went unreleased in the US or even any other country, I'd suggest checking out the Goemon series across all platforms, which was localized for only a few games as Mystical Ninja over here in the US. I can still remember finding a Goemon fan site back in 1999 and freaking out at the discovery that there were tons of games in the series that never made it to the US. It was really easier to be unaware of so much back in those days when the internet still wasn't quite there just yet.

This, The all around best Castlevania game in my opinion.

EDIT, I think I just jumped in without really paying attention to what you were asking. Whatever, I'm gonna play some Castlevania.

  • Contra Rebirt, MM9 and MM10 were all released in the US.. no?
  • Warsong has many sequels under the Langrisser name;people seem to especially love Der Langrisser for the super famicom.
  • Kid Nikki 2 and 3 were Famicom exclusives. Also Spartan X2 (Kung Fu Master sequel).
  • Disney's Magical Quest 3 was a Super Famicom exclusive sequel (although it did come out for the GBA in North America).
  • Dragon Force 2. Amazing sequel to Dragon Force on the Saturn.

It a tactical strategy game and is amazing.
  • Mother the Earthbound prequel was released in the US also recently as Earthbound Beginnings for the Wii U.

This isn't true. Solomon's Key 2 was released in Europe and in North America it was released under the name "Fire 'n Ice".

  • New Ghostbusters 2 (NES & Gameboy) - PAL/JP release only
  • The rest of Shining Force III wasn't released in the states.
  • Adventure Island IV for the Famicom.

    Final Fantasy II

    Final Fantasy III

    The early Fire Emblem series

    Mother, and Mother 3

All of the good Satellaview games

All of the good Famicom Disk System games

All of the good 64DD games
  • I know very little about Famicom but Parasol Stars is a Rainbow Islands sequel that was a PAL release.
  • This is great, guys, thanks! Keep them coming!
  • Contra ReBirth was released in North America.
  • Super Genjin 2 AKA Super Bonk 2 on Super Famicom. Way better than the first title.
  • Gradius II on Famicom. I'm surprised no one else brought it up yet!

I own a bunch of 64DD stuff, not a single game was ever released in North America. 64DD was also Japan only. Only one was ever ported to another platform (Gamecube), Doshin the Giant 1. That game was also released in PAL territories.
  • Not exactly following the theme here, but I think Goonies is still worth mentioning as we got the second game but not the first (not counting PC10)

Is that the same version that came out on TG16 here in the states?

TG16 is the original Taito game, the NES version is a reasonable Ocean port of it.

  • Ganbare Goemon 2

    Ganbare Goemon 3

    Ganbare Goemon 4

    Super Bomberman 3

    Super Bomberman 4

    Super Bomberman 5
  • I saw somewhere that there's a sequel to Golgo 13, possibly on the Famicom?

Also it appears that Hydlide on NES is actually the third in the series, there 2 before that on computer based systems.
