Just found this amazing forum and figured I'd drop by to say hi. I am a lover of many things Nintendo as I'm sure the rest of you are, but above everything else I LOVE SHMUPS. Any other SHUMP lovers on the forum? If so, share some of your favorite ones for me if you would.

I've been playing Super Star Soldier quite a bit lately, diggin that one. Also a huge Parodius fan
Though you could never mention that word. It makes me cringe.
I enjoy vertical over horizontal when it comes to shooters though some of my favorite horizontal shooters would be Air Zonk & Lords of Thunder! Some of my favorite 2 player shooters are the original Dodonpachi & Ketsui. My top 5 i feel have remained the same for a while so i'll just share this pic since i had it handy! Besides Battle Garegga, all of these i love for the single player grind. Each just feels like an epic battle between you and an army. I know that could be said for most shooters but to me, these are some of the most satisfying and rewarding shoot em ups! What are some of your favorites?

I've been meaning to get Space MegaForce for a long time. Just haven't seen it in the wild... although I picked up MUSHA not too long ago. Fantastic game! Expensive as all hell though...
As far as my favorite SHMUPS go.... My favorite of all time is The Guardian Legend (which is a hybrid obviously). My favorite non-hybrid pure SHMUP is likely Thunder Force 4 on the Gens... Although I really enjoy the R-Type games on the SNES as well.
And in reference to ne$_pimp and the acronym SHMUP, I don't mind using it at all actually. In fact, I prefer it simply because it helps differentiate between the FPS and the old school variety that we love. Doesn't bother me...

Since I grew up with a SNES instead of MD/GEN you opened my eyes to a handful of gems. The last few years I've been playing PCE/TG-16 shooters heres a list of my favorites-

And God... everyone keeps asking me about TG-16 SHMUPS... I really need to get one. I'll just have to go the flash cart route as the system is just too expensive to collect for.
