  • SHHHHHHHH!!!!! Keep it quiet...we don't want the plebs to find out!

Anyone have a list of exclusives? I haven't found anything set in stone...it's all sort of guess work and using wikipedia. So far I think I have 135 exclusives listed for my want list...are there more out there?
  • Haha XYZ and Defaultgen trying to pull me out from the shadows; yeah I'm on the same boat as default still going for the xbox variants and almost complete but still keeping it hush hush on the final couple of them from a would be Canadian lol.

Otherwise a nice system to collect for and play LAN games with aside from the HALO games I CANNOT express how much FUN 8 player LAN is on Deathrow, fricken awesome speedballish sport where you can beat the whole team and win by the other team being incapacitated. And OUTRUN 2 8 player LAN the closest you can get to the experience of Daytona USA 8 player in a Dave N Busters. And of course 8 player LAN steel battalion which is glorious BTW.

Best xbox garbage experience is playing 2 player LAN with 2 Xbox 2 TV's next to each other which is not needed because it has local multiplayer

Have you picked up any cheap games on a whim and ended up enjoying them?

Now that you mention it, I suppose that is the one area where I've been lenient on. I will do blind buys on stuff that looks interesting. I suppose, I should have said that I won't buy stuff if I know it's crap, cause that just doesn't make sense to me. I did grab Blinx 1 and 2 as well as Grabbed by the Ghoulies... none of which I had ever played and all three of them turned out to be quite decent. I only paid a couple bucks for each of the Blinx games and $5 for Grabbed by the Goulies.
  • Been collecting for the system the past 3 years. I have about 70 games I bought all the pricey ones first. My cousin just got into the system and for $60 walked out of the retro store last week with a tons of games. OG Xbox games look great on a hd tv with component.
  • It's hard for me to justify grabbing games for it when it's cousin during that time period was the mighty PS2, (my second favorite all time system). I've thought about collecting for the PS2 for years as I have some nostalgia for it, but just have never really pulled the trigger. I never owned the original Xbox until recently I grabbed a complete console for 10$ from a couple looking to unload their "sons junk" at a flea market. And yes, the first time I picked the thing up I laughed at how ridiculously oversized it is. It feels like a dang Atari system from the 80's it's so oversized.

Cool, you could have done much worse for sure.

Can't find a pic of it unfortunately and don't know a whole lot except that it's the holy grail of OG Xbox as far as I'm concerned. IIRC it was some kind of online exclusive you could only buy with community "points". You can see it in the darkwatch.org store on internet archive:

    https://web.archive.org/web/20050...

Is there a PS2 version of that Coffin Edition? It doesn't say on the website linked wether it's an Xbox exclusive or not. Also, any other links with info on it?mi tried google but I only found a few websites with very little info.

  • Problem with the xBox is the hardware, will it even be usable 10 years down the line?

In my experiences, the consoles are really hit or miss. I even have a game (a harder to find game, too) that appears to be already suffering from disc-rot.

    Yippie.
  • @babywuchki I'm pretty sure it wasn't exclusive to the Xbox and there is a PS2 version as well. Same as the darkwatch T shirt bundle also had a PS 2 version as well. @ snowsauce what game is having disc rot might have a spare one

  • Does anyone know what Xbox games came with two discs? My Shenmue II case has a huge Microsoft employee sticker on it that won't come off -_-...so I need to replace the case.

yeah I'm wondering that myself. Mine opens the disc tray only when it feels like it. And it's my Xbox that I got new back then, always took good care of it.

Retro gaming 101 learn to fix systems yourself. My Xbox is a frankenstien of parts I used from other systems. They can be found cheap enough to do it and they're easy to work on. Xbox isn't the only system to break down over time I've had to fix a few Sega Genesis and SNES in my day. A minty Xbox may be worth something down the road when theres a shortage.

    Mechassault 2 limited edition.

  • My Xbox works perfectly, it's my Xbox 360 that needs a 4th replacement.

Great thanks, and it looks fairly cheap too...I should be able to grab it at the local game store.

Problem is, the xBox has a lot of moving parts.

Plus, doesn't it require some special disc drive? I've been told that any old drive won't work.

It's far more complicated to fix than an NES.

  • Love the original X-Box. Especially being a fan of the Dead or Alive series.

    Wow, yeah I did.

    Sorry about that.

  • Does anyone have a complete list of "only on Xbox" games? Can't seem to find a definitive list.

The only moving part is the disk drive. It's a contained unit and easy to swap out with only 4 screws same goes for the hard drive. There are 3 disk drives for the orignal xbox. The earliest model is the tomson which is prone to failure. I'm not sure what the other one is it's been a while. The 3rd disk drive is the samsung which is the best of the 3 and the newst model. If you do a search online there are pictures and more info on what to look for. Older models have a time capasitor on the mother board which tends to leak fluid and can cause damage over the long term but theres videos on how to remove it. The newest models don't have the time compasitor. Xbox's are so cheap and easy to find it's not hard to swap out parts. Lots of videos on youtube. If I can do it anyone can.

  • Got Conker Live & Reloaded in great shape for $3 just a week ago. Missing the manual though.

    ...and the disc drive.

...and the GPU fan (later eliminated).

Yeah, if you're going to be semi-serious about collecting original Xbox, it's worth it to learn some of the repair basics. The biggest flaw is the crappy DVD disc drives that crap out and fail, but at least they're also a super easy fix. Just need the right Torx tools(#'s 10, 15, and 20) to properly open up the case and the DVD drive can simply be swapped out(with another Xbox-specific drive, not a generic one). No additional modding required.

That said, finding good, working disc drives is getting harder and harder to do. More and more drives are failing all the time. I bought a minty Xbox with a terrific Samsung drive 2 years ago, and it's recently started to not read discs...

My Xboxes(4 of 'em) are all modded, which seems to be the only way to really guarantee extended life of the system for years to come. Might have to forgo the DVD drive altogether eventually.

  • Anyone know if there are plans to add Xbox to the database? I can add records but I can't add the actual system itself. I'd gladly help out if someone did that part for us.
  • Found Shenmue II and Star Wars: Republic Commando both complete for $3 at my local music shop. I wasn't feeling Shenmue so I traded it for a copy of Legend of Legaia.
