Best NES Mario VGA Gradings EVER EXISTING

I've recetly recieved a mario 3 VGA 90+! I was looking at getting a mario 1 VGA 90 but I don't know if one evn exists?

Does anyone know of the highest VGA gradings that exist for NES mario games? Including any games with mario in them.

I also have a DR. Mario 90+ and a Donkey Kong Classics 90.

  • Hi welcome to the boards. You can email VGA directly and ask for population reports yourself, you are entitled to 3 per day. It also is going to depend on variation. For instance, on SMB1, there is going to at least be the cardboard hangtab version, a black seal and a white seal version (in order of release, from most expensive to cheapest).
  • yeah what jone said.   at least five.

    sticker

    HT

    round non rev a

    round rev a

    oval

    There's a 90+ of the oval.
  • Pretty sure that Paul has the highest graded SMB 1.
  • so no 95s exist? Ive seen a 95 mario 3, and ive heard theres a 95 mario 2 what do you think a mario 1 90 is worth?

Theres an 85+ Gold on EBAY right now for C $3,761.99 and a Mario 2 for C $6,628.24 which seem way overpriced?
  • Thanks Jonebone. Will do
  • Personally, I wouldn't pay that much. People are just constantly trying to jack up the prices. I bought a graded Super Metroid a few years ago for $600. The same guy currently has one up on ebay, same grade, for $4,999.

I like to use sites like that to compare prices and what I'm willing to pay for something.

    TRUTH

  • I would laugh so hard if that SMB1 VGA 10 sold for more than a VGA 90 or more copy.

  • So i go on EBAY today to check whats new and what do i see..... yep Pauls Super Mario Bros VGA 10 for $5000.00 lol

At first I thought it was funny, then I thought... it could actually sell!!

The right rich fanboy might need this iconic copy for his own collection
  • Might? More like must!

I saw this too. It will never sell for that. I really don't get what gets into these egomaniacs' heads to think that someone is going to spend $5k on a graded copy of the most common game in existence. Sure, it's in very nice shape, but in no way, worth $5k! Just a quick search of Ebay yields all sorts of other sealed games with people asking thousands and thousands of dollars and they sit for months and months and never move. Don't get me wrong, anything can happen and sure, that random rich person could make an impulse purchase, but lets be honest, it's not likely, whatsoever.

With that said, people should just keep re-submitting their same games to the VGA grading company over and over. You can, literally, open a game they've graded, send it back and they will re-grade it with a completely different score. Just keep sending the same game back over and over again until you get a grade you like and you can charge more. Seriously, that company has no set standards or rules. The only rule they have is, take the customers' money.

that copy will never sell for much, you're right, but various mario 1's have sold for above that 5k if the right condition and/or variant.

  • Is that true about the re submitting and getting a better grade?

Have you ever seen any proof of this? Just curious

I don't remember, exactly, where I read it, but a couple of people did it, just as an experiment, and the same games received different grades after being sent in again. I, honestly, don't recall if the grades were better the second time, but they were, indeed, different.

You're completely wrong here, they will not assign a 'completely different grade'. I'm sure that most of the time, if something like that is done the game in question will be more likely to get the same grade, and if it gets a different grade, it will be just one step over or under the original grade, and that's simply because a grade is always given through an arbitrary process, even if the process must rely on objective observations (at best). The people that have been using their service for a significant time know almost exactly what a game will grade for, and most of the time they guess this on a range of two consecutive grades (this will grade 80+/85).

If there's one thing that VGA did in sealed games collecting, it is clarifying and setting standards on the condition of games. Not that their standards are immune to critics, but they surely got accepted by the users and sealed collectors quite quickly, cause they were consistent enough in their methods.

I'd sooner believe collectors jumped on the VGA bandwagon because of their pretty labels, official sounding name and the previous lack of a "decent" sealed game grading company. Just the fact hardly anyone has attempted to verify whether VGA is even credible or not until now just goes to show how far most collectors think.

The vast majority of experienced sealed collectors don't need VGA to tell them their game is authentic.  I don't have any professional experience other than being a sealed collector for many years now, and I'm smart enought to know whether a game is authentic or resealed the vast majority of the time.  Exceptions are stuff I don't collect, like PAL, Famicom, newer disc stuff, unlicensed, etc.

The main criticism I would have with VGA is them overstepping their bounds and trying to grade / authenticate prototypes, "New" unused games (Qualified), etc.  That is the one area you could try to undermine their credibility.  But in terms of authenticating a sealed game, all you are asking for is an expert opinion anyway.  No different than a signature authority telling you whether an autograph is legit or not... when in reality the only true way to verify would be to watch the signature happen in person yourself.

Did I ever say that I expected to sell it for 5K, NOPE.

I don't appreciate the egomaniac label especially coming from some new member who has not idea who am I, what I'm about or anything about me other than I listed something I truly cherish for what is an insane assinine amount.

without getting into my personal life, let's just say I am in need of raising some cash, and will be listing many other video game items this weekend.  The Mario listing is simply an attention getter, and if someone decides to make me an offer I can't refuse that'll be a bonus!

Should you like to continue this discussion, feel free to PM me, as I don't think this line of discussion would be positive or healthy for the NA.

Clearly somebody has no sense of humor, whatsoever.

  • Collectors are making deals all the time for games that are thousands of dollars just because games are sitting on eBay doesn't mean private deals aren't being made it happens all the time.

you dont get it?  the answer is in your own response. not to mention the inaccuracy in your second paragraph kind of discredits any opinion you have on vga or sealed games.
