VGA re submitting and re grading

Ive heard of people breaking their games out of vga cases re submitting them and getting better grades.

Is This true ? Has anyone personally experinced this and if so what game and grade.

Would be very interested in knowing

  • If you look at Sealed Game Heaven's website (I think that's the name), they have threads devoted to these types of things

I do know that you can resubmitted them still encased if you feel that the grade is wrong and they will give it another viewing.
  • This has happened not to me it's proof enough that vga is a scam/ waste of money
  • Thanks Dr. Robbie ill check that out
  • Probably a very low likelihood and just a waste of money for regrading. Only exception would be things graded around 2009 or earlier perhaps, before they added the + scale. Back then it was 80, 85, 90, so some of those may regrade out as 80+ to 85+ for example.
  • It's all based on someone's opinion, so I guess I could see it happening. I wouldn't recommend it though, seeing as you could just be wasting money for the same grade or get screwed over with a lower grade. Plus you risk damaging the game while breaking the case. Can't see more than a 5 point swing.
  • Is this more or less likely to work at a small operation like VGA than a big one like the coin or card graders? I thought I had heard of it happening with very specific coins, but may not be remembering right.
  • just shows its some jackass with a lot of pexiglass, fancy stickers and superglue. Anyone want to start a new company? AOVG
  • well im thinking I have a mario 2 graded silver 85 - recent copies sold on ebay around $600-700....

but if i can get one grade higher it becomes a gold 85+ ebay pricing around $2500

    could be woth it?
  • I dont think a 85+ mario 2 is worth anything near 2500. Someone correct me if im wrong. Im thinking 900-1200$.
  • well thats whats being asked anyway C $2,499.00. seems crazy to me too
  • Yeah you learn quickly that eBay asking prices don't mean a thing. I can put up a paper clip for $10k. Doesn't mean every paper clip is worth $10k, ya know?

Not trying to be rude at all, just making the point that sold listings are what to go off of.
  • OP - this is your second VGA thread in 2 days, most VGA discussion happens here:

  • I've seen two games with the same grade that, in my opinion, are noticeably different in condition. Typically 64 games for some reason.
  • there's definitely an opportunity to increase the game grade in certain instances. I have seen this first hand and talking to other collectors as well. Its not so much VGA's fault as it falls more on the submitter IMO. For example, do not rely on VGA alone to clean your games as they will gently wipe them vs. yourself who can put more muscle into it   Another one would be a price sticker and the submitter removing them.

It does happen along with other things people do for the increase in the amount they can sell for. If it happens in the uk if definitely happens here.
