PSA: Limited Run Games Are Live 10am and 6pm EST

https://limited-run-games.myshopify.com

I grabbed a copy of each on the vita since they are games I actually want, but I don't see these being super flippable. OWH and TWA are each getting a run of 5000 and 4000 respectively, and furthermore LRG is allowing people to order 2 copies at a time. I think they do this when they get nervous of not selling out in 24 hours and they hope people buy extra intending to sell on eBay.

On another note, My Life in Gaming did an interesting video interviewing LRG and I think it's worth a look if you haven't already.

Comments

  • Got the ones I wanted
  • Ill keep picking up the rpgs but I can't see getting every game. The ability to flip for an increased price is long gone, the library is already too big to keep attracting people that want a full set.
  • I think I might make an official LRG thread for announcements, discussion etc. before the next release.

I still have bought every single one for every single platform that's been released. Except for the PS4 copy of Saturday morning RPG that I'm trading my extra breach and clear for once I get it out of storage.

I think they will become less and less collectible because they're starting to turn them out at a faster rate, however I still like what they're doing and will still choose to support them unless they start putting out some real turds.
  • Ordered all of them. The first one I got from them was Oddworld for PS4, unfortunately I missed out on the PSV version and everything before that. I probably won't ever have a complete set because the early ones are really expensive, but I'm a big fan of keeping games alive in a physical format.

Agreed. It was much easier when it was 1 game a month, and I know I won't be able to keep up. It is cool that they are offering protective cases along side the games, but it's not cool that they increased shipping by $.25. Greedy.

And if they do start churning out a couple games a months, it probably would prove wise to start a dedicated thread.
  • Agreed about the rate of releases. $50/month for a PS4/Vita release is doable, but you'd have to spend $150 this month alone to get a copy of every release. That's just a bit much I think and is not sustainable. They mentioned that their business model relies on selling out every single copy right away because that money funds the next release, etc. At least, that is the reason they gave the allowance of people to buy two copies, ensuring a scalping market. If they keep putting out 3 or more releases a month, they will stumble and fall at some point.

I'd prefer quality over quantity, but their business model kind of screws them in the growth department as the whole idea is to keep stock low, hence limiting their potential sales and profit. The only way for them to grow is to release more games. At some point, they either need to branch out into other money-making areas (selling accessories and protectors is a good start) or else they will dilute their brand gimmick to the point of irrelevancy.
  • I'm cool at the rate of release now, but I'm also cherry picking what I want. I'm mainly sticking to Vita releases I want to play or games that "make sense" to me on PS4 like Oddworld. Indie games, especially RPGs, I love having on Vita. I picked up both Vita games and double dipped on OWH for trade if I miss on something I want down the road. Vita has such a hardcore following it's pretty crazy especially considering it's region free. I also like supporting the indie devs who get to fulfill their dreams of having a physical copy. I think we'll eventually see some games rise in price and some just stay level depending upon their gameplay, quality, and mass appeal. A release like Xeodrifter is one I think will pop down the line since it's a Metroidvania and that genre has a pretty rabid fanbase. It'll be interesting if some devs reprint these games too since they can through other distributors like Fangamer if they so choose, but LRG won't do reprints.

I'm cool with a dedicated thread as well.
  • I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt like 4 releases at once is overwhelming.

I understand they need to keep releasing games as it lends to the nature of their company's success. But man over $100 is tough. It seems like they are upping their monthly release threshold, which is great for them, but makes the complete set collectors cry on the inside.

We are talking about a business model where it's assured that people will be unsatisfied, and I suppose this all boils down to speculation as a collector. It's interesting! Btw, I'm planning to keep my lrg collection going because why not
  • I'm cool with a dedicated thread. I managed to snag a copy of each game on both Vita and PS4.

I don't intend to flip any LRG games I buy, but I could see that these games would certainly be more flippable a few months down the line, especially during the Christmastime price hikes. For example, you could get Oddworld: New and Tasty a week or two after release for $35 or so for either the Vita or PS4, but now you're looking at $70 each at the very least.
  • Second batch is live.
  • Got OWH ps4 which was the only one I wanted, I too cherry pick LRG and I don't own a vita so those are of no use to me as I do open and play the ones I get. The only one I missed I'd still like to have was Saturday Morning RPG but those scalper prices ugh.

October will be good with TWO Shantae games coming and one that's still unannounced (rumors revolve around Salt and Sanctuary) and far as I have seen Volume is the only Vita release.

Oh and yes I also would like to see a dedicated LRG thread as well. I can add what I dig up as well since I'm lurking the forums and twitter over there almost everyday.
  • I'm surprised that neither game sold out. Still, they did up the number printed (4000 and 5000) so that may be why. Myself, I'm looking most forward to "Thomas Was Alone", the game looks amazing
