The Official NintendoAge Weekly Contest 2016 Tournament Thread
23 COMPETITORS....3 WEEKS OF GAMING....3 WILL EMERGE AS VICTORS
TIME TO GET YOUR GAME ON!!!!
TOURNAMENT STARTS October 23, 2016
That's right, the moment you have all been waiting for...the 2016 NintendoAge Weekly Contest Tournament is finally upon us! For the last 8 months, NintendoAge users have faced-off in the weekly contests for the chance to participate in the year-end tournament of 2016. The contests featured some solid gaming, great rivalries, incredible scores, and all out fun. Now, it's time for the top 24 players from the last 8 months to compete head-to-head to decide who will be the top gamers of 2016. Here's how everything is going work out:
- The tournament will be a three-tiered competition which will see players from the top of the leaderboard face each other (Tier 1), players from the middle of the leaderboard face each other (Tier 2), and players from the bottom of the leaderboard face each other (Tier 3). You will only compete against players within your own tier. There will be 8 competitors in each tier this time around.
- The tournament will be three rounds long and consist of the quarterfinals, semifinals, and the finals.
- Each round of the tournament will be an elimination style. Players will try to achieve the highest score (or lowest score depending on the rules) on the game selected by me for the week. For the quarterfinals, the top 6 scores from each tier will advance to the semifinals, meaning the bottom 2 scores in tiers 1 and 2 will be eliminated from the tournament and the bottom score in tier 3 will be eliminated. For the semifinals, the top 4 scores from each tier will advance to the finals, meaning the bottom 2 scores in each tier will once again be eliminated from the tournament. For the finals, the remaining 4 players in each tier will compete for three prizes. The top 3 players in each tier (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers) at the end of the finals will win a prize. The top 3 players in each tier (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers) will also earn an award icon on NA With 4 players facing off in the finals in each tier, the competition should be fierce as everyone competes for a prize. Also, everyone eliminated in the tournament, including the 4th place finishers in each tier in the finals, will be entered into a drawing to win a prize.
GAMES
Three games will be played in the tournament, one for each round. All games on the list will be reflective of the six genres established in the contests (Action/Platformer, Arcade, Beat 'Em Up, Puzzle, Shoot 'Em Up/Shooter, and Sports). The game for each round of the tournament has been handpicked by guillavoie and myself and they will not be games that have been played in the Weekly Contests this year. Here's where it will get interesting. The rules for each game will vary for each tier. For example, if the game selected was Castlevania 3, the top tier will play by the 1-life rule, whereas the other 2 tiers may get to play until their last life. The reason for this is that the players in the top tier have proven to be some of the top gamers on the site and I figure it will be fun to challenge the elite players and see what they can do with each game in the tournament. Below is the list of games being played in the tournament this year.
Round 1 game (10/23/16 to 10/30/16): Mario Bros.
Round 2 game (10/30/16 to 11/6/16): Palamedes
Round 3 game (11/6/16 to 11/13/16): Adventure Island

This will be "fun".
I will be taking part nonetheless.
But I am hereby forfeiting of any physical prize I could earn in the tournament.
Brazil customs is something I don't feel like messing with, and packages have this odd habit of "magically disappearing" either at customs or at post office, so it will be better if they are sent only to people who actually have a chance to actually receive the package where they were sent.

SInce you confirmed here, I'll skip on sending you the PM. That sucks about Brazilian customs. If you happen to win a prize, I will either toss it back in the prize box or pass it on to another available competitor.

I'll take any of those, thank you

It will be for the better. I am still waiting for a package with 6 Genesis games I bought back in 2009 to show up.
Now, to figure out how to stop sucking at Mario games in less than a week... Something I couldn't do in more than 28 years.
No idea how I fare at Palamedes either, but odds are I won't even make to the quarterfinals. I am really bad at Mario games.
where you say the games should be available in stores, are you saying no emulators allowed?
I guess he'll have to grin and bear it.

Emulators are allowed. Actually, I'm going to remove that statement about games being easily available at stores and online as it is confusing and not necessary. I reused some wording from a previous tournament where I revealed the games as each round unfolded.

I'm ordering all three games today. It might not be required, but I want to use real hardware in the tournament. It just feels right to do it that way.

Ah. I was about to ask that.
I think I only have Adventure Island in cart form, and ordering them online right now would mean that, IF they get delivered, I'd see the other two games in about... 90, 100 days from now.
Definitely not in time for the tournament.
I wanted in 2nd tier!
How did I not participate for probably half the tournament and still end up in 8th place damnit!!!

In asking myself the same damn question! I am however, looking forward to destroying you

Which is sad and good at the same time. Because my A60 adapter only runs on my Phantom System NES clone, which is a pretty darn good clone, save for the fact that it uses Genesis like gamepads.
I am already bad at Mario Bros. Adding a handicap in form of Genesis gamepads would be terrible.

It hurts to hear that I'm not elite at the NES, but I do recognize that those guys up above me did dominate the games.

Holy shit..... I'm gonna be able to tell everyone I'm an elite NES player for at least another 2 weeks
Adventure Island is gonna be a bitch, and I won't be surprised if it's one life for tier 1.
At least I have all the games though
EDIT: Bimmy, this is my confirmation btw
Tablew/chairs is one of the best players on the site and all I can say is I'm glad I'm not competing against him in my tier.
Tablew is insanely good.
If he had played more on the contest, he would be a serious contender for the 1st place at tier 1.
His skills are baffling.
We just don't know if Tablew or Red will be 1st. But both of them will be at the top.

What's funny is when i saw the post I thought i'm glad i'm not playing against bea but really i'm just glad to have made it at all

Pfft... I am only half decent at a few games and at games I somehow figure out how they work, like Lunar Pool, Paperboy and Mighty Bomb Jack. Those I could exploit hard.
Other than that, I am a pretty average gamer who manages to beat games here and there.
You are way better than me at getting high scores.
The most amusing thing about this is poor skinny will have to grind a puzzle game.
I guess he'll have to grin and bear it.
Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Fucking, arcade, puzzle game and no shoot em up. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck.
Edit: nevermind, just, fuck.
