Nintendo Switch Collecting...

  • Won't get the console till much later. For now, just the games I wanna play.
  • I think for me it depends on on much it is at launch. If it's 300 or less, I will probably buy it and start collecting for it, and I'll trade my LRG games for switch games..

I like how the switch looks and think it's great they're going back to cartridges and the fact we have an actual controller now. I might get one on Black Friday next year or the year after but like I said I still have backlog longer than the Statue of Liberty.

That backlog though... I still have games I wanted to play on PS2 towards the end of that generation. lol. Not to mention all of the Classic plastic stuff that I have picked up in the last few years that were not a part of my original collection.

The main thing drawing me into the switch at the start is BOTW, huge Zelda fan, and I think it will make the purchase worth it... If not I'll do like I did with Wii U and trade it off until something I want to play comes out. My original Wii U was on Craigslist for just a day or two before I found someone looking to trade me, He told me he had a nes and afew games The games he told me he had roughly covered the price of the Wii U, so I traded him straight up. he told me that he had thrown afew more games he found in the tub, and when I got home I found around 30 extra games in the tub including Chrono Trigger, Super Metroid, ect... The extra games he threw in made the trade come out to +$650 in my favor, but to him they were just old games he would never play again.
  • Ill go day 1. Get what I want to play then start building it out pending prices. See if it's in the 40.00 60.00 or more range.
  • I will in 5-6 years when the titles can be picked up for $5/$10/$15.
  • Day one for me lol, super pumped

That's what I was thinking at first, but I'm too much of a sucker for new technology. I'll buy afew games at retail, then pick up most of the games at Garage Sales for cheap. That's what I did with my Wii stuff. I bought Mario Kart at retail, and got all the other games used. actually, I got afew at K-mart when they were on Clearance for $2, but I wouldnt consider that retail.

  • I'm not even sure if I will buy the Switch, so "collecting" is a bit out of the question.

And if it is a current console, I don't really feel like it's "collecting" unless you have a massive collection.
  • Possibly. Not Day One though. I want to make progress on my 3DS and PSP collection first.

Yeah don't get me wrong I will buy some retail priced games that I "really" want but I usually always just give it a month and wait until someone is selling in a local ad for half the price.
  • I'll have one on launch day and will be collecting/playing all exclusives, like I did for the Wii and WiiU. I'm really excited for this system.
  • I will get it as soon as possible but probably not day one. I'm never disappointed by Nintendo systems.

Field destroy was always the dumbest thing ever. They didn't want to waste time or effort shipping this stuff or donating it, so managers had to destroy and penny out anything from guides to accessories to even games :/ Shit was asinine.

You can probably thank the IRS, if you needed to point the finger at anybody, I'd bet.

Wouldn't surprise me, at all, if the stringent "field destroy" behavior all comes back to being able to prove write-offs.

You are probably right. It does make sense. Such a bummer to see and be a part of though.

That's the way I roll as well. I don't need to be first in line - Just like to get them when the price is nice.

The beauty of the Wii U was that if you got in at the right time and watched, you could get most games new for less than $15.

That's what I'll try to do with the Switch. Get the games I want to play right away and then pick up the clearance games I want as they are clearanced out.

Knowing what I know now I wish I did that for Wii U and 3DS, but I plan on doing this for the Switch.

I was able to do that with Smash Brothers, and Hyrule Warriors, but never saw that good of a deal on anything else. Can you teach us your tricks? lol.

Toys R Us? thats where I scored those two, almost right as they came out.

Anyone here planning on collecting from day one? Lets keep our fingers crossed that Gamestop keeps the cases for these games!

If this is still an issue for you and you don't care if it isn't from Nintendo, there's multiple alternatives out there with the GPD being one of the latest and highly recommended systems for portable gaming.

Had this bad boy for more than 2 months and LOVE it.

do you Americans have Shoppers Drug Mart? I've found stuff like Lego city and fortune street for 10 bucks when they were new, vs 60 everywhere else. I've also found stuff at Loblaws like Metroid other m and Sin and Punishment for 5 each new

Edit: forgot we were talking about Wiiu not Wii
  • I'll be waiting several months on the Switch to see how things shake out. Although, I like the Wii-U, I already got fooled on that. I'm not buying a Switch for 4 or 5 good first party Nintendo titles and a bunch of junk with poor third party support.

I've looked into getting one of these, theyre definitely not a bad deal. This might be a little off topic but these things look extremely cool as well http://pgslab.com/ it runs android and windows at the same time   all the power.....

Anyways, i think portable gaming in general is taking a neat turn. I may not get into the switch right away (personally left dissapointed with my wii u) but i have high hopes for it.
  • I will buy the Switch day one for Zelda BOTW, any Mario games that come out, and future 1st party offerings, and pick up whatever 3rd party or indie titles tickle my fancy. But I'm not buying cheap shovelware simply because it's sitting on the shelf at half the usual AAA price. I went through enough of that crap during the Wii years.

Also to anyone who sit and play the waiting game and pick up the games after the prices get slashed and they hit the bargain bin, well you're the reason why companies like Nintendo struggle. Without the early adopters, Switch, and future 3rd party support, is as good as dead.

Also the fact that the Wii-U has some great first party titles that never sold in large quantity, and the long term collectibility of nintendo, don't expect a bargain bin smorgasbord of new and used Wii-U loot. Prices may stagnate a bit below retail for a bit, then they will only rise over time. And don't expect to ever pay less than $100 for a complete Wii-U + Gamepad and bundled accessories, because there is not going to be large scale price cutting and once existing stock is gone from store shelves and warehouses, that is it.

So I will be a day one supporter of the Switch just as I did for Wii-U, but I have no desire to pick up anything that isn't worth playing. I've got 30 years worth of backloggery between Atari, Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Turbografx/PCe, and even went out of my way to pick up all the Ratchet & Clank and Little Big Planet games for my rarely used PS3 Slim, of which all but the first LBP title I have barely touched.

The fact I devote so much time to retro collecting that I don't have the time to play through genuinely good titles and longer games means I'm not adding anything to the backloggery unless I plan on actually playing it.

I will support Nintendo as a hardware and software developer as long as they remain in business. If the Switch flops and nintendo goes third party, I'll just go full time retro gamer.

So I really hope that fans give the Nintendo Switch a chance, and anyone who is a fan of their back catalog needs to support this wonderful company for better or worse. If the Switch fails, it is the fault of all the fence sitters playing the "let's wait and see" game. It seems like Nintendo has all their ducks in order this time around and I am looking forward to future developments. Please help them succeed by making the Switch!
