I guess it is time we start neglecting our wives, kids, girlfriends, pets...

If you thought the SD2SNES and the 64drive were expensive, think twice. Totally worth it though :v

  • Wow that is amazing.
  • Man, that is super awesome, but I feel like $500 is way over the top :/ (USD price with shell and shipping)

Don't get me wrong, compared to the games themselves it's a steal, but it seems really high compared to even the most expensive Everdrives...

They are probably chargibng as much as they can to make up for R&D costs/time so it is understandable though, and with Neo geo it's kind of charge what you want, people will buy anyways.

If anything maybe it will get cheaper over time.
  • IT's neo geo, what do you expect. This is the same system where a common game runs $100. IF you want Neo on the cheap, you either emulate or get a 161 in 1 MVS multicart.

LOL it wouldn't be the authentic Neo Geo experience if it didn't cost an outrageous amount.
  • I love how you have to buy the cartridge shell seperately
  • START neglecting?!
  • I just dont have the connection to this system like I do NES and SNES...don't get me wrong, it has its place in the gaming lexicon and the Metal Slug titles are great run n guns, but (unless I had some inheretance or won the lottery) I don't think I'd spring for it.

Sorry, I forgot some of us started neglecting them long ago, haha!
  • I want it. If it dropped to around $300 I'd probably get one.
  • That's simply amazing.

If I still had my MVS I would be all over this.

But alas, I don't so emulation it is

That's how almost all Everdrives are. Shells have to be customized to allow a SD card slot, so you can usually opt to modify your own, or buy one already modified.

They're nifty! I don't think this item is specifically an Everdrive, but looks like the same principle. But yeah, I usually modify my own instead of paying extra.
  • I'm so glad these are starting to exist

Is it true the NEOSD's game load time (from sd card to FPGA) takes like 3-5mins?
  • Wow... definitely a must-have if you pick up a cheap cabinet with an otherwise crappy game.

Also distinctly raises the appeal of the 1-slot machines.

Makes sense to me. People with arcade machines have no use for a shell. Just load it up, plug it in (adapt it?), and never remove it.
  • Will this work on an NEO GEO AES home system?
  • Using flash instead of sdram is an interesting choice. Is there a spec of how many minutes it takes to burn a game?

    not without an adapter
  • Bummer...

They should make an AES version

No, it's MVS only. Given how complex the NEOSD is, I for one really doubt it would work in a typical MVS converter. It might work with the Daedalus converter, but that thing costs almost as much as the NEOSD. If you have an AES, you'd be better off getting a CMVS instead.

That is puzzling. I thought it was strange already for the Everdrive series when older products like Bung Professor SF7 and Doctor V64 / V64jr used RAM. In something like this with large ROM sizes and where expectations might be set by the instant switching of the multi-game machines, I'd expect speed to be a priority.

I thought the hardware was pretty much identical other than the size of the pin connector?
  • I mean it's expensive but it's 2 pcb and when you take into account how expensive neo geo games it starts to look like a bargain.

I'm sure an AES version will come out eventually. I just got a non working red cab for free so this really appeals to me but I have to get the cab working first.
  • Aren't there like a half dozen multicart options for the Neo Geo?

Nah there are cheap games in the $30-$50 range...world heroes, puzzle bobble, fatal fury.

I suppose if you consider $30-50 to be a cheap purchase, and for the record the AES versions are not even that cheap (more like $70 and up).  If that were any system other than the Neo-Geo those would be considered mid-tier titles.

For the systems library they are cheap - in the grand scheme of games maybe not. AES is a whole different monster for sure!

except the flash cart is for MVS, so what does AES value have to do with it?

I only mentioned AES because you had brought it up.
