Did you ever put the SNES dust covers on top of the game when you were younger?

I remember a lot of people use to do this including me as it fit perfectly on top and keep it from getting lost. However it probably left a mark on the label but as a kid you don't give a damn.

  • Back then, I always used the covers whenever I had them (some of them have disappeared throughout the years). I thought (at the time) it protected the games and didn't realize until you mentioned it now that it left marks on the labels. I didn't notice that, but as a kid, never paid attention to those details.
  • Sure did. In fact I still do it to this day with most games.
  • I probably stopped doing it when they switched to paper labels without the plastic coating (around 1995).

I wouldn't know if I still had all mine since SNES games stopped including them after just a few years. They didn't include any dust covers for at least half the SNES' retail life.

Habit, probably. Been doing it for 20+ years.

  • Ive never seen anyone do this before. I did however think dust covers were for rich kids back in the day.
  • We never had any dust covers here in Europe.
  • Wow I totally forgot about this, I did a few times but I always thought it might be scratching the label a bit.
  • I never did that and never heard of anyone doing that. I only had 1 dust cover growing up since 95% of my SNES games were bought secondhand back in the day. I got a SNES in 1995, was late to the game, and by that point new games stopped including them anyway.
  • I always did, to keep from losing it.

    x2

  • I always did too, didn't really do anything to the labels that I can recall. Kinda still do this, but that's if I had one to do that too.
  • Did it all the time.
  • My friends immediately threw away the dust covers, so nope never had this experience.
  • Yep. I used to do that all the time, although when they stopped including the dust covers with games the supply dwindled and thus so did the frequency of using them. At one point, I ended up just putting my dust covers in a box, since I only had about half of what I needed to sleeve my collection.
  • Did that all the time back in the day, but never again. Nowadays, I don't even touch the labels with my fingers, lest my filthy bodily oils taint their glossy splendour.
  • No but I wear socks on my hands so I know where they are on me.
  • I did this with whatever game I was playing, absolutely.
  • Always done this and no ill effects on my labels.

Also good for an everdrive as keeps dust out of the SD slot.
  • No, never, in fact, I've never seen it nor even noticed it fits on top until I saw this thread.

And I won't do it, the idea of scratching the label messes with my mind.
  • Yes, it was very common.
