Using SCART on CRT?

Hey Everyone,

Tomorrow i am finally picking up a nice Sharp 27 inch flat panel. No sony Wega's around at the moment except for giant 32 inch ones so i am settling for the sharp which will be more than adequate and at 90 lbs will be much more manageable for me.

I was wondering if anyone knew what was the best method to connect at this point? I have scart cables for every system i own, and would love to use them on the CRT if possible, but with no SCART input, a converter to maybe component would be the only way?

Would it make sense to just use S video and call it a day, or get some adapter to convert to component?

Thanks in adance everyone

  • Does the TV have a VGA input? If it does you might want to try SCART to VGA instead, I think the conversion is fairly straightforward.
  • SCART to component if the TV has those inputs. Makes all the difference.

Yup! It has component inputs. I just can't seem to find a good Scart to component adapter. And i am trying to figure out the logistics of having 5 SCART cables to plug in :/

I honestly think S video might be fine though on a CRT. S video through my xrgb mini looks pretty damm good, of course RGB is better. But on a CRT i believe the difference is slightlly less noticeable from S video to RGB.

    Thanks

  • Did you get your gscart switcher yet? Use a scart to component encoder.

I did not, but i believe it is being shipped over the weekend. I actually totally forgot i could probably use it for this purpose. I just would need some way to connect the Gscart to my CRT. I wonder if they make a Male Scart-Male Component wire?

  • No clue on the quality. Worth a shot for $6.

  • S-video looks surprisingly good on a CRT. I would try that first and see if you like it. Not sure about Sharp but on Sony's there is only a minor difference between S-video and Component. It's that good.

The gscart has a VGA out right? Can you get a VGA - component adapter?

A mere wire won't work. scart rgb is a different format than component, and cannot be carried using component cables.

    3 pins isn't enough for discrete red+green+blue+sync.
