the bicycle thread

I searched for a thread like this, but couldn't find one.  I know we have a thread for vehicles, but thought a bike one might be neat, as there are many different types of bikes out there.  So if you got one you enjoy riding, post it here!

I'll start.  I actually just won this bicycle at a halloween party this year, it was a raffle prize.  So since I basically paid $20 for it, I thought I'd jazz it up a bit.  $110can and a month wait, I got a new seat, handlebar grips and white wall tires from China.  I attached a before and after pic of the bike.  I'm happy with how it turned out, and its fun to ride.  It's a Nirve bicycle.

  • I have a Trek Domane. I only got it a few months ago, super fast, and a lot of fun to ride. I'm doing a 260K ride from Vancouver to Seattle next summer, so there will be some intense spring training coming up.

  • Looks much better. Going back to my childhood I always thought it was super fun and awesome to mod a bike. We have some K-Rad (not sure if that's the brand name or not) tires on order for my sons mountain bike. He just wanted something that would make it look cooler. But at the same time he managed to talk my mom into buying a new bike for Christmas. It's a Trek Marlin 5 in black and blue. This bike is pretty dang awesome. I'll post a pic when we pic it up.
  • My gf and I are giving each other bikes this year for X-mas. I want a mountain, she wants a hybrid. Any recomendations? Budget is 1k for each bike.

  • I picked up this bike in July of this year. It's a 2017 Trek Rememdy 8. I live in New Mexico and we have a ton of trails here, it's pretty nice! I have my regular stomping grounds that I ride and then every other week, I go up to Angel Fire Bike Park. This bike is very capable through rough and rowdy riding. I love it! Go outside and ride a bike!
  • My former Chinese language teacher gave me a bike. I am too lazy to take pics, especially since everyone else's bike puts that one to shame. In Taiwan, most companies will hold an end-of-the-meeting dinner for employees, and she and her husband (who worked the same place before retirement) each won a bike during the prize drawing, during two consecutive years. So the family ended up with two bikes, yet their children (aged 20 and 18 or something like that) and the parents all never had an interest in riding. So one of the bikes was basically forced on me, hehe, and it basically became mine. Biking is now my new hobby, and I want to upgrade and get a new bike sometime in the future, hope that when I go back for grad school, I can then also prepare and take a few weeks off to take a bike loop around Taiwan.

Last year I bought my girlfriend a bike for Christmas, and she bought me an electric guitar. It was a lot of fun, I really enjoyed riding in the evenings, though one of my favorite trips was when we spent the afternoon riding to a nearby town. Since our bikes weren't the highest quality, our brakes gave out when going down a mountain, and it was terrifying, yet thrilling at the same time. Riding through the rice fields and over the bridge across the large water bed was also a lot of fun.

Sadly due to jobs, we don't live together anymore, and thus both bikes just sit at my apartment. I usually ride to work everyday, but riding with my girlfriend is a lot more fun.

  • I'm going to play dumb just so I can post my bike:

    It's the Blue Falcon!

I've done a lot to it since that pic, like solo seat cowl, shorty black exhaust, swingarm license plate holder, blue pegs, blue chain, clip-on handlebars, ... and left it taken apart for an embarrassingly long time.

It was my only transportation for four years and now that I have a car I take way too long putting it back together.
  • This thread was made for Richardhead.

He's gotta post pics of his bike he wrecked earlier this year.

  • Don't have good picts of my other 2 bikes

Actually the white wall bicycle tires were the only thing that came from Canada.  I got them from Amazon.ca, but just checked Amazon.com and they have the same ones, for an even better deal:

For that price I definitely recommend them.  I have only rode mine once around the block so far, but I'm happy with the look/quality, especially for the price.

In that price range almost all bikes are the same.  Best to pick based on whatever bike stores are closest to you (and not toys r us).  Or come south to where I go     http://www.chainreaction.com

Hm, your bike looks a lot like the style of bikes my dad and brother ride. They are into long distance mountain biking and racing, and I know they've spent over $12k on a single bike before.
