I want picts! That is really impressive on a plain highway in an aerodynamically poor car. Wonder what the accuracy range of the system is.
Could have been a Cobra or Saleen or something that normally can do 150+ without mods.
Guessing the idiot kid put a nitro kit on it or something.
Definitely nitrous involved or like you said a cobra or saleen. A 2011 mustang GT could only reach 175 if you remove the govern on it and heavily modify the shit out of everything else and even then that is a stretch for that car. I can't see it hitting anywhere near 208mph unless it was having nitrous pumped into it, and even then that just doesn't sound right.
Wow, how the feck do you turn off your brake lights? Calling BS on the 208, 170's maybe down a hill with nitrous...
With a cut off switch. Really easy to setup. We used to that when we raced back in the day.
I also wouldn't be surprised at 200+ mph numbers. I've seen a few around here that can do that (at the track, that is), all with street legal stuff. This was about 10 years ago, and it was only 2 or 3 cars (a CRX, a miata, and an eagle talon/eclipse).
Man you would think at 208 the tires would melt. I think you can only hit that speed with special tires but for only around 8 seconds.
Supercars like the Veyron have super soft compound tires that will get very hot and will basically be trash after a 200mph run. But if you are not a responsible driver in the first place then diminished performance of the tire isn't something you are concerned with. If you are running a drag race type setup on your wheels and tires then you likely will have studs screwed in on the lip of the wheel into the bead of the tire that is pressed inside of the wheel. This will keep the wheel from spinning inside the tire. So basically yes it can be done. Not the same animal but there are dragsters that go over 330mph and tires fairly reliable under the extreme loads put on them hitting that speed in less than 4 seconds. So on a 1 or 2 mile run up to over 200 the tires will be stressed but the technology is out there to handle it.

Shame the kid didn't die in a fiery crash after being so incredibly stupid. Oh well, there's always next time.
Its never the driver its always someone undeserving.

Depends on the tire compound.
