Oh Musha, how I love thee.

So a buddy of mine dared me to hit his joint & play his repro cart of Musha. I don't smoke much at all, but I said what the hell, I'll do it for the "Moosh" haha.

Anyways, long story short, I played & holy mother of all goodness. The music is just..wow. I actually shed a tear on a few tracks. Dead serious. Made it too almost 6th level while everyone watched me zone out.

Know this a more Nintendo forum, & I could've tried Musha on an Emu, but I'm fairly old school, always lazy to boot it up, plus heard it was overated, but I beg to differ .. Yea so, if you've never played it...DO IT NOW. ...for all that have, what are your thoughts?

I agree with all you just said.  I just got a 14" Sony pvm so wanted to test my genesis rgb with it.  I threw in the everdrive and picked musha and this was really the first time I played this game.  The music on this game is amazing for a Genesis game.  I actually got pretty far in it.  That stage with the lightning effect was really awesome.  Right up there with Samson where an expensive game is actually a good game.

  • Definitely one of those heavy hitter titles that is NOT overrated.
  • I used to rent it as a kid back around when it came out. The parallax scrolling and graphical effects were very impressive for the time.

SNES Space Megaforce, another game in the Aleste series, is also very expensive now.

Gun-Nac on NES is pretty much the same thing as Space Megaforce.  Also really expensive but such a delight to play.

I have yet to play Musha.  I really should.

  • Let's face it, Compile knew what they were doing when it came to vertical shooters.

    You could say that again!

Musha is still one of my favorites. Love everything about it! Dont forget you can pause and press up to speed up your ship!

You mean overly long games with broken scoring systems?  Yes, they excel at making those.

MUSHA has some awesome audio/visual presentation but the game mechanics are not the best, even amongst other compile games.  The hit detection seems nearly random at times.  Requiring to pause the game in order to change your speed is also pretty silly.

I personally think Space Megaforce is far superior to MUSHA.

eehhhhhhh, maybe not always overated   but an awesome game nontheless.

Agreed that it's an excellent game with a killer soundtrack, but I disagree with your caveat "for a Genesis game." I think you just need to play some more Genesis games. There are a lot of classic soundtracks on the console.

I have played plenty of genesis games and the sound was never one of it's strong points in my opinion.  I know there are great soundtracks like Streets of Rage but there was also plenty of horrible sounding games.
