Yoshi's Wooly World: Any good?

This is getting ported to the 3DS soon, and I was wondering if those who played the WiiU version enjoyed it. How similar is it to Kirby's Epic Yarn, and how does it fare in comparison to other Yoshi/Mario platformers?

Comments

  • I really can't compare it to the ones you listed as I've never actually spent much time with them, but I have been enjoying YWW a ton.
  • I just picked it up the other day, so I can't say yet, but based on what I've seen in YouTube videos, it looks like it will be a lot of fun. I base this on the face that I'm a HUGE fan of the Yoshi's Island series and it seems like it will some at least somewhat similar to that.
  • It's a lot of fun, definitely recommend picking it up.
  • It's my favorite Wii U game and one of my favorite games of the last 10 years. It's incredibly fun and creative, and is the only Yoshi game that nearly matches the charm of the original Yoshi's Island. I really cannot recommend it enough. I absolutely adore Kirby's Epic Yarn but it's not even the yarn aspect of Woollly World that makes me love it so much, though it definitely helps. The gameplay is very much like Yoshi's Island. Like nearly identical in terms of level progression. So gameplay-wise it's not the same as Kirby's Epic Yarn, but it has the same "feel" of that game, an almost storybook-like aesthetic, that brings you back to chilhood. If you like 2D platformers at all, I honestly cannot give it a high enough recommendation. Really fantastic game in my opinion.
  • I played it for a bit and was really impressed with the graphics and creativity, but I just couldn't get into it. The pacing is a bit slow and the music is lack-luster. Disappointing, because I'm a huge fan of Yoshi's Island, one of my top favorites.
  • I don't have a WiiU, but I may pick up the 3DS port when it gets released. The graphics will be somewhat downgraded but the stages are all included, according to reports and it'll hopefully still preserve the same gameplay mechanics. I really like the little Wooly Yoshi amiibo.
  • Its a great game.
  • It's loads of fun, especially with a friend.
  • I never played kirbys, but I enjoyed it. Just a good, fun to play platformer. Its one of my top 5 games on the system.
  • It's great. The only thing it shares with Epic Yarn is it's art style. The gameplay is the best sequel to Yoshi's Island in my opinion.
  • I absolutely loved it. Yoshi's Island on the SNES is my favourite game of all time, and when playing this I felt like I was playing a worth sequel to it. There are so many nice touches that make it feel extra special. I definitely highly recommend it.
  • I really love this game. If you like yoshis island at all, then you'll have a great time with this. Perfect gameplay and level design, fun music, and has a great aesthetic. There is also a lot of replay value when you go back and try to 100% complete the game by fulfilling all requirements in each level. I 100% completed the game and had a blast with it. Please try it out it's a great game.
  • It's very kiddy but surprisingly a lot of fun. Our little 7yo girl loves it, and even Mom gets down on it a little bit. I'd recommend for sure, definitely has the charm of Yoshi's Island.

This is pretty much how I felt. It was a little too slow for me. I played it for a while, but lost interest. I think part of the reason I fell off the rails was because I was gonig 100% as I went along so each level was taking a ton of time (similar to Yoshi's Island). It just didn't compare to DK Tropical Freeze or NSMBU for me which have a faster pace.
  • Very fun game!! Cool it's being ported to the 3ds also as I might get it as well.
  • Loved it, I'm just guessing but I probably put 10-15 hours into it. I 100%'d the entire game.
  • It's alot of fun. Personally I prefer epic yarn or Kirby return to dream land
  • My son didn't really get into it (he's 8).
  • Its my favorite game on the Wii U. Its PERFECT
  • Very good. Its a great looking game. On easy mode its kinda relaxing to play, the co-op is very good too.
  • The wife and I loved it, it's simple enough to pick up and make progress through sporadically if you don't have a big schedule for gaming. If you enjoy the Mario platformers on Wii/Wii U with the secret coins and all, it's in the same vein.
  • It is an incredible game
  • It's a must have on the Wii U; game is fun, looks incredible.

So if the port to the 3DS is decent, it's probably worth it.
  • Hell yeah!

Ahem, I think it is one of the best yoshi games since the original Yoshi's Island. The game controls great, the music is fantastic, and the visuals are fantastic.
